The Athletic is reporting that Everton have reached an agreement 'in principle' to sign Christian Norgaard from Arsenal for a fee in the region of £7M.

When David Ornstein and The Athletic drop an "agreement in principle" update, the usual transfer window scepticism has to be tempered with a dose of cold reality. Everton have reportedly struck a to bring 32-year-old Danish international to Merseyside.

If the routine medical tests go smoothly next week, Nørgaard should become the second new signing of a flat transfer window and the latest addition to David Moyes’s central midfield options ahead of the new campaign.

How We Got Here

Nørgaard's trajectory over the past 12 months tells a familiar story:

  • The Brentford Peak: Nørgaard was Brentford’s club captain, a reliable, defensive anchor who made nearly 200 appearances in West London.

  • The Emirates Wilderness: Arsenal paid £10M to take him to North London in summer 2025 as a squad rotater. He went on to make just 20 appearances across all competitions (only 11 starts), registering just over 1,000 total minutes as Mikel Arteta rarely trusted him in high-stakes fixtures.

  • The Everton Void: Following Idrissa Gana Gueye’s departure on a free transfer, Everton’s central engine room was left severely stripped of senior, defensive discipline.

The Analytical Breakdown

While £7M in today's inflated market sounds like a modest fee for a proven Premier League anchor, the move comes with distinct pros and cons:

Metric / Aspect Profile & Reality
Profile Defensive Midfielder / Holding Anchor (Age 32)
Key Strengths Aerial duels, positional discipline, interception reading, senior leadership.
Main Drawbacks Lack of mobility in transition; zero future resale value.
Squad Role Straight swap for Idrissa Gana Gueye's defensive minutes.

1. The Financial Logic

At £7M, Nick Cox and the elite recruitment team are opting for a low-risk, short-term fix. With tight financial guardrails still limiting the transfer budget, Everton simply cannot fork out £35M+ on a prime 24-year-old holding midfielder. Nørgaard represents a functional, plug-and-play solution who won't require a 6-month adaptation period to the Premier League.

2. The Tactical Fit

In Moyes's setup, Nørgaard will be asked to sit deep in front of the back four, break up play, and recycle possession quickly to the wide areas. His distribution at Brentford was tidy, if unspectacular. However, his lack of pace means Everton's surrounding midfielders (primarily James Garner or Tim Iroegbunam) will need to provide the dynamic legwork around him to prevent the team from being overrun on the counter-attack.

3. The Arsenal Pipeline Pattern

Everton fans could be forgiven for feeling a slight sense of déjà vu. The path from the Emirates to Merseyside (Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi) has often yielded mixed results. Buying a player who logged barely 1,000 minutes last season means his match fitness and sharpness will need careful management during the remainder of pre-season.

The Verdict

Nørgaard isn't a signing that will send shirt sales soaring or dominate social media highlight reels. It is a pragmatic, eminently 'sensible' move in the mind of Moyes, designed to prevent a glaring structural weakness in central midfield before the Premier League season kicks off.

If he brings the standard of positional leadership he displayed during his years at Brentford, £7M will look like very shrewd business. But make no mistake: this is a functional stopgap, not a long-term strategy for a squad still lacking youthful dynamism in the middle of the park — although Merlin Rohl was doing his best to rectify that back in his homeland this afternoon.

The Athletic confirms Everton agreement to sign Christian Norgaard for £7m.

Excellent. 32 but a quality player at a pocket-change price, which means sell-on value is not a concern.

Sensible buy. Plays regularly (robust enough for the Premier League), ex captain of Brentford, does the ugly stuff well, cheap signing for 2 years. Arsenal arent signing him if he doesn't add value.

Allows Iroegbunam to be sold or Armstrong to go on loan if he isn't quite ready.

We all want better, it hints that money is tight,

Christ Norgaard! Arsenal sign him, hardly play him then off load him within 12 months.

Clearly our 30+ age group quota needs improving since Gana's move. FFS!!

Norgaard played in 20 matches last season. 1040 minutes in all. Most in the Champions League 309 and 101 minutes in the Premier League.

