Academy product Joel Catesby heads out on season-long loan

Everton's young winger and academy product Joel Catesby has joined Accrington Stanley, who sit near the bottom of League Two, on a season-long loan.

Catesby, who was born in Birkenhead, has been at his boyhood Toffees since the age of 4 and having progressed through the Academy, he signed his first professional contract with Everton 2 years ago.

The 19-year-old has made a total of 34 appearances across the Under-18s Premier League, Premier League 2, and the EFL Trophy, with Catesby scoring the first goal in this month's 6-3 defeat to Stockport County.

Accrington Stanley manager John Doolan said: "Joel is a very good player, he can beat a man, he has pace, and he sees the game. I have watched him over a period of time and it's a different option for us.

"This is his first loan deal, it's what he needs, and it's his next step. It will be a big part of his development going forward, to step into men's football and play for 3 points on a Tuesday and Saturday.

"He knows he has to be patient, but he is definitely going to add quality to our squad."
