Leicester City 1 - 1 Everton
Well, that was some extended weekend.
Thursday, we put my wife’s ashes to rest in the West Midlands.
Friday, the boy dog died. He was called Rorke, after Rorke’s Drift given the southern African origin of the Rhodesian Ridgeback. The vet came around to confirm what I knew, and then he gave me one final send-off. Lifting a dead weight to send him off for cremation. Thank you, blue Rorke!
Saturday, off to Leicester. As is usually the case, weekend engineering works, so I had to improvise to get to Euston, which was full of Kopites, presumably travelling up for a “home” fixture. I just ignored them. I had to go to Euston and get to Leicester via Birmingham because of more engineering works and I couldn’t be doing with replacement buses from Bedford. It was actually quite straight-forward.
Anyway, onto the match. We played well and it was mostly a good performance. The shoots of recovery are there, and I saw enough to see we can turn the corner.
Ndiaye was great. What a goal. There is always something special when a shot goes in off the post. Great strike. I know he causes angst when named in the team, but what a through-pass from Ashley Young to set him up. It shows the difference when players have confident, willing runners in front of them.
Both Lindstrom and Calvert-Lewin could have sealed it. Is it me, or does Dominic shoot too low? Get some air on the ball and get it over the keeper in those one-on-one situations.
Strange substitutions. I didn’t understand why the manager took off two of our most attacking threats, keeping Leicester on the back foot. All that happened is we invited them on. Michael Keane can’t be at fault for their leveller as there were many culprits. He had to defend and gave away the corner. However…
For their equaliser, as a former defender, the defence was static and seemingly ball-watching. No one took responsibility. And Jordan was rooted to his goal line. In fact they all were. Take control, claim it or punch it, even if that means going through one of your own players to get the ball away from the danger area.
The weather was atrocious. As I left, it was still pouring and the streets were flooded. My socks and shoes were drenched. I stopped for some food at one of the vans. The very kind lady told me to come inside, which was as a nice gesture.
Off to the station. Uber wasn’t having it, so I had to roam and find a taxi rank and get more wet. The taxi driver wanted cash. Now I don’t carry too much cash these days. I had a fiver on me. Now given I’d only paid £6 total to get to the ground, he took my fiver and then charged me £6 extra on my card.
I managed to get back to my local in time for a nightcap, which the manager paid for. I think he feels sorry for me. Still drenched, but I eventually dried out.
In summary, we could have and should have won that. But we’re off the mark and have a point. In different circumstances, an away point would be welcome.
Well done to all the blues who followed, wherever you were.
Man of the Match: Only one contender for me, Ndiaye. We’ve picked up a gem there.
I’ll be up next weekend for Palace and staying over as we are laying my grandmother’s stone at Allerton cemetery as she has been laid in a pauper's grave since the '60s.
Excuse the pun: it never rains, it pours. What a month.
Come on, Everton, give us that win.

Agree completely about the wonderful Ndiaye and the massive question marks hanging over Dyche's substitutions Danny (yet again). It's becoming a near weekly theme.
The noise in that Biblical rain was hair-raising. Hat's off yet again to the magnificent 3,000.
Take care of yourself Danny and take something to make sure that you don't come down with something after your soaking. You might be a tad vulnerable right now with all that you have been through.
COYB!

Sorry about the loss of your dog and the stress you have been under the last couple of months, hopefully things will pick up for you soon and I know Everton improving will give you a big lift, best wishes for you as always mate.

I was hoping that your dog's condition would have been a treatable ailment, but sadly not to be, and I am sorry for the loss of your beloved Rorke, particularly at this already emotional time of your life after losing your wife. Thinking of you at this time.
But I must say that your account has positive tones emanating from the written words, both for you and our team, a good sign.
Having watched the game, I am certainly more confident that we can come together as a balanced team and that they will soon click into a unit that can start moving in the right direction, up the table.
The new boys have a lot to offer, given their recent showings, giving rise to a certain degree of optimism for better results to come.
Well done, once again, to our travelling fans. The journeys and weather conditions they had to endure to shout, cheer and chant for the rest of us Blues who couldn't be there was once again amazing, you always do us proud.
Palace next, I am fortunate enough to be going that game, so can't wait, COYB.

Definitely good signs, and I read yesterday, that McNeil, so far this season has created the most goal-scoring opportunities in the Premier League games to date.
Palace is massive but fate this week will be kind for Everton, I'm convinced. UTFTs!

Hang in there, best wishes.

Passing of a loved one is the hardest burden to carry but memory is a funny thing because as time goes on you remember the brilliant things about them and smile. Focus on all you love, the boys in blue are ours, loved and idolized, your support is already legendary, it brightens the days for so many of us who wish we could be there.
The rain was horrendous indeed but the sun will shine again because, with supporters like you, the smiles will return to give The Old Lady a wonderful send-off and "the dock" a glorious start. Thank you, Danny, for your spirit in adversity and the smiles that shine through the (Leicester) rain.

Saturday was indeed another two points lost, even though for the last 15 - 20 minutes we were hanging on, but with no real threat on our goal. The game should have well been won by the time they equalised. There are definite signs of a decent team in the making, with the new lads, Ndiaye, Mangala and Lindstrom looking promising. Add in the returning Branthwaite, Mykolenko, Chermiti and Broja and the only way is up.
Ive just been reading on the BBC website that it looks like DCL wont be signing any new contract extension, and the skunk maggots re-kindling their interest in him., whilst another rumour is that Graham Potter is saying he would be very interested in the Everton job should Dyche be given the push. Has Textor already begun the search for a new manager behind the scenes? We shall wait and see!

Everton and football has always been my escape.
When I'm at the match or when I used to cross that white line, nothing else matters.
I have to mention Neil for looking after me. Always, thank you for thinking of me.
On we go, Blues. The win is coming.

Stay strong mate. 🙏

I thought all 3 new signings played well, obviously Ndaiye was the stand out performer but I thought both Mangala and Lindstrom had decent. Whether we have to temper our praise for a better performance with the fact that Leicester looked a very poor side, but we certainly looked to carry more of a goal threat than they did. Pity about their equaliser, I like keepers who command the 6 yard box and probably that's Pickford's biggest weakness. A lot of the goals we have conceded this season has been from balls into the 6 yard box that Pickford should have dealt with.
But it was important we got something from this game, as I think another defeat would have put enormous pressure on the players and not least the manager. Confidence is a great thing in any sport and I think had we won a game before now we may have scored a couple more goals.

Please take care mate.

Hopefully the loss of Rorke and that soaking has got all the bad news out of the way and we have some good luck to come.
18 Posted 24/09/2024 at 19:02:07
ATB - hope to catch up soon.
19 Posted 24/09/2024 at 19:32:02
We'll meet up. My Battersea based Chelsea cousin has said he'll get me a ticket for Chelsea - Everton but in the home end. I said I'll keep my mouth shut, but he said I'll be fine!!

Onwards and upwards, Danny.

Yet you're always a positive voice in a sea of despair!!
Your posts always put a smile on my face, and remind me of my uncle who took me to my first game at Goodison Park. He never got too down about results and never got carried away.
Wish I could have followed his example!!
UTFT, Danny !!!!!
