Talking points for Everton vs Mansfield Town

Everton will host Mansfield Town in the first-ever cup game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Wednesday night.

The game has already been sold out and the Toffees will be positive going into this clash against lower league opposition following their heroics against Brighton last Sunday. David Moyes is expected to make a few changes to his side with the weekend’s game against Wolves in mind.

Surprisingly enough, this will be the first meeting between two historic sides that have existed for well over 120 years.

Here are the major talking points ahead of Everton vs Mansfield Town: 

Soak in the rich atmosphere

A sold-out Hill Dickinson Stadium will await the 52,769 Evertonians making the trip to Bramley-Moore Dock tonight. The first cup game to be hosted at the waterfront stadium is bound to have an incredible atmosphere.

The mood in Merseyside is joyous and following the 2-0 victory over Brighton as well as the addition of Tyler Dibling, the Toffees will be in loud voices tonight against lower league opposition.

Official debuts for Mark Travers and Adam Aznou?

Mark Travers, bought from Bournemouth this summer to provide competition to Jordan Pickford, is likely to start between the sticks as cup keeper. Travers started in Everton’s 2-1 loss to West Ham in the pre-season and has been on the bench ever since.

While it will be tough to follow on from Pickford’s heroics against Brighton, this will be a good opportunity for Travers to convince Moyes, especially after that fatal error he made against the Hammers in his last appearance.

Adam Aznou missed the first two Premier League fixtures after picking up a knock but is back in the squad now and should ideally slot straight into the starting XI to replace James Garner at left-back with Vitalii Mykolenko still missing.

Aznou, too, will be looking to impress his manager after a sloppy display against AS Roma in the pre-season.

Minutes likely for Harrison Armstrong?

Harrison Armstrong came on for the final few minutes of injury time in the win over Brighton. The 18-year-old had some impressive performances during the pre-season, and with Moyes likely to shuffle the pack here, there could be considerable minutes for him in the middle of the park.
