Something doesn't add up

 40 Comments: First  |  Last

Today I emailed Graham Sharp to ask him why David Moyes has stopped doing aftermatch interviews and why he has stopped talking to the fans. Well, Ian Ross, Communications Director, came back with the following e.mail:

'Afternoon Steve,

Well, David hasn't been gagged by the Chairman - or by anyone else.
As ever, he is free to say whatever he wants - whenever he wants.
Regards,
Ian

Name: Ian Ross
Position: Communications Director
Address: Goodison Park, L4 4EL

While not exactly answering the question, it seems as if he is avoiding it by answering a different one...

Some will say that is all he has to say, but personally I think there is quite a lot he is not telling us. At least he has to talk to the MotD interviewer next Saturday after the QPR game... doesn't he??

Steve,
I don't think Moyes HAS to answer the BBC.s questions, Ferguson hasn't spoken to the BBC for months which is why his puppet Phelan does all the post match interviews.

It is not just Moyes. Something is wrong top to bottom ? I just want to know how fucked we are? Are we the next Portsmouth?

Yes, I agree.

It definitely shows Jagielka & Baines are on their way, that several takeovers have been rejected, and that it was actually Bill Kenwright that shot JFK.

Strange that the reply came from somebody employed to deal specifically with communications? Yeah, a real head melter, that one.

I would have expected Sharpy to be sitting by his laptop waiting to write back to fan requests. I bet Bobby Charlton does that at Man U. No wonder the club is a mess.

I was equally frustrated and dismayed by the Ask Sharpie option. Years ago when Jeffers and Rooney first played together for England, all I asked was how the Jeffers cap affected the price Arsenal were paying EFC. Got a totally meaningless none answer from the guru. Very dismissive and negated the point of the "ask Graeme anything" platform.

Just wanted to clarify a few things here.

1. Ferguson hasn't spoken to the press in years, not months.

2. Ian Ross is the main focal point at the club in terms of what is said, and by whom.

He also randomly rings fans up, as he did with me. Can't repeat what he said to me though. Well not again anyway.

I think Steves point is that his original question wasn't addressed rather than the fact that possibly the right person addressed it. Saying that David Moyes hasn't been gagged by the Chairman doesn't explain his apparent interview blackout.

I totally respect Moyes for his silent protest, he's principled and would rather say nothing than to actually speak his mind and it to be counterproductive.

You know he shares our frustration and the acid test will be if we put in a performance on Saturday and he does a Fergie.

Hopefully we do here from him but I'd put money on there wouldn't be any mention of transfers.

I asked Sharpie a question ages ago and after a long wait got a meaningless answer but at least it came from Sharpie and not BK's Joseph Geobbels.

Without seeing the original question and if it referred to being gagged its hard to say where that came from without prompting.

I'm pretty sure old whiskey nose had to pay a fine because he refused to give after game interviews - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/8935149.stm

I believe Moyes is a man of principle.
If he has a problem with how the club is being run he has two options. Firstly, he can call it as he sees it, that other forces are now dictating the club's finances in an effort to recoup their investment. Secondly, he can play dumb, focus on football matters and leave the politics to others. What he cannot do is come out with the usual Kenwright supportive words if he has now lost faith in the man.
That is the position I believe Moyes is now in.
His relationship with the players and fans could only be compromised by him getting in front of the media and supporting the Board so he has chosen to stay out of it.
He's still the best thing the whole tottering structure has going for it.

David Moyes...Zen and the art of Football Management.

We are totally deafened by, not the sound of one hand clapping, but the worse sound of One Football Club Failing.

The Blue Union guys 'were' outside the tent pissing in.

Again with the sound of silence, it could be construed that they are now on the inside, holding their water.

Was what they were told that bad!!

Its all part of an information black out when only liars and others that can obfuscate are allowed to speak out. Moyes is not that kind of man so he darn't say anything.
I have a feeling that something extraordinary is in the wind and we will find out what it is after it happens.
One thing for sure is after the Kirkby vote debacle do not expect the board to ask fans to have any kind of say about future directions.

