Baines and Rodwell start v Sweden
As expected, Jack Rodwell got his first full England cap this evening against Sweden, but it could have been even better if one or both of two excellent scoring chances had gone in fro him. Leighton Baines was recalled in a much changed team from the weekend's win over Spain. As it is, England lead at half-time through a goal by Gareth Barry.

Rodwell had a header defected beyond the post and then contrived to miss when he might more easily have scored. Stewart Downing broke free down the left and his cross was perfect for Jack Rodwell to nod into an empty net inside the six-yard box, only for the midfielder to glance his header on to the outside of the post.

Perhaps unrelated or not, Rodwell was replaced in the second half by James Milner.
