Yobo agent says deal is still on

Despite quotes attributed to "a source close to the Nigerian" defender yesterday saying he was walking away from his proposed move to Fenerbahçe, Joseph Yobo's agent has apparently confirmed that nothing has changed and the deal is still close to completion.

A Turkish blog citing quotes from the source in Nigeria claimed that "the deal is off due to issues bordering on lack of communication and commitment," but Nigerian journalist Oluwashina Okeleji of the BBC World Service Tweeted today that the 31-year-old's agent has denied the report.

John Shittu told Okeleji:

"The rumours are untrue. We are only finalising details. It should be sorted out soon."

Update Yobo remains frustrated, however, and the latest quotes attributed to him suggest that he is looking for Everton to reduce their valuation of him.

''I want to plan my future. [Everton] should show understanding, and reduce their valuation,'' Yobo was quoted as saying by Hurriyet in Turkey. After training back at Finch Farm for a week, the defender is in Nigeria.

"Now, I will wait to hear news from [Fenerbahce]. I will wait in my country until there is a positive development."

Hope we can close this deal, as it will take us over a month to sign a player who wants to play here, for a few quid. Such is life at Everton.

Mark L, what do you think it's like keeping on top of all this bollocks? We bring news as we find it, that's what we do.

In hindsight, this should have stayed in the Rumour Mill but at the point that we received assurances that the quotes from the source were genuine, we elevated it to the main page.

My advice: if it's so boring, don't read it...

Yeah maybe best to stick them in the Rumour Mill but whatever you do don't stop putting them up. Any glimmer of hope is much appreciated.

It's a fucking disgrace, there is nothing in that report above that can be used against Kenwright, Elstone, Moyes, the forward planning/security team, that steward with the slightly wonky head who stands by the St End goal............what the fuck do you expect us to say about this??

The only thing that really pisses me off is that we are once again a joke of a club when it comes to this. We seem to put it in the air like it's a done deal.

We can't run a piss-up in a brewery. Any other club would've washed their hands with this first time round... and wouldn't've gone to press.

Same thing with the Pienaar deal. This time Moyes has come out and said it's nearly done... 2 weeks later, it's far from done and two other clubs are in the mix now.

For the first time in a long time, I really thought we were going in the right direction with Naismith and Pienaar not long after. And yet again, I feel like I have been mugged off. Cahill gone and possibly Heitinga, if you believe the rumours. If this does go tits up I really don't blame Moyes for walking.

I think that Toffeeweb's reporting is excellent. Considering the work that goes in to it, and the supposed validity of the source, you can't blame the site for putting it on the main page

In fairness Terry, as frustrating as it all is the club haven't said a word about the Yobo deal as far as I can remember so to say that they're "putting it in the air" simply isn't true.

Moyes has however made reference to the Pienaar deal. Again, the two other clubs in the mix is only paper talk at this stage.

I think the problem is that we like to hear developments re transfers such is our plight and we get all too excited when we hear the merest snippet.

Yesterday it was all about many posters blaming Everton for Yobo reportedly pulling out of the deal. Today it's all about blaming Toffeeweb for reporting that according to his agent the deal is still on!

I think (for some) it's just a case of trying to find something to moan about. If it was announced tonight on SSN that the deal had gone through and TW hadn't reported it was apparently still a goer I suppose there would have been moans about that too!

Toffeeweb (amongst other things it does) is a site that gathers news (accurate or otherwise) about the club and makes that news available for users to consider. If some find that boring then tough. At the moment I am sick to the back teeth of the Olympics being on all sources of 'News' to the extent that I am beginning to turn myself off when I hear the word. But I understand the need to provide the information so I live with it.

Live with Toffeeweb reporting on the Yobo affair. That is part of the job they do....for us!!!!!
