Kenwright, Money & Moyes
29 Comments: First | Last
Most of Bill Kenwright?s press releases over the last few years have seen him look like a broken man. A familiar sight it has been of him looking up to the heavens with tears in his eyes, almost hoping for some divine inspiration when he declares ?I?m actively looking for new investment.?
I didn?t have a problem with this as such because he always seemed genuine and his love for the club is irrefutable, but only recently has he been saying that he wants a ?buyer? for the club. So with a debt of approximately £50m (as reported), a stadium in need of repair or a new stadium, season ticket sales that go directly to a bank to pay off loans, gate receipts being used to pay wages, and then the price of buying the club (whatever it is) - my question is: ?Why would somebody buy the club, clear a debt and then throw money at Moyes??
Don?t get me wrong: I?m not on the Bill Kenwright hating bandwagon, nor am I a lover of the man?s tactics, but I am a realist. Unfortunately I think Bill has made some bad decisions when it comes to running the club, but I think he?s also made decisions that have kept us above the parapet; just like when everybody went mental when Rooney was sold until the reasons came out as to why he was sold. The next season we finished 4th!!
So my point is instead of going over the same old gripes and moans I?ve decided to keep on going the match and supporting the team because this is still the squad (minus Pienaar) that we all had high hopes for last year and really the backroom/boardroom stuff hasn?t changed all that much at all. Moyes still doesn?t have any money and still gets the players to give that bit extra most of the time so all I?ve got left is...

Did anyone hear the caller on TalkSport this morning saying the sixth richest man in the world looked at us but for some reason didn't buy us?
Does anyone know anything more on it as I've never heard that before?
You cannot be faulted for your faith (more than myself). I just think it isn't unrealistic of fans to expect more. Moyes is the ideal manager for Kenwright's style of Chairmanship. He puts up and shuts up with his lot, BK probably hoped we'd won something by now or got into the Champion's League proper. This would have eased the pressure which has now grown into a monster problem of debt, no signings, being overtaken by other clubs and a manager who is stale in outlook and tactics.
I hate to be Mr. Doom and Gloom but how will Everton supporters react if we lose today? If we do lose today then Blackburn away on Saturday will probably be the biggest test Moye's has had up to now.
Why would anyone throw money at the club??? to achieve what Man City are on the brink of achieving perhaps. buying everton for a man of relatively modest means is not going a plausable solution, we need a mega rich buyer - simples
When you listen to B.K's interview on Sky, I had tears in my eyes.
One minute he said the banks are ready to call in all their loans - the next sentence thay are looking at six sites for a new stadium.
Great actor, deserves an Oscar.
Everyone including our manager thought our squad could challenge for the top four last season and minus Pienaar but with the addition of Coleman and Barkley we were told before the start of the season by certain people to cheer up and yet as soon as that debacle finished on Saturday it was not a good enough squad and money was to blame and not one bit a stick for the big problem.......negative tactics.
If our star players are not match fit then the only way to get them match fit is to play games, start them and take them off when they have done damage, not bring them on when the damage is done like last Saturday.
What I dont understand is why the banks are supposed to be able to dictate what the club do with any transfer income? Surely we have taken out these loans with agreed repayments, and as far as I am aware, we have not defaulted on any, so why this supposed change in the conditions? When someone other than the men in charge of the company are deciding what to do with the cash, then that is administrantion isn't it? Everton are not in administration. No company would take large loans out with a bank if sais bank could just 'call it in' at any time would they?
As far as I can recall the moment BK took over he has always accepted he didnt have the money to really take Everton forward. To that end since day one his primary aim or objective was to come up with some investment. What have we had to date? NOTHING!
He has failed in his one major task that he has had 10 years to complete. That, for me, is totally unacceptable.
Now finding ourselves in a position where we cannot push on because we do not have a pot to piss in can only be the fault of BK and for that I find myself becoming increasingly more angry at this Thespian tosser we have the misfortune to call our chairman.
Chris morris - billy liar is in the acting business and is well able to look heavenwards with tears in his eyes to hopefully give the impression that he gives a damn about Everton. He is a tremendous liability to this club having brought us to the brink of financial disaster. I have supported Everton now for over 50 years and have never seen anything like this situation. Kenwright must go and very soon if this club is going to survive. Running a club of evertons size is way over his head and the longer he stays the worse we are going to get. Why cant he tell us the truth and why didnt he over the sale of rooney, over Kings dock, over the Fortess fund and over Kirkby. He is a toss pot and will not be missed by a single Evertonian when he has gone.
And surely you didnt believe that crap about us being good enough to finish 4th last season - just spin produced by the club. And this season the ageing players are a year older and didnt it show on saturday.
Dan - surely you are not niave enough to ask "how are the banks able to dicatate transfer policy" ??? if you were owed £45 million would you let the debtor go out and spend some more when they came into a bit of money or would you want paying back?
also most people/companies who borrow from banks do so against assets held. as we have no assets the banks have less security for the money lent and we have borrowed off the back of sky money for the last few years and the banks are fed up with this and want us to reduce thier exposure to risk
On the chairman, didn't Bill Kenwright do a refinancing deal with the banks a couple of years ago telling us we were in great shape. On the manager David Moyes, 9 years plus and the jury's still out. He needs to do one of two things get rid of his backroom staff [its all gone stale] and bring in a top european coach with fresh ideas or go! How about Duncan Ferguson! he's been doing his coaching badges and has been coming to Goodison recently .
