Ross Barkley

 35 Comments: First  |  Last

With the sales of many young players fresh in the memory, I think it is absolutely vital that Everton as a whole make Ross Barkley feel appreciated, wanted, and needed here at GP in the coming season.

Already, Moyes has pointed to errors he has made and I just hope that Moyes himself has learned from the Rooney situation. Barkley has talent, that much is obvious, and the board must be licking their lips in anticipation!

We cannot take for granted that we will continue to produce such talent from within, and must do all we can to make Barkley feel a Goodision hero. I implore all Everton fans who go to matches to really make Barkley feel part of things. Because he IS one of our own and deserves to be a fans favourite. We can already see how eager he is to help us win games and to try and get on the scoresheet.

My concern, though, lies with Moyes and the board in terms of lowly contract offers and kind of not appreciating what we've got. I just hope Moyes can establish a real working relationship with a lad whose talent he recognises, but whose value to us in terms of a potential sale I'm sure he does also.

Evertonians were sick to lose Rooney, and we would be equally as sick to see Barkley go if he has a similar start to his career whereby he forces himself into England squads and the like. Please Moyes and the board, don't screw this one up.

Barkley will leave. That's inevitable unless we get a rich owner in. But he wont leave until Moyes or BK know they can get a big offer for him like with Rooney. We will probably have 3-4 years from him so lets enjoy the talent we have now. I think he is definitely appreciated - Cahill and Neville looked after him in America and have nice banter on twitter with him, as does Saha. I also think Moyes is right to give him some negative criticism if it helps him improve- he did it with Coleman and he looks better for it. I think we should all be excited by this lad, he is going to be a SUPERSTAR, hopefully at us for many years - if not he will make the club(ok Barclays Bank) a lot of money.

As long as Moyes plays him in his correct position and doesn't waste his talents like he has done with Rodwell. Rodwell has gone backwards in his development at Everton and I am beginning to feel that we SHOULD cash in these players for their own sake, before our laughable coaching methods really screw them up.
Right winger my arse.

Ray #2 Out of the players who have made it through into the 1st team under Moyes there is only Rodwell that could be argued as going backwards under Moyes- and this has a lot to do with his injuries that he has had.
Name any others? I can name the ones who have grown under Moyes "laughable" methods.

Coleman - a gamble from Irish football who is now a £6 million plus player.
Gosling-turned into a prem player after signing from Plymouth. Until the infamous gentlemans agreement incident meant he moved on.
Rooney-world class now. Probably will admit that Moyes coaching early on helped him.
After that you cant say any players have actually gone backwards.
Vaughan- NO, too many injuries to be blamed on coaching.
Anichebe-hasnt gone backwards-but probably wont go forwards either.
Other youngsters havent broken through yet or are plodding around the lower leagues.

Agree with Andrew it's not a matter of if he'll leave but when. We're a fading club, unless that mega money comes in and we once again become one of the major players then we won't be able to hold on to him. It'll be Rooney all over again.

What is this? Rooney's sale was 7 years ago! Barkley's played two games against shit opposition and now the club are in danger of alienating the kid and destroying our future. Wet rag of a post. Grow some. And give me back the 60 seconds it took to read this girly twaddle. Christ, I'm actually going to have a large gin having read this needful moping surrender of your own spirit and gumption. Can't wait for the game tomorrow. Will watch it online with the ToffeeWeb community. Sunil, you go watch Glee with the some little girls and don't come back until you can act like a man, or at least a mid-pubescent teen. I am actually pissed off. Where's that Gordon's! ARGHHHH!

What the hell!
Make him feel appreciated, he's 17 playing prem footy how much appreciation does he want. Facts are if he turns out to be as good as it looks he will be he will go to the biggest pay cheque and that won't be Everton. END OF

It doesn't matter whether we make him feel wanted.

It doesn't matter whether Moyes playes him where he wants every game.

If he wants to go, we can't stop him. Just enjoy the free football he plays while you can.

To be fair to Sunil, we don't have the best record for cheering our own. Rodwell seems to be the new whipping boy after Hibbert and Osman. Anichebe should be exempt at the moment as he IS our top scorer(!)

I hate all this tosh about local lads having it tough. If they're any good, have the right attituade and work hard they will be appreciated all the more precisely because they are local.

Barkley is just like any other local lad. If his head is screwed on and his perfomances are up to scratch, he'll be revered - but I'm afraid I'm not going to wax lyrical after 2 games, no matter how promising the start.

Rooney went because he was fed shite by Stretford, a man who has been proven a liar in court. He was tapped up to death in the England camp and was shagging grannies, nothing to do with lowly contract offers, he was offer the highest wage at the club but stil went...making up bullshit about Moyes, which again was proven to be shite with Moyes being paid out by the publishing company.