Brenden # how long does it take to ...get their story straight, or as you put it there statement.

These things are usually done on the steps right after the event.

' We have had a full and frank exchange of views and we feel... blah blah blah ..all the usual guff '

In the absence of ANY statement, even a 'no comment', ' we cannot commement at this time due to commercial sensitivity'... ' we never comment on operational matters with regards to the security services / sas or who ever...we will put the offer to the membership.

Nothing, nada, sweet fanny fuck,

WHY?... HOW MANY DAYS IS IT??

I am left with...can't speak, told / asked / begged not to or dare not speak or the house of cards will come tumbling down around their and our ears if this gets out before the Sky money gets in.

Do not pass go, collect ten point deficit, enter administration. We can't even buy the footballing equivalent of Old Kent Road.

What an odd post. Why has Moyes stopped doing aftermatch interviews?

Well the most likely answer is that Everton haven't played any matches yet.

Surely your not talking about the worthless preseason friendlies? Frankly I am happy our manager has better things to do then comment on those.

The first match of the season is against QPR and I fully expect Moyes to make a post match interview as normal.

What a silly post this is.

I can understand peoples' frustrations, but like others I think that in this case silence does speak louder than words.

Moyes is likely to be as pissed off as we are at the financial constraints. But as has been pointed out occasionally on other threads the consequence of making that known publicly will be a slew of Everton in crisis and splits in the camp stories. There can only be one outcome of that - further loss of team confidence and even greater likelihood of a poor start to the season. Whatever criticisms I have of his tactics, I trust Moyes to act in the club's best interest. THe lid may well blow, but not yet.

"Brendan # how long does it take to"...I'm assuming you were replying to my comment #14.
"Their story straight" I see you've already made your mind up that Blue Union are throwing their lot in with Blue Bill.
"Even a no comment"...Did Blue Union not come out & say the meeting had taken place and that they would issue their take on it as soon as they could.?
Yes Derek we can't even buy the footballing equivalent of the Old Kent Road but isn't it typical that when a bunch of supporters try to find out why this is...the naysayers & begrudgers suddenly find themselves aroused into "action"!!

Shit myself when I read the post, thought I had missed the start of our season. It actually turns out that we haven't had our first match yet. Hard to do after match interviews when you haven't played.

Didin't realise that the BBC/SKY etc were covering all our friendlies

Not saying this is anything to do with it but, with the arse selling Fabregas and the sale of Nasri imminent, a one goal lead to defend in Italy I reckon it's a matter of days till we say bye bye Jags.

Money for a striker? Or will it be 80% off our debts? Could it be that this is the reason for the silence?

Sharp , or "SHARPIE" as he likes to be called, is a knob. He was waffling on to a mate of mine a few weeks ago and convinced my star struck friend that Baines, Rodwell and Fellaini were all Man City bound for £100M... Yes, I laughed my balls off too. He is a club yes-man who knows fuck all about what goes on.

Sorry I rarely post, but this one has driven me to despair, inane, dull and looking for things from an ever so negative angle. Come on get behind the boys, I know everyone's concern reflects how much we love the club. If Moyes was interviewed in what way would it ally and reduce your m We are potless, but have 10 or so excellent players, a good manager and great supporters. At least with Kenwright at the helm we will not go the way of Portsmouth, Birmingham, West. Ham or where Blackburn are heading.

Brenden; full credit to Blue Union. Don't worry if I lived near to BK and could get to see him I would, but I don't , they do and did.

So wtf happened.............cue tumbleweed.

Thats the whole point. On posts all over this site we are getting a common point....Silence.

Is no news good news...we don't know.

you see it in the stock market, uncertainty leads to short selling leads to etc.

I want to know, do I need to know, well maybe not, it's their Club, but we know that is just a legal thing, In effect it belongs to all of us.

Not knowing is the worst, just where, or in our case where not we are.

As another poster stated I wish the games would start then we can talk about something else.

But the problems behind the silence will not go away when the whistle blows
