Hull City win the most financially consequential game in football
Billed variously as the most financially consequential game in football, Hull City play Middlesbrough -- and not Southampton -- at Wembley Stadium this afternoon for a multi-million-pound opportunity to partake in the riches and fortunes of the Premier League.
This final comes hot on the back of 'Spygate', with Southampton kicked out of the final game, and Middlesbrough reinstated after William Salt, an analyst intern with Southampton, was found to have been spying on a Middlesbrough training session.
This seems to have set a new low precedent in English football, with Hull City's owners threatening to take legal action if they lose play-off final!! So the result of this match to see who joins Coventry City and Ipswich Town in the Premier League next season may not be the end of this sordid affair.

I also read something about Saints players possibly suing their own club.

Do we have any former parishioners in the ranks today?
I forgot to check...

Of course, thanks, Steve.
And this Hackney bloke is only on the bench. Is he injured?
Why so many empty seats? Is that the Royal Box?

Why so many empty seats... is that the royal box?
It is, and the empty seats are due to Prince Andrew's arrival.

Watched the last 25 minutes of the first half...
You don't have to be a prophet to predict whoever wins this game will be relegated next season!

Agree Dave, poor game of football with two teams full of average footballers, even accounting for the pressure of the game.

Brilliant defending, John.
18 shots... 1 feeble effort on target... no goals.
Moyes has taken so many notes, he's run out of paper and is having to jot things down on bog roll.

Crap, John. I'm only watching it because I'm still recovering from surgery and can barely walk.
In their defence it's fucking hot down here (I'm about 6 miles from Wembley) and will be at Spurs tomorrow too.

Michael if this game was on Talksport,Moyes would be describing it as a brilliant thought-out game by two brilliant managers!
I gave up on it about 15 minutes ago. I think it will go to penalties with one of them winning 1-0 or 2-1.

What a rubbish free-kick from Boro. Three bites of the cherry...
They don't deserve it. Maybe they can find something to sue the EFL over?

Fine Margins really... a fraction less on the cross and the keeper either gets a better touch or even catches it.
But there's a split second where the ball pops out and McBirnie had only one thing to do.
Or VAR could have shit-canned it for that other Hull player on the goalline, offside, seeking an advantage.

Michael, he hasn't played since March, looked tidy.
McBurnie scored the winner for Hull. Clarke picked Stewart ahead of him for Scotland World Cup squad, even though McBurnie scored twice as many goals as him, and now in the Premier League... strange?

Paul @34, who knows, but give teams a chance. 2 out of this season's promoted teams have stayed up and may finish above Everton.
Particularly sweet for Sunderland taking 4 points off Moyes.

Paul,
I'm not sure Coventry will, to be honest. They have looked a tidy football team and I think Lampard is growing as a manager.
There'll be teams next season that struggle we don't expect... we may be one, lol!

Coventry will stay up. They, too, have a knack for scouting players. Lampard and Coventry are a good fit and I want him/them to succeed. They actually play entertaining footy.
Hull v Middlesborough just sounds grim in any context. Two dour places. Grim final. McBurnie is going to get on my mammaries next season. Horrible bastard. Fully tatted. Top Jock forward though.
Speaking of which, are we in for Maeda at Celtic? If not, why not?

Cheers Derek, I had no idea that he was the other side of 30. Should have checked.
I also like Engels at Celtic and, I just checked (!), he's 22. Some shot on him.