The lad isn't as good as many think and will probably start being called all the names under the sun when he becomes knackered and has a few bad games because he has played too much footy....exactly what Rodders said last year.

Far too early to make any predictions after only half a dozzen appearances, especially considering he has been out of action for nearly two years and is likely to be a bit rusty. I wouldnt like to see him get built up and then knocked down by the fans like Rodwell, although i could never see what all the hype was about in the first place with Rodwell.

He has done very well so far from what i have seen, looks much more promising than Rodwell in the little i have seen of him. I doubt he will be on the level of Rooney but hopefully he can be the next step down on the Willshire, Ramsey level.

But remember even James McFadden looked like the best thing since George Best after 2 games.

I disagree. I dont think we should look to make Barkley feel that he's so important.

Giving players power like that is a dangerous thing. Once they realise the club needs them more then they need the club they usually start demanding higher wages and then a transfer.

I say make Barkley feel like he is lucky to be playing for a great club like Everton.

Player power is destroying football.

Andrew, Moyes still insists that Coleman is a right back but I think most people see him as a RM, a position that has made him,in your opinion, a £6m player. He only got to play there by accident
Gosling was and never would be anything other than a squad player. Think back to when he jumped ship...no one on here thoght he was THAT good, we were just pissed off over the incompetence Everton showed re his contract.
I don't know how much Moyes had to do with Rooney's early development seeing as he wasn't at Everton. He used him sparingly and Rooney still warmed the bench on occasions prior to his move. Ferguson put him in the team and left him there.
Rodwell is played out of position far too often. It's no wonder he looks lost and lacking in confidence. Read my comments again. I ONLY mention Rodwell. I have always argued for Moyes but his negativity, crap substitutions and intransigence regarding players positions is getting me down.
Rant over.

This lad does look a bit special. BUT i remember being at Goodison when Michael Branch made his full league debut against Middlesborough back in '96.

After watching Branch that day i thought he was going to be a true superstar someday.

The last i heard Michael was playing non-league football.

I am not trying to sound negative but lets just give the lad some time before we get carried away. I know we all need something to cheer us up but don't start getting all starry eyed like i did about Branch.

It just pisses you off if it doesn't work out.

Do people really think Wayne Rooney needed much coaching? Do me a favour.

Moyes maybe should have done things differently but anyone thinking he left because Moyes played him on the left or left on him the bench needs to get in the real world. As Tony mentioned above, his agent, Mr Paul Stetford, knew he had a cashcow on his hands and moved him accordingly to what was at the time the richest team in the world. Rooney now gets paid £250k a week, something he would never have achieved here.

I remember when Moyes played Wayne on the left of midfield and got slaughtered for it. Alex Ferguson did it and he was a genius.

Re Barkley, a few poor games and dicks will be slagging him off.

It's the Everton way not to support a player going through a bad patch.

I remember early on in his career many fans would use Leon Osman as an example of Moyes not giving youth a chance.

They would moan that Osman is the next great hope and Moyes was silly to send him out on loan.

Then when Moyes gave him his full debut and he scored within minutes those fans were shouting 'told you so' and claiming Osman was Everton's Stephen Gerard.

Those same fans now regulary slag off Osman and claim he only gets picked because Moyes only picks his favourites.

If he develops as well as not only us Evertonians want, but also as the media/pundits/nationals expect he will do , then he''ll be gone within 2 years to one of the Manchester clubs , but I suspect he will clear half of Bill's debt (£30-40m for him)

Sorry to say it but if he continues to develop as he is doing he won't be here for long.

Bill will probably do another one of his 'deals of the century' and sell him for way below what he is worth as he did with Rooney...then say he had to sell to save the club but got 'the best deal he could for Everton Football Club' or some similar shite....

It's sad to say, but a majority of the comments here reagarding Barkley is that he will hang around for a few seasons and then be sold on to a proper club to reduce our overdraft. I'm not disagreeing, it's just a sad statement of affairs when the feeling amongst the supporters is one of acceptance that one of our most talented players will be sold on to another club with ambitions of winning something. Does this officially make us a `Selling Club`? I think it does.

Very interesting to see Mr Capello singing Barkley's praises on Sky. He was also very nice about Everton and stated its important Barkley plays week in week out which he can do at Everton. Compared this to the situation of Josh Mc at Chelsea which he stated was not ideal. Trevor Brooking was also there talking about what a talent he was and comparing him to Rooney!

Tony Williams @12 what negative shite to spout regarding Barkley, the kids plays two games is man of the match in both and struggles today in the second half against Blackburn as to be expected for a 17 year old kid playing his third game in a week following 18 months of injury.

From what I have seen so far Barkley has a natural talent, aggression and flair, something that cannot be coached. I expect Barkley to be viewed by the Club as an asset, and when finances are tight, big and ambitious clubs start circling, then expect the inevitable a sale to the highest bidder.