Andy (2) - i was thinking exactly the same today.
Did you see Warnocks response to being knocked out of the cup last night. What a prick.
Paul (11)- Bring in a top european coach with fresh ideas & then you mention dunc? I agree though. if Moyes is going to stay he needs to re-shape the back room. Defensive minded coaches need to go.
Big Dunc, Everton Manager,
There'd be more than a few teacups thrown in the dressing room for some of our under performing tossers.
Interesting to see how hard Heitinga thinks he is.
I actually think, though I realise I may not be in the majority, that Everton could be a fantastic buy for the right owners.
In the last accounts, we roughly broke even. Our revenue was £80 million, and our costs were roughly £80 million.
Well, if new owners came in and cleared the debt (£45 million-ish), that would free up £4.5 million a season in interest payments alone. Could they run us better than the current administration? Well, you would like to think so! Getting the catering and retail operations back in house should also generate some profit, and I think they would have to address our business model also ? we cannot continue spending 71% of our income on the wage bill.
But all things considered, I think we could be brought back in line as a profit-making business. All would depend on how much Kenwright wants ? and unfortunately no-one has determined this yet, not even the Blue Union.
If Kenwright is looking for £100 million, then forget everything I have just said. But if he simply wants his money back, say £20-30 million, and the new owners could give Moyes £20-30 million also, as well as clearing the debt, then for around £100 million you could buy a club who would be knocking right on the door of the top 4. And I don't think there are too many clubs out there that you could buy and hope to get in the Champions League places for an expenditure of £100 million.
The main obstacle long term is obviously the stadium, but I am sure if we were tidied up as a business in the short term, and possibly look at adding a 2nd tier to the Park End to increase our matchday revenue, things would look a lot brighter immediately.
Everton FC is not a bad investment compared with say Man City (circa 2009). As the usual response from Kenwright apologists is nobody wants to buy us because we need a new ground.
Yet if you are willing to spend £400M on a club. Then does it matter if you spend all that on players or spend 50/50 on players and a new stadium?
Either way you'll end up with a shit hot squad of players and a 5* stadium.
Of course its unrealistic to expect a billionaire owner at all. But it's a myth (largely fuelled by our incompetent board) that EFC is a repulsive proposition. The 4th most successul club with a large fanbase. Held back by sloppy business practices and years of neglect.
For EFC we need a willing seller, before we worry about a willing buyer.
I would think the best BK is hoping for is to get his money back for the shares he purchased and to be released from any `joint and severals` he may be party to in respect of loans. He would be optimistic in the extreme ? and somthing of a hypocrite ? to expect to turn a profit in the present circumstances. Having said that, I share the view that the likelihood of anyone wishing to relieve him of his burden is remote although I still believe the man`s a hero for holding it together for so long!
I see Moyes is doing his best to talk Sheffield Utd up to be world beaters http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/everton-fc/everton-fc-news/2011/08/24/everton-fc-manager-david-moyes-in-sheffield-united-warning-ahead-of-carling-cup-clash-100252-29291675/ sooner this man is gone the better, lets hope he trys to play them off the park, but more than likely we'll play defensive trying to not concede and maybe nick a lucky goal, god how this team is depressing
Richard
BK is hoping for a massive profit from his shares hence the repulsivness of his favourite line "I don't take a wage from the club". It won't matter if he has taken a wage if he walks away with a £60 mill plus profit will it!!
We are main topic on TalkSport drive now guys....
Grant, to be honest I dont think I am being naive. If I took out a loan, and was making the agreed repayments on time, then I dont think it is any of the banks business if I get a windfall. So if I then got a bonus from work, they could just decide they want it? What if I was lucky on a horse? Should I declare it and ask them if they would like any? All I was saying is that my experience of loans usually involves agreed repayments until the end of the loan period.
Just listening James, that fucking Adrian Durham is tit.
Sorry, that should have been "is a tit".
About time Talksport mentioned somebody else than a London club.
Dan @ 20.
My understanding is we've got long term secured debt that we make payments to, but what the banks want is for us to reduce the overdraft facility, which as some of us may well know is happening a lot in the personal finance sector (*cough* n*t-shithouse-west, in my case*cough*)
That idiot Durham said we are like a 'big Wigan.'
What a tool. He reckons we wouldn't fill a 50,000 stadium if we had investment and better players and that there is nowhere to pick up new fans from!
Thankfully Goughie is backing us up and sees us getting snapped up some time soon. I hope so.
"I?ve decided to keep on going the match and supporting the team because this is still the squad (minus Pienaar) that we all had high hopes for last year and really the backroom/boardroom stuff hasn?t changed all that much at all.".......thats what we are all pissed off about!!!
I was just sat thinking that in terms of the pressure getting to Bill and him selling sooner rather than later... a defeat to Sheff Utd tonight would help that no end. And for a couple of minutes I entertained that losing tonight might not be so bad...
But then I remembered that I have us to win the League Cup in an end of season accumulator where 13p will win me £500,000.
So come on fellers, for tonight let's forget all that's happened over the last few weeks/months/years and get behind me. Sorry, I mean the *team*.
