Season 2011-12
The Mail Bag

Just a thought

 26 Comments: First  |  Last

Whilst watching those last 20 sobering minutes of the Villarreal game from my Upper Bullens vantage point, a thought occurred to me:

Perhaps Moyes was playing the right-sided axis of nightmares (Hibbert, with Neville on the wing in front of him) along with the comical sight of Yakubu lumbering along on the left wing ON PURPOSE as a message to the chairman sat in the comfy seats.

The message is, "Look what I have got to work with! This is the reality of our season ahead if you don't find me some dosh! Act now!"

We can only hope so.

Think about it. What other reason to play such a formation against the ticky tacky kind of football that would show it up the most? What other reason to leave Bily on the bench and play Yakubu?

As the recurring dream-nightmare that is our Evertonian Summer draws nearer to the opening whistle of the new campaign, perhaps Davie is sending Bill a message.

Nah Tim, there has been too many times Moyes has had me scratching my head. Rodwell on the wing against Villa springs to mind.

Maybe he was hiding from watching hawwy redknapp....keeping our secret Gueye under wraps. He's scored more pre-season goals than anyone, how come not even on the bench vs Villarreal?

I suspect Moyes gets drunk before the game.

Sure Gueye was sat in the Park end with a couple of his mates. Either that or a dead ringer.

Moyes has only got himself to blame when it comes to the lack of pace in our team. He's had money to spend in the last couple of seasons and spent around 25 million on two of the slowest players going in Bily and Fellaini. And then the likes of Anichebe are playing in midfield ahead of Bily! What are really bad signing, complete waste of money!

It could be worse.. we could be linked with Peter Crouch...

Cant wait to see Jags punting everything up to Crouchy playing up front on his own !!
The thought of Crouch actually flicking on balls to the quick Beckford surely hasnt even entered Moyses' mind..

John Carew went on a free yesterday... would have been ideal.

Wishful thinking.

I second that about carew. carew/beckford would have been an interesting combo.

Have been trying to get the Crouch link out of my mind all day.

If this deal was being mooted, I would ask for Defoe and Kranjcar.

Guys have just posted on another thread about Gueye, he was forced to hobble around the outside of the ground with his foot encased in a protective boot to take up a seat in the Park End. I don't know how bad it was but I don't think he'll be fit for a while.

Tim, believe me I understand the need to clutch at straws, but in answer to your questions..

"What other reason to play such a formation against the ticky tacky kind of football that would show it up the most? What other reason to leave Bily on the bench and play Yakubu?"

..I'm afraid far more likely answers would be stupidity and lack of imagination.

Tim, in one of those 'clutching at straws' type of moments I have similar thoughts about Anichebe: "Bill, this is Dave calling with the message: if you don't give me any money, this is the shite you'll have to watch.

David (16) think you're underestimating Bill's resolve.

I honestly don't think watching Anichibe plodding along, falling over and banging the deck for a season is enough of a threat.

Horrible for the rest of us but don't forget, Mr Darling regularly has to watch his missus act.

(and I've no doubt after gives it - "Darling you were wooooonderful, a sensation...REALLY!!")

Also, imagine the mental strength it would take, to erase Michael Winner's leering fat sweaty face from Bill's head, each time he and his good lady are 'intimate'.

He must have a will of iron and by comparison, I'm sure his response would be 'Anichibe schmanichibe - bring it on!'

"What other reason to leave Bily on the bench and play Yakubu?"

Might have been because Bily is suspended for the start of the season and it would be better giving game time to someone who isn't.....

There is an easier way to send a message to Bill via a press conference or a resignation.

Mike no.14. Villareal played first team v Everton and young lads v Wigan. Therefore, hardly conclusive proof things are falling apart tho no doubt we'll have that soon enough.

So what did the protest banners say at the match?

Comments on the "Peoples Group" webpage asking for photos or text of the banners just keeps getting deleted yet THEY complain of a fascist dictatorship and censorship by the board????

Why is it a secret? Why don't they want to publicise it???

Everton is a fascist dictatorship you can opt out of. Premiership football is a completely degraded product unless you are a United or City fan. Even Chelski fans must be very unhappy having to put up with Cole, Terry etc, never out of the papers but hardly ever for footballing reasons. I think most Everton addicts are going to begin to take a reality check in the coming months. I can see interest really dropping off unless we have some seriously good results on the pitch and it isn't looking good on that front. I am a romantic and I'd like to believe that football clubs belong to the fans but the disdain with which all Blues have been treated these past six transfer windows by the Club with its ultra defensive silence and flagrant misinformation, p*** poor communications has just left me absolutely numb. Blue Bill is reaching Ken Bates proportions as a soccer nemesis and Moyes much as I have defended him is becoming increasingly intransigent and cantankerous as he struggles to shuffle the same deck time and time again. I'm not quite sure why he doesn't resign, he wouldn't be without a job in football for very long. Fans all over the country think he is a miracle worker.

Eric, pictures of the banners are up on E4C and TPG's facebook pages. There's a lot of photos up on twitter as well so I don't think there's a conspiracy going on.

One banner said "Philip Green is no friend of ours". I couldn't make out what it said on the one with Moyes' face on it

I don't do farcebook and I'm not a twit so it's not surprising they only have 3,000 signed up if they're alienating a vast majority of fans?

Looks like another possible target, Shane Long, is going to West Brom..

If we can't offer more to a player than West Brom we may as well pack this in.
