Yakubu and Beckford

 27 Comments: First  |  Last

Having just read the news that both Yakubu and Beckford may be leaving us, I have to say I will be impressed by Moyes if this holds true.

Yakubu has not looked sharp enough since his tragic injury, and Beckford, for all his pace and effort, looks too often like a headless chicken to lead the line.

More importantly, Yakubu's wages at Evertom are right up there with those of the top earners at the club.

Moyes frustrates me with his tactics, but he is generally pretty astute in his transfers. I am sure the club will take flak for this but I don't think criticism is warranted in this instance, as fashionable as slaughtering the club has become of late.

2 strikers out, and 1 in who no one has ever heard of. Yes, very impressive!

If these moves happen then we won't be worse off. I think Arteta staying is very good for the Blues although at 29 a 10 million bid wasn't bad but Everton probably figured in today's market closer to 15 million may have been more reasonable.
Sad that Becks couldn't have had longer. He is very quick but needed more coaching in ball control .Scored some really nice goals though.
Yaks was out of favour for some time although keeping Anichebe seems a no-brainer as he has very little goals in him.
The 2 new names mentioned may just work out if they come and are played regularly to settle in.

The two new signings will end up in the reserves like all the other timewasters Moyes signs...

When will we all accept his time is up? Time for him to move on.

Lets give these two boys some time before we write them off. None of us had heard of Fellaini before he came to us & he turned out OK.

Assuming the two new guys can play a bit, they will be good additions. One a left sided player to back up or play with Baines. The other a striker.

Not altogether upset with the sales. Loved the Yak, but uinfortunately hasn't been the same since the achillies. Hasn't been as bad a Moyes seems to think, but still hasn't been himself.

Beckford? Stike while the iron is hot - he's a league one striker & we've just sold him for $4m!

Considering his lack of relative mobility, his wages & his insistance on smacking every freekick into the wall, i accept that losing Arteta isn't the end of the world. Not when Osman can step straight into those shoes. Might even give Bily a make or break chance to prove him self in the centre of the park rather than out wide.

Still would have liked to flog Jags for $15m & play Heitinga as a CB with Duffy as a backup.

Is there any news on Yobo?

Totally agree with Jarrod #6. I loved Arteta but he's become so frustrating when in the middle. Hard to recall the last defence splitting pass or deadball (except pen on sat) that created a goal. He looked better on the wing thou couldn't help feeling he was fragile and not far off another injury!

Yak going is also sad but necessary as he earnt more than what he contributed.

Also thought Beckford could have been good but if Moyes didn't believe he could and he should be at the peak of his career then hopefully can use the money in a better way.

Both the loans are young, while Dreathe has CL experience and regarded are one of the fastest having been player of the tournament for an U21 winning Dutch team, also out of contract at the end of the season so could be an absolute steel.

Denis has got a rep for goals in Argentina and could do alright as still learning and could be cheap at the end of the season if he works out!

I think we just need to be glass half full, as Everton need a buzz around the place at the moment! We have a seriously small squad but some great players and atleast hope that we might have a striker who could hold the ball up and get goals at the same time!

Just watched a 9 minute Youtube video of Denis, whilst you cannot always judge from this avenue, he does seem to know where the net is, lethal with head and right foot, but the key attribute he has is, he can play with his back to goal, which is the pre-requisite of an Everton striker under DM.

How the fuck anyone can defend what has been done is shocking.
Who is going to score goals for us ?
Saha is a and will continue to be injured and we are left with a lump who has not scored in the league for two years nearly and some other lad Moyes will not have even seen.
For all the criticism of thos two strikers we sold, they score goals and you can bet both will score more than our forwards do put together.
As for Arteta, in a real world with time to replace that would not have been a bad deal, but now it is and people now will come on here trying to gloss over it.
We had too few players and now have even less, that fucker is gambling with our Prem future and I think we are in serious trouble on the field now too.

Not sure selling Yakubu for £1.5m (as reported) when we turned down £6m last season from West Ham is astutute management?

