Contract extended one more year
At 34, the Everton players' Player of the Season, Sylvain Distin has been given a one-year contract extension. He made 33 appearances last season and is looking forward to performing as defensive stalwart for the Blues in another top flight season, his fourth since joining from Portsmouth in 2009 as a replacement for Joleon Lescott.

?I love my job and I know how lucky I am to do this kind of job. I want to carry on as long as I can. I don't need a boost. No matter what happens, you can be sure I'll be there the next day.

?It's a good squad here with a great atmosphere. I feel so comfortable with the lads, so it's a pleasure.?

Of his award, he added: ?I've won one or two before, but this one has a special flavour. It's special because they are the guys who see you working every single day.

?You can't fake, you can't hide, you can't lie — they are there every single day.

?Guys like Baines, Fellaini, Heitinga, Jagielka, Howard — there's a lot of quality in this squad.?

Distin's season was only marred by a costly error in the FA Cup semi-final which lead to Liverpool's equaliser at Wembley.

And Distin added: ?That split-second in the semi-final represents nothing compared with the whole season but is still something that I keep in the back of my mind. That takes more importance than the whole season to me, personally.

?I'm passionate about my job, I love my job but I only focus on the bad things I do, never the good things.

?It did hurt me, but I bounced back — I had to and I'm happy I did.?
