Jagielka looks to the future

Phil Jagielka admits that the Everton players were as shocked as the fans to learn that David Moyes will be leaving Everton for Manchester United this summer but has called on the club to continue to build on the "positive work of the last few seasons."

One of Moyes's last significant acts as the Blues' boss was to elect Jagielka as Everton's new club captain to succeed Phil Neville and the England international defender expounded his admiration for the 50 year-old as he steps in the Sir Alex Ferguson's shoes at Old Trafford.

"Like the rest of the squad I have nothing but the highest regard for David Moyes," said the 30 year-old whom Moyes signed from Sheffield United six years ago.

"He is a first class operator on and off the training ground and on behalf of the players I would like to place on record my thanks for the work he has done improving the team.

"It was as much of a shock to the dressing room as I'm sure it was to Everton and our fans.

"All the lads wish him the very best for the future but we still have two important Premier League games to play and all our attentions will be focused on winning against West Ham and at Chelsea.

The skipper sounded the right notes about the need to push on when the new boss is appointed this summer, saying: "Once the season is over we can collectively look forward in order to ensure we continue to build on the positive work of the past few seasons."

It's short and sharp. I'll be sitting in the Park End on Sunday in my usual seat alongside my two sons and my best Evertonian mate. Do I want Man U's manager (OK not until July 1 but will he be studying West Ham with a view to next season) in charge of our team or does that make us look sad and pathetic like Bill?. I don't actually know. Do you?

Makes us look pathetic IMO, Toby.

It's small time in my view. The Chairman and now players have placed on record their thanks to Moyes.

Now put him on gardening leave.

Gary Lineker put a letter in the Echo. Why would Moyes get a standing ovation?

Moyes should not be allowed anywhere near The Old Lady on Sundat

Moyes has made it very clear that he is no longer committed to Everton Football Club. There is no way he should be allowed to be in charge of our team for the remaining games. Thanks David, but just fuck off now.

Rob - grow up. He's received a fantastic job offer.

If I resigned from my job tomorrow, I'd be expected to work my notice. I presume that EFC have said to Man U that if they want DM before the end of his contract they want compensation and I guess that ManU have said "on yer bike". That being the case DM "works his notice". it's fairly standard stuff.

Why on earth would he need to be put on gardening leave in the meantime - do you not thing that he will do a proper job in the next couple of weeks?

He's been with us for 11 years FFS - I would be ashamed if we put him on garden leave in such circumstances

I hope Distin beats him up in the showers after the final game.

If I could make the game I would go! I would also stand and give a huge cheer with true thanks in my heart as he walked off the park. He came in and turned us from a side that saw relegation being a reality and probability to top 8 side on about $800,000 a year.

For some, that's not enough, but for me it means more than Mr Sheik, Russian oil baron coming in and buying the title.

I'm a Davey Moyes fan and I hope next year he does well and we thump 4 past him at Goodison.

I agree that Moyes should not be there on Sunday, when does this happen when a manager goes?
We will have all those 'good luck' flags out no doubt and I say good luck to him, but not that way, it will make us look like little small Everton giving a lovely send off... Would our neighbours do it if their manager pissed off to another English club?

Paul, our neighbours have continually shown they have no class.

Do you really aspire to emulate them?

Now come on, lads be fair
If you want to sign the card, we'll be outside the Winslow
Collection buckets will also be outside St Lukes, the Brick and the Park End
This is an opportunity to be in at yet another first for our club - being managed by an opposition manager

Drinks and nibbles in the Alex Young Suite after the game (free for £5 entrance fee)

Problem is, Moyes consciously, in collusion with his new employer, has screwed his current employer out of a compensation payment. This move, as Kevin Ratcliffe said in his Sky interview, will have been in progression for a number of months (all illegal of course). Applaud and cheer Moyes as he goes? You must be joking.

Steve 337, Moyes contract runs out on 30 June, that means he has been able to legally talk to anyone about a new contract since 01 Jan, wihtout needing the ok from efc. He and united have not done anything illegal.
As for being manager for the last 2 games - I really don't understand why people are so bothered. He will want to leave efc on a high and so aim to get a result in his last home game against WH, so I have no issue with that - its not like he's going to learn some secrets about efc is it? The last game away to chelsea is another matter but what are you going to do, put round in charge for one game?

Get a result against WH and we will finish 6th even if we get tonked in the last game of the season. So after this weekend, our season is well and truly over.

After 11 years he deserves to get a send off imo, however he will not be working until 30 June. Once the last game is done, then its time to clear the desk and go. There is no reason for him to be at the club after the last game of the season so I expect he'll be gone in 10 days.

Bickering about him being in charge for the last two games is a bit nonsense imo. Our position in the league is all but guaranteed. What will be interesting will be to see who be picks in the last two games and if the likes of fellaini and baines will get full games......may want to avoid injuries before they head west? Or if he'll give the senior players a rest and play some of the kids.

We'll know soon enough
