Just when it looked like Tottenham Hotspur were positioning themselves to capture Iliman Ndiaye in a swap-and-cash tangle involving Richarlison, Manchester City have swept in to hijack the transfer entirely.
According to The Athletic and David Ornstein, City have struck an agreement in principle with Everton for a deal worth up to £65M (£60M up front plus £5M in performance-related add-ons).
The late-stage swoop completely alters the landscape of deadline day for Everton, explaining the sudden stalemate in Spurs' negotiations and shedding new light on why Richarlison’s return to Everton hit a speedbump.
City turned their attention directly to Ndiaye after seeing an ambitious £80M bid for Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo flatly rejected. Having lost attacking firepower with Savio and Omar Marmoush departing, Enzo Maresca’s recruitment team earmarked the Senegalese international for his tactical flexibility and pressing intensity across the frontline.
For Ndiaye, the draw of Champions League football proved decisive. Having turned down multiple contract extension offers from Everton over recent months — insisting on a release clause — Ndiaye made it clear that, while he loved his time on Merseyside, he was determined to play at the highest European level.
Ndiaye is expected to undergo his medical with Manchester City on Tuesday ahead of the transfer window deadline.
Tottenham's advanced negotiations stalled once City entered the fray, forcing Spurs to pivot towards alternative targets like Mykhailo Mudryk on loan from Chelsea.
With Ndiaye heading to the Etihad, Everton are actively working to negotiate a separate deal or inclusion that would bring Jack Grealish back to Merseyside after his previous loan stint.
For Everton, losing Ndiaye — who has been in lively but typically ineffective form following his summer World Cup campaign — could be a massive blow to David Moyes’s attacking engine room. However, receiving a guaranteed £60M gives the Everton hierarchy crucial funds to reinvest late in the window.
In addition to negotiating for Grealish, the Blues are actively pursuing AS Monaco forward Folarin Balogun as Beto edges closer to a move to Fiorentina. It promises to be a frantic final stretch before the transfer window slams shut.

A bit more palatable than the Spurs deal, especially if we get Grealish at a discount.
Richy at 35m with 10 months on his contract is beyond negligent. Basically 3m a month for a year, plus wages on a player they’re desperate to get rid of 🤷♂️

Good. I'd rather he left for City than Spurs. Not that it really matters but at least he'll go on and win something. Good luck to him.
It also probably adds further weight to Grealish coming back on loan for a season - he'll then be free if we want him next year.
As for the Richarlison deal, well that looks likes it's all gone south now.

Looks to me like Richy is trying to make it impossible for Spurs to stop him coming to Everton but wants to feel he’s had control over the process.
Hopefully that’s true and that Grealish and Balogun are on their way too.
We really need a LB with Aznou going to Malaga on loan, as well as the obvious RB deficiency.

How fast things move. I thought Balgun was £17m according to yesterday's reports. Good player, way better than Beto but not sure about that much.
Personally I'm underwhelmed about Grealish but even more so on spending stupid money on Richarlison.

Good luck to him, he's been an excellent signing for a bargain fee. I don't actually think we'll miss him as much as some seem to think, I'm pretty sure Johnson will have 6 League goals by the end of the season (fingers crossed) and that's all Illi managed last season.
Our options on the wing are pretty good if Jack returns, Balogun is a more than adequate replacement for Beto but we desperately need full backs.

This one stings.we don’t have many players that get me out of my seat - how we ever hope to challenge for Europe when we sell players, the ones that look to make things happen. For me he was a breath of fresh air, after years of sideways and backwards passes. I wish him all the best, but this shows the ambition of TFG

I still think we should have got a higher fee for Ndiaye, and can we try and get Lewis off City, he's not on big wages, and would be a better bet than Tete,

The 40M valuation of Balogun was much more in line with his performances for Monaco and in the World Cup. I'm surprised we'd pay that much but if we're going to sell Ndiaye and Beto, then I'm all for it. I think he'll do very well for us.

In my opinion, 40 million is too much for Balogun. He still needs to prove that he can cut it in the league. After all, we paid a lot for Dibbling, too—and we know how that turned out. As things stand, we’re still mainly lacking a good right-back and a good left-back. Surely there must be some money left over after the Ndiaye deal and the other sales.

We can't afford proven PL strikers, there are not many of them at the level we want, or can afford.
I'd be willing to bet he scores more this season than the 130m barcola, 50m delap.
We are basically getting him for the tim & beto fees so it's good business.

Getting potentially shafted both ways by Spurs has pissed me off all day. So glad those jumped up twats aren’t signing Ndiaye while 35 mill for Richie is a joke. 12 months time and we’ll have him for his wages. There’s deffo a deal going on tomorrow. Be happy as long as we don’t splurge on the fee.

Who has read about or can confirm Melvin Bard incoming? I've not seen that rumour anywhere - only stories linking him with Coventry City - so maybe not a player of the level we need to challenge or, preferably, bench Mykolenko...?

Alright, I will roll. This has been a good day. One might quibble about prices at some percentage but overall the turnover is both sufficient and useful. If we can get an additional RB, brilliant, but even with Tete overall squad improvement is unquestionable.

I don't really know how to bid farewell to Ndiaye. While being ever so grateful for his skill in possession and work ethic in defence, the ending to last season along with his sulk this season has me a bit less than tearful about his departure.

That said, his template glum sulk will be on display all season on City's bench, as he puts pins in a Semenyo doll.

85M for some bloke across the park that I've never heard of (but then I don't know too many of theirs through lack of interest) turned down but 60M+5 add on for a player widely admired is deemed good business?!? Can't help feeling that having been and maybe still are involved with Grealish and possibly Lewis that we could have done better.
As for Balogan, I've only seen him at the World Cup and he didn't strike me as anything outstanding while Richie's got the taste for London wages, next stop possibly Brazil on a free.
Sorry to see Iroegbunam go as it did look like there was something more to come from him but the writing did look on the wall for Beto when Barry was given the first 70 minutes rather than the last 20, some people's habits die hard or his move has been on the cards for a while.
On the plus(?) side more names to market on shirts.

Ian, I think we may have another Ledley King situation developing here...that's the only way we hold onto Jarrad imo.

We have Johnson, George and Dibling. All wingers. Grealish coming in, if he passes the medical, would not only add to the quality of the side (obviously) but I believe could help to develop the others, to a degree, in training.
Ndiaye was a big light in a pretty bleak side. Focused on by opponents. Snuffing him out more or less quashed what little threat we offered. Thus disappearing in many games.
At City, all of the players are big lights so Ndiaye will have less attention and we may see things he couldnt do, being in the Everton side.

N'Diaye will always be a quiz question, if nothing else, being the player who scored the last goal at Goodison Park and the first goal at BMD.

I must be missing something if Gakpo was going for 85m but a far better player only gets 65m!
Apart from this deal, getting rid of a fair amount of our deadwood is good business. McNeill, Iroegbunam, Patterson and Beto for 40m plus Brennan Johnson is better than anyone could have hoped.
