Season 2011-12

Are we special?

In the increasingly likely scenario that we see no new arrivals this window, would that be a first for a Premier League club?

Does anyone know whether any other club has gone a whole summer window without a single addition to the first team squad?

How about this: Everton become the first team to achieve a top six place using no new players?

Yeah right.

Top 6 - are you havin' a laugh.....?!?!?!

We're goin' backwards mate and 8th would be considered a success this year.

Mind you, we could be spending £100 like that shower of twats, on average players then think we're guynna win the league (AGAIN....!!!!!!!!).

So, as usual, things could always be worse.

I want us to win the league, of course, but what I THINK will happen is different.

I see yet another poor start to the season

A decent string of wins around Christmas

A mid table finish.

For further info, see last season... Oh and the one before that... And before that.... Etc etc.

A point against spurs, 3 each from QPR, Blackburn, Villa, Wigan and our usual 3 at the council stadium in Manchester, top of the league by the end of September, easy peasy !

On the other (more realistic) hand:

Nowt at the Yids; 3 against QPR, then fuck all vs B'burn and Villa.

We'll not beat City this year at their place bud. Although I agree our recent record there is good.

Lets just hope we get 40 pts before the end of March eh.......?!?!?!?!

Some outlook at. Every season I find myself lookin' at the run-in and thinking, oh shit.....!!!!!!!!!! Ha ha ha.

Fuck it.

Desperate for 1st team football, willing to travel anywhere (suggesting wages are not an issue).

He is out of form at the moment but is a proven Premier League goalscorer .....Is Robbie Keane worth a punt?

I have just seen that Strasbourg have to release all their players. Now if they can be got on a free then why can Davey go and get a few good youngsters like Magaye?? Wigan are sniffing around as well and they have been linked to some good prospects.

I have so much to do at work and count myself fortunate to be in employment in these dark times but I thought I would contribute a brief piece around the lack of transfer activity and lack of any communications coming out of Everton FC.

I regularly read Toffeeweb and like most of you scan the articles to escape work, the wife and kids and get a bit of a footballing ?fix? during the close season. Having read all the articles and comments with interest I thought I would cover another ?what if? scenario.

We have already had contributors writing about ?what if we had to sell a player, who would it be?? And ?what if we had won the £161m Euro-millions how would we invest the cash into Everton??

I thought about a couple of what if scenarios but they bordered on Football Manager type situations whereby Everton was bought out by a billionaire and Moyes was given £50m-£100m to start buying, who would he buy and why? But then I thought, no we could actually use a more realistic scenario and say what if Moyes does sell a player in the next couple of weeks and what would he do with the proceeds now just about every realistic target has been bought.

Like others, I stupidly believed N?Zogbia was holding out for a move to Everton and didn?t understand why the transfer was taking so long to be finalised at Villa. However, another Toffeewebber had written that he bumped into Moyes at the beginning of the close season and asked him who we would be signing of which the response was something akin to ?there are no funds?? I should have known better and kept the glimmer of hope in my pocket.

I noted a couple of Everton supporters having an exchange on another forum and one of them stated, Everton have access to funds. If they needed the funds, they could get £10m within a matter of hours. Considering the N?Zogbia transfer, I highly doubt that to be the case.

So, what if Moyes does sell a prized asset? The sale of Jags, Rodwell or Fellini would raise £15m at least. As this is a hypothetical, yet realistic possibility, £15m is the figure Moyes has to work with, and in this scenario, Blue Bill has given Moyes his full permission to invest all the £15m to strengthen the squad. Who does Moyes buy?

Personally, I thought there were some good free transfers out there to freshen up the squad. Whether Everton approached them we will never know unless the player(s) reveal this in later interviews? but I thought Upson was a good solid like-for-like replacement for Distin or Jags should Jags be sold. Upson could also act as cover to Baines who heaven forbid, I pray does not get injured this season, or worse, sold.

Big John Carew would also have been a great signing and magnificent foil for Becks and let?s face it, Victor should not be playing for Everton up front or down either wing. I truly do hope the rumour he?s off to Leicester comes through. Maybe, Moyes has come around to Yakubu staying. Yobo has apparently cleared out his locker and left the Club. Was Yobo a disruptive influence on the Yak or did the Club need to remove Yobo from the wage bill ASAP? Whether Moyes intends on using the Yak for the forth-coming season will be interesting as another Toffeewebber quite rightly pointed out that the Yak had disrespected this Club and its Fans by turning out for the pre-season friendlies looking larger than the counter-lady at a Greggs bakery.

Anyway, I am rambling. Would the £15m be spent on a like-for-like replacement? Would Moyes invest in several positions such as real wingers we so desperately need. I hear Shaun Wright Phillips is up for grabs but his wages would probably be too high. Which brings me onto another point, even if Moyes could spend the £15m, who would actually come and play for Everton and who fits into the Moyes?s? ?type? of player?

From a striker?s perspective, most of Moyes?s striker transfers have not performed although this could be down to tactics, injuries, niggles, lack of service or all the above, with the exception of Yakubu where he scored well in his debut season. Becks needs to be given a sustained chance for us to measure his real performance at Premiership level and Saha needs to stay fit which isn?t going to happen. And I hope Victor stays on the bench or is sold prior to the transfer deadline.

Reading the papers this morning and seeing that Obertan had moved to Newcastle for £3m made me weep yet again. I think he has real potential as a tricky winger and glides like Thierry Henry. Granted, he never excelled at ManU but he was never given a long or consecutive run-out to really develop. I think for £3m it?s an absolute bargain for a pacey winger who has a point to prove.

As we have so many central midfielders at the Club, if we had to sell I would prefer it to be Fellini or Rodwell (Fellini out of the two) and I would not look to buy on a like-for-like basis but look to get in a wide-man or striker or both if possible.

So, with three weeks before the transfer window shuts and most other clubs having bought swiftly, who would you bring into the squad with £15m? Your targets have to realistically want to come and play for Everton.
