Season 2011-12

A road to the promised land?

 17 Comments: First  |  Last

Regardless of the result tonight, important decisions have to be made quickly to save this club. I believe we should sell players and raise £45million to clear the majority of debt along with a public statement from the 'board' offering the club for sale. Cut the remaining players & manager's wages, offer half price season tickets NOW to fill the stadium for every game.

The purpose of all this, to make everyone responsible for their failures, board, manager and players and supporters.

Board: To advertise the club's intentions and what they want from a prospective buyer.

Manager & players: Stop all bonuses, play for your overly inflated and frankly disgusting wages.

Supporters: If the tickets are half price there is no excuse for not attending, if the above happens there's no excuse to stay away, we constantly harp on about being the biggest club on Merseyside and the most loyal.. so prove it!!

Follow my plan and it'll lead you to the promised land!! (or maybe not).. Now then girls n boys, be gentle with me and don't expect a reply tonight from me as I'm off to the game (who signed me up to the autocup scheme?).. ;-)

I agree completely. I despise the people who have got us into this situation. But if we need to placate the banks then so be it. Sell Jags and Cahill for the reported £25 mill on offer and give it to the banks. Then we try and make sure that the current clowns go. The only problem is with those two gone I feel we'd win more games, and that would only serve to let bill off the hook again.

Yep I agree, unfortunately we are probably going to have to go backwards to come forwards again.

It's only Moyes stubbornness keeping Jagielka at Everton.

Every other manager would sell in a heartbeat knowing a younger player of similar standard wouldn't be too hard to find or that it would put their club in a much better position financially. Moyes idiotic pride means we will son be the over the hill mob!

"..offer half price season tickets NOW to fill the stadium for every game."

I don't think that would go down too well with those of us who shelled out full price for our season tickets months ago though would it? One game in and the club turns round and says 'fuck you sucker'? They'd never be able to rely on 'early-bird' season ticket sales ever again.

Tommy, a sale to the extent that you advocate will see us relegated. Yes we must sell, but we must leave enough to keep us safe. We will tread water till we get a buyer or until the finanaces of others implode .dragging them back to us.

I don't think we will be weakend by the sale of Cahill and Jags. For starters, it means we could actually be forced two start with two up front, and there is plenty of cover at center back.

It would be all our Xmases at once to get £25 mil + for those two.

If you pay back loans / mortgages etc early your have to pay the early repayment charge? I wonder how much that would be.

Half price season tickets - see John 4 - I'd be pissed if I didn't get it my half stumped up.

Agreed.

The only players I would not sell are Baines and Barkley. Everyone else I would sell for decent money. All of them are replaceable

My worry about selling our most valuable players would be, if the current board stay in control that they would rack up more debts with new loans/mortgages to pay off 'operating costs' and the like.

As Moyes has said he believes we will struggle to finish in the top ten, I personally think losing three or four players we would still not be relegated. Sacrificing our better players and clearing the debt somewhat would ease the pressure on the club and fans, and hopefully make us a more attractive prospect to potential buyers.

I don't know what is for the best. So much uncertaincy around the club.

All player's have a price and can be replaced.
Us fans get involved with our hearts not our heads.
There are thousands of good skilled footballers.
We all just buy in to the knee jerk quick fix's the press sell.
The club needs to be run for profit.
That's my belief.

Players can't be replaced if you've no money to buy the new players with. Moyes is being stubborn because he won't get that money from any sales.

I don't think anyone should be sold. Kenwright shouldn't be given any more breathing space. If we're heading towards oblivion that's the only way we'll get rid of black Bill.

Here's a novel idead: Don't sell our best players, concentrate on winning football matches, sell a few fringe players and give that money to the bank.

Long term it's not really a solution, we need a take over by someone with greater resources and more importantly a greater vision. But short term it's what is best for the club.

A few weeks back I would have said, no to selling any of our top assets. But if we were to get £16m minimum for Jags, I would sell him and replace with Scott Dann at half the price. Rest of the money to go to the bank. Get rid of Yak (if we can) and finally Yobo and use the cash to pay Chelsea the reported £3m loan fee for Sturridge.
I doubt we would get anywhere near £11m for Cahill (he's the wrong side of 30 don't forget and his impact seems to be dwindling by the week), I reckon no more than £6m. Would be sad to see him go but I suppose that £6m could go to the banks too to ease the pressure.
Would be tempted to get £20m for Felli (he could be replaced at half the price, let's face it) if we could, though I can't see that one happening this year...

Tommy,

One of your suggestions would mean the club more or less telling the hardcore fans who bought season tickets that they paid approx £250.00 for their ticket against QPR.

Apparently the new QPR Chairmen Fernandez is offering all QPR season ticket holder a significant refund and heavily reducing entry prices for non-season ticket holders.

But selling players to the value of £45m to clear the debt, telling everyone to make sure the ground is full every match, and stopping bonuses of overpaid mercaneries is just over idealistic!

Do we get the extra 50% that we paid back then?