He's fresh as he can be and a Danish Warrior to boot. 41 caps for Denmark, so no mug.

£7M is a bargain these days and doesn't eat into what is hopefully left for a right-back.

Norgaard at 32 can still do a job, but back to the game, why isn’t Moyes playing O’Brien at centreback with Branthwaite, he’s got tunnel vision.

Signing another player in a position that we are not short off, where is a new right back or will we get the excuse we don't have enough money to fill in a position we have needed for at least the past 2 seasons. Will most probably end up with a player just looking for a payoff for his last season needing an oxygen bottle to catch his breath at the end of the game..

I view this as an excellent signing. Quality player and experienced, valuable squad support at a pocket-change price. Replaces Gana's defensive nous at 6/8, and a fine passer. Good cover for Garner's likely absence through September.

Also seems to me to be another indicator that Hackney was purchased as a #10, not a deep-lying midfielder. But that's just my guess.

Comparing Norgaard to Xhaka is like comparing Tobias Linderoth with Paul Scholes.
If we were desperate for a defensive midifelder we'd have kept Gana, why not leave it until January if the club still fancy him & sign him for free?

Well, at least Moyes can say he buys players from the likes of Chelsea & Arsenal. He'll waste a shit ton on Grealish next and add Man City to the list.
Anyone got any ideas on a Man Utd cast off or sicknote & an RS kid he could bring in so he can have the set?

On the face of it this transfer window looks light years from what we were promised. However with still a month to go this could be getting our ducks in a row.

The Alistair Johnston rumour grates me and I'm hoping this helps us afford to get a Doue like signing. Norgaard is needed for his defensive nous, his leadership and his physical attributes. We don't have an outright six in the squad. I don't care how many minutes he played for Arsenal as him being there will have added to him as a player. Dewsbury Hall only played primarily in the conference league.

Some players will now be moved on and their fees will hopefully be put to good use in weak areas of the squad.

Best to judge at the close of the window to see if a smart piece of the jigsaw or just another cheap option for the owners.

This could be a shrewd signing, in the Granit Zhaka mold, but only time will tell. At 32, he is 2 years younger than Granit, and if he can give us a solid 2-3 years of service, then why not? If Chelsea can buy Danny Welbeck and Jordan f**king Henderson, then why not us getting Norgaard for a decent fee? I am still hoping for. a 50 million marquee signing. But seeing the comments of De Zerbi, Richarlison may be on his way out, and with 1 year remaining on his contract, can we get him on the cheap? Beto out for 15-20 million, and Richarlison in for 20-25? A front 3 of - Richarlison, Ndiaye, George and a midfield of Norgaard, Garner and Dewsbury-Hall? Hopefully we get in a proper right back and then I might actually start feeling a bit positive about the season.

This feels like an absolutely excellent signing.

I'm starting to think that maybe Johnston is being signed cos Moyes has decided that, whatever happens, Rohl will be in the team this season. If he can't make midfield, then they can fight it out for fullback without us breaking the bank.

Decent player - but do we need him?

We’ve got Garner, Hackney, Tim, Armstrong, and Rohl already vying for 2 positions behind KDH.

Unless we’re selling one, or loaning Armstrong out again - I just don’t see the point.

Why are people so worried about fullbacks? Ok we need specialists in that area but we got players who can stand in, we've got no strike force to speak of and very little creativity in midfield so the fullback situation shouldn't be the priority for me.
Ashley Roberts
52 Posted 01/08/2026 at 20:08:37
Let's be honest, it is an okay signing but nothing to get excited about. If Ndiaye leaves we will need somebody exciting to take his place. Maybe Rohl will go someway to being a replacement.

We need a striker and not Delap. I would try Jesus as at least he is a known goal scorer. And please please buy a right-back before the season starts.

A striker who's had 3 loan spells with a grand total of 3 goals

The lad doesn't need to bed in or adapt to the Premier League, he's ready made and might allow us to go deeper in cup competitions etc.

