Everton to return to Africa next summer

Everton have agreed to another pre-season trip to Africa to play the winners of the SportPesa Cup as part of their sponsorship arrangement with the Kenya-based betting firm.

The exact dates of the exhibition game to contest the SportPesa trophy have yet to be decided but it will almost certainly be in July 2019, although the club are advising fans not to make any travel arrangements until everything is confirmed.

Everton made their first trip to the continent 18 months ago when they played Gor Mahia in Tanzania, with the Kenyan side making the return trip to Merseyside last month.

This is not a good advertisement for our club; we are playing awful football. Let's not show the world how bad we are!!!!

Tim, they'd better ‘effing be. I really hope the DC United friendly is true – there'd be a good contingent going from the North East.

On a serious note, this sponsorship deal has landed straight into spam file. The market we are aiming at Africa, is not the one we should be focusing on, America & Asia should be.

The group themselves are sports betting, which works against the American model since the States seem to be very conservative with this type of brand (although it's changing slowly).

Their social media feed has seen several clueless errors which as they have multiple partners in the premier league looks amateurish.

This feels like a very poor decision; at the very least, the relationship needs redefined... if not terminated.
