Rodwell ? Where was he on Saturday?

 36 Comments: First  |  Last

Just seen Rodwell with Under-21s today, he looked okay, doing sprints etc . Anyone have any idea why he didn't play on Saturday ? not even on bench?

Moyes was digusted that a player like Rodwell couldn't cut the mustard playing right wing.

Hahaha, great shout Jon.

Personnally I still believe Rodwell is a great talent, I also think he may have to move to fulfill it.

Mike, I thought he had picked up a knock against Sheff Utd, who knows though.

Thanks Ian, It's a bit like getting Joe Royle to get his boots on then dropping him next game because he can't run or think fast enough.

Mmnnn er well......

Ken, I seem to remember that we gave each other "Dead legs" every other day in the school yard. It didn't stop us playing footy the very next day.

What is this injury all about? Is it more now than when I played football? Is it to do with its intensity or are footballers now total girls?

Jon, you were a kid in the school yard, we're talking about an adult professional athlete?

Jon,

I think there is quite a big difference from getting a smack in the thigh and carrying on having a kickabout with your mates at school and having a smack in the thigh and then being asked to play a game of professional football in the quickest and most intense football league in the world. Dont you?

David (10) ? It's about what you're calling a "dead leg"

Is it something else like say for instance if I was a dog and was born in a stable would I be a horse?

I just remember.

So, in terms of Rodwell, is the club lying or was he dropped from the the starting 11?

And dont forget a dead leg is a dead leg, When I'm at school, It's from a schoolboy and my muscles are in league with the boy twatting me. But as a pro my muscles are the same evoloutionary composite as the adult giving me grief.

Which ever way you look at it, EFC propaganda.

At the end of the day, Rodwell was dropped cos he isn't and never will be a right winger.

Like Rodwell v Kanchelsjis?

Jon,

As far as I am aware, the lad had a slight injury that meant Moyes did not feel he was fit enough to be involved in the squad on Saturday.

As far as I am aware, there is nothing more to it; it really is that straight forward.

But if you want to read more into it, that's your choice.

Rodwell actually walked out of Goodison prior to kick off. Wasn't happy when Moyes told him he was going on at half time. . .for Howard..... page 3 rule2.4 from the Moyes coaching manual. If you can't beat them with brain, baffle them with bullshit

Jon - if you ever actually had a full on contusion (that's the American medical term, not sure if British doctors use the same language) it can disable you for days. Like any injury, it can be at different levels.

As a (cough cough) highly trained athlete of 46 years, I got one last season and I really couldn't walk for several days and had to stay off it for a week. A bad one can require surgical repair.

So... per other comments you can assume the worst and he's being held for transfer, which we will know soon enough, or it was as it seemed.

Either way, there's nothing we can do about it right now so we should stop worrying.

Kanchelskis ? a player who could play on the wing... that would confuse Moyes too much. He would play him in the centre with Rodwell on the wing. Had Moyes been around in the 1980s he would even play Alan Harper out of position!!! Impossible you think ? not for Legend in his own mind Moyes ? I have every confidence that he can find which position least suits a player and then play him in it.

But does ANYBODY know Rodwell`s best position? Moyes has often said that he EVENTUALLY sees him in central defence. Have we got to eventually yet as he has failed to make his mark anywhere else!

Ha loved the horse comment Jon. Isn't a "contusion" just an explaination for why Jolene is claiming $500,000 for having a bump in her car.

if Rodwell has any sense at all he would put a transfer request in and get as far away from David Moyes as possible before his confidence is destroyed for good playing uner Moyes dirge football

If Moyes thinks Rodwell's best position is centre back, then why doesnt he play him there, in a cup game or something. Then again, has anybody ever even seen Rodwell put in a tackle on anyone? Win a header? Look comfortable on the ball? Look comfortable on the pitch?

4 Things going against Rodwell at the moment, they are,
a) injury prone.
b) has not taken that next step up - in skill terms.
c) contribution in games is questionable.
d) believes in his own hype.

Jon, it is a different thing getting a dead leg through a punch and getting one through a foot or knee.
E.G. If you punch a guy in the face that is wlaking past you in the street it might make a mess of his face, if you instead bent him over and knee him in the face it would make a bigger mess, if you instead though bend him over then run and boot him in the face he will be picking up face pieces for weeks.

Now go out and test my theory!.....Unless I'm the man you find in the street that is....where do you live again? (gulp!)...... ;)

Love all the dead leg banter. On a serious note though, Rodwell needs to move on. We're a stale team, and his development has gone stale.

I saw him get battered twice as a central defender against very poor opposition (two pre-seasons ago), so feel it would be suicide to try him there.

I've been saying for 3 seasons now that if he could grow a pair of bollocks and start tackling and running, rather than coasting through games, he'd be a great player. Maybe that's something you can't teach?

Thats why he's wasted on the right wing. He can only pass two ways, left or right. So when he's playing right wing he can only pass left.

At least he can coast through games and look uninterested where ever he's played.

To all you smart arses talking about Moyes playing Rodwell out of position who are experts on tactics, please tell me what your starting 11 would have been against QPR and where Rodwell would have played? Taking into account the injuries including Arteta Saha and Fellaini not being fit enough to start.

I dont see how Rodwell would be a better player at another Club, the fact is if he cannot get a game in the current Everton team and just dont see how he would get in any team above us.

Surely if any player does the business in a less favoured position over a sustained period then the manager will then play him were he prefers?

From what i have seen of him he is a good athlete but his footballing ability is limited. Players who control games and turn games with a flash of brilliance get my attention as possible future top quality not players who do the basics well.

If Rodwell is with the under 21's then maybe he can take notes from young Barkley as early or not he has shown more skill with a ball at his feet in a couple of games than i have ever seen from Rodwell.

Which is why both Man U and Chelsea have failed to follow up their initial interest with a firm bid.
However he has been injured and played in many different positions, so the jury is still out.