We need depth too… we know Moyes loves a big team, and he's 6'-1”. Someone else to bring on to defend set pieces and hang on to 1-0 leads, I suspect.

Rohl, Hackney, Dewsbury-Hall, Garner, George, Branthwaite, we have some good young players at the club.

What is wrong with Garner. btw? Is he injured? If so how?
Mick O\\\'Malley
68 Posted 01/08/2026 at 21:29:33
Shaun,

Garner is injured just in time for the new season, so this transfer will help out a lot. The lad is a Danish international and Arteta thought he was good enough to sign.

I know he never played much but no way he was getting in ahead of Rice etc.

69 Posted 01/08/2026 at 21:37:03
I'm okay with this signing. Old head, who plays in front of the back four, is what we need since Gana left. The other midfielders we have are nowhere near Gana but Norgaard defo knows how to play the position.

Arteta played him most in the Champions League and in the domestic cups.

Age 32 DOB 10/03/94. Right footed.
Career stats.
DM 245 games, CM 79, AM 25, other 17 inc 10 has CB. Career goals 31, assts 31. Denmark Caps 41 / 2 goals. Winners medals 2, EPL Champion and Danish Cup winner.

Nathan #43, I am a fan of Tim Iroegbunam, and then 5 minutes later, I'm not.

He's so inconsistent, even in a 15-minute passage of play, there's a decent player in there somewhere, but I'm not sure if anyone will ever see him.

I agree if we can sell him to Hull for £20M and bring in Norgaard for £7M, then that's decent business, but if we don't, and Norgaard is the free to sign Gana's replacement, then that is poor business.

Mr Kenrick, if it's you deleting the posts, I'm not criticising you, but it shouldn't be an issue in the first place. Bizarre.

Jeff @73.

Norgaard has played right-back once, on 20 November 2011. He has played centre-back 10 times, the last being for Brentford, in the Championship on 8 May 2021.

So the answer to whether he can play righ-back is... probably not.

Andy @74, well said.
Sean Herbert

I like Norgaard as a player and I can see why everyone would make a move for him. But he definitely wasn't the next player through the door I was hoping to see.

Bournemouth currently have 5 right backs under consideration, yet we are only linked with one, bang average, right-back. Are our options really so limited?

Our so-called elite recruitment team are certainly keeping their powder dry at the moment.

Excellent signing and a steal.
You don't have be a superstar in the Number 6 role, just a sitter who can protect the back four and add a bit of stability.

Posters keep on about the right-back... yes, we know -- but if other options for other positions become available, then you have to step in.

Manchester United are unlikely to sign Everton attacker Iliman Ndiaye, 26, with Al-Hilal willing to pay the £75M that the Toffees want for the Senegal international. (Football Insider)
Mark Taylor
80 Posted 01/08/2026 at 00:41:32
It may be unfair on the recruitment team. That may be having to work to a brief. That basically being, no real money.

Sadly we forget that George and Rohl cost us money in this window, plus we have Hackney. Granted these are £20M or so players but I fear that is us being flush and we've spent it all.

Hence now scuffing around at the sub £10M mark with another Scottish (Premiership playing) right-back and now this, presumably to allow Rohl to cover at wide right and even right-back.

It really isn't great. Maybe just enough to beat relegation but most of the sides below us are beefing up their squads and are not likely to finish below us.

I'm getting cynical but I can see us selling Ndiaye but most of the cash going back to TFG and maybe a bit spare for a loan for a replacement.

I can see us sticking with the two Bs upfront.

Solid signing who I wanted last season (albeit on a free). Makes sense now Gana has moved on.

I think he will play a lot of football for us this season; he had a rest season at Arsenal last time round so will be fresh and raring to go.

We need Ndiaye sold ASAP, if he is to go, so we can spend as it's becoming clear we don't have any other money to spare.

Still think Beto will go as he's only got a year left, Patterson too should go... Maybe Delap or Zirkzee, something like that to come in, hopefully Grealish too (maybe as a loan deal along with someone else who fits straight into the first XI) and the rest of the Ndiaye money spent on a right-back and ideally a centre-back upgrade.
Derek Knox
83 Posted 02/08/2026 at 02:40:15
When he was out of contract at Brentford, and available on a free, I had hoped that we would have made a serious approach then.