Just watched same youtube of Denis, [Are we trying to improve sales by getting him and Bily ie another long unpronouncable name ] As Thomas 8 said v good in the air and appears to play well as lone striker.
Beckford cost nowt sold £4mill, really was never going to be good enough, 2nd touch a tackle.
Yak i think it's more about the wage bill and Moyes obviously doesn't rate him anymore.
Arteta, BIG wages little return for probably the last 2 seasons, it would be interesting to know how many games he's played and how many he's missed ?. Plus his deadballs aren't a patch on Baines anymore. £10mill plus the wages saving, in our current plight deal mr Banker.
Thats a substantial reduction in wages and £16mil ish off our debt, cover on the left, which could be a great partnership, and a probably better striker than the ones gone.
Not jumping up and down but at least somethings happened which might make us better than that Blackburn game.

Martin, i doubt VERY much the new boys will be starters, remember it's Moyes picking the team.
Lets just hope they perform well in training. That Drenthe is supposed to be like shit off a shovel.

Agree with Iain (13), but you must admit, we cant go on like this. What if the loans dont work out great and they go home at the end of the season? Yes, we have cut some of the debt, but I very much doubt it will create much in the way of transfer funds in the future. Does anybody think Fellaini will even consider signing a new deal now? That Baines/Jags will not now press for a move? We still have no money. The banks still wont lend us any when it comes to January, or next summer.

We are in deep shit, 2 strikers gone out and one in on loan who is unproven. Fulham got the best signing in Bryan Ruiz. We go out and get two LOAN signings and i'm meant to be excited by this??

I'm really worried about this season now and could struggle to stay up if these loan signings do not do the business.

Also if they do turn out any good do you all really think they will be sticking around at Everton?? what message is that sending out to Felliani et all??

Hope these signing prove me wrong by performing and then signing permanently if they do well.

Its time people faced a few indisputable facts about Yak. After his first season the goals grew less and less. We had correspondents on here going on about his age, his sizable paunch his lack of basic fitness and even his motivation. In truth he was crap long before that injury.
Before that unfortunate event there was speculation also on these pages that he was angling for another pay out by way of a transfer.
Some Twebbers with Boro connections suggested a similar theme happening at that club.
I hope Yakubu, Beckford and Arteta serve their new clubs with distinction but please recognise that in each of their cases we were lucky to see the best of them.
In Yaks case that was about three years ago.

The striker we signed must be seen as a first team regular by Moyes because Saha will get injured and he will be litreally all we are left with! Im not that fussed by Mikel leaving he has been living on past glories for a long time now but i heard Stoke tried to get Cahill at the last minuet?! Now it is one thing to have players brought by 'bigger' clubs but when clubs like fucking stoke start trying to buy your best players then you know yu are in trouble. On a + point Drenthe is a really good player and could turn out to be anouther Piennar for us. We wont miss Arteta.

Agree about this Argie being the main striker Chris. The question is are we any longer a bigger a club than Stoke, on past glories yes but at the moment we're going backwards and they look like a progressive club pushing on.
As for Drenthe, i really hope he does match up to Pienaar and not turn out to be another noodle like Van Der Meyde.

Can't see the Dawn of the Dead looking Denis being the main striker at all. Would be very (pleasantly) surprised if he's even half decent to be honest. He was on trial at Leicester recently and they decided not to take him.

I have to disagree with the comments about Beckford - considering last season was his first in the top division it was a good goal scoring return in my opinion. I would have liked to see him playing in a 4-4-2 formation, I think that he would have done well. Moyes seems obsessed with 4-5-1, which he uses in 95% of our games - look at the facts - Moyes has " got through" several strikers in his time as manager. Have all of these guys been bad players ? I don't think so.

If some rich sugar daddy comes in and buys Everton - giving Moyes enough dosh to buy David Villa I reckon Moyes would ruin the player.

Bit disappointed to see Beckford leave. Our joint highest scorer last year when he didnt even play much. However, 4mil for a player we got for free aint bad.

Wouldn't have entertained Arteta leaving a couple of years ago, however his form did dip after his injury so whilst im disappointed to see a great guy leave our club, i again think this is good business.

4 players out, 2 in on loan. 3 strikers short. Considering our weakest place was up front, i'm bemused that we are now weaker there.

I remember watching 'Jo' in the Russian League on Youtube and he was out of this world! I wouldnt pay much attention to small clips of players unless there genuinely top draw!
Think we should of kept Beckford and £1.5 for the Yak who we paid £11 million only 4 years ago, who is an international and 28 is fucking dreadful business whatever he earns!!
