Pienaar to answer speeding charges next month

Steven Pienaar has been given unconditional bail to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates Court next month after responding to an arrest warrant for failure to answer to two allegations of speeding last October.

The player's lawyer described the situation as a misunderstanding as his client was unaware of the court date issued to him as they were sent to his previous residence in Essex. Pienaar moved back to Merseyside in February after rejoining Everton on loan from Tottenham on transfer deadline day.

The South African responded immediately to the warrant and will appear in court for sentencing "at a later date."