No, he goes to Arsenal -- on a free -- and we pay £7M for his services a year later.

Good business for Arsenal should he not figure in their plans, obviously not, but another blunder by us not getting him earlier.

Having said that, I think he will prove to be a good signing for us!

If only, but we are clearly not in the same league as Brentford. Nor do we have recruiters with the same creativity as Lee Dykes. Lens, Lille, Leipzig, is exactly where we ought to be shopping, Cox.

Brentford have confirmed the signing of Mali midfielder Mamadou Sangare from Lens for a club record fee. The 24-year-old joins on a five-year contract, with an option for a further year. No fee was reported by the club, but they say it surpasses the £42.5M paid to sign Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth last summer.

Quattara is also miles better than anything we have. Miles.
Tommy Carter
87 Posted 02/08/2026 at 08:02:47
@86 Paul - you make an interesting point. However you have to have a manager capable and willing to pick these players.

If you offered Moyes the opportunity to sign the unproven and developing Kroupi and Rayan that Bournemouth signed -- he would want Soucek instead.

If the recruitment board signed these players anyway -- he wouldn't pick them -- he'd play Dwight McNeil instead. It's like the Adam Aznou situation.

Norgaard fits the bill for Moyes and he can cite in the future how the club doesn't have the spending power to allow him to do any better and that's why we should be grateful for what he can deliver.
Paul Griffiths
88 Posted 02/08/2026 at 08:10:57
Not disagreeing Tommy - 87 - but what is the point of assembling at a hefty price a so-called ace recruitment team if the manager can stymie their work with his oldest PL gaffer by 9 years sterile shite?

Moyes should have gone in May. That's what forward looking owners would have done. This was a year when there was a rare crop of exciting managers on the market. TFG have set us back yet another year.

Keeping Moyes after the erm 'stabilisation' period - i.e. keeping us at 13th - was a massive mistake that has harmed our club and stymied this window's business.
Sean Herbert
89 Posted 02/08/2026 at 08:13:04
Obviously Norgaard won't be able to play for a few weeks. He will need to be integrated into the squad.

At least that's what our elite manager will say, as he builds for yet another underwhelming season.
Tommy Carter
90 Posted 02/08/2026 at 08:28:58
@88 Paul. You won't get me disagreeing with that. Moyess' ceiling is not Everton's ceiling no matter how much he tries to convince the world that this is the case.

People use atrocious leadership of the last 10 years and how bad of a situation we were in as a measure of where we should be. Wrong.

Big clubs go out and get the best managers. Glasner was available this summer -- the board should've sacked Moyes and made a move to bring in Glasner. He's won 2 trophies in 12 months and we have won none in 31 years.

Howe is available now. And has won a trophy and achieved Champions League football.

One of our stalwart posters made a simple comparison / observation, not even really a joke, which the thought police jumped all over and really got their nickers all bunched up, even playing the racist card which I absolutely abhor.

I didn't see it until a bit later, so the vigilantes kinda went overboard, as is their usual inclination, unfortunately.

Derek @83,

There seems to be a salient fact that you are missing in your diatribe.

I don't think Norgaard was a free transfer last year. Arsenal paid Brentford an initial fee of £10M (with potential performance-related add-ons) to bring the Danish midfielder to the Emirates in the summer of 2025.

People are pointing to the fact that Arteta signed him last season.

He did sign him. Then he did not trust him to do any kind of job whatsoever for his team. Norgaard played a total of 101 Premier League minutes for Arsenal last season. Half of those were in the final game of the season in a completely meaningless fixture.

Let's not hide from the facts. This is an utter disgrace. Put it in this contact also -- when he signed for Arsenal last season -- did anybody think ‘I wish we could've signed him'? I very much highly doubt it.

We came into this window needing improvements and upgrades in a variety of positions.

The only position we had sorted was central midfield. We had Garner, Dewsbury-Hall, Iroegbunam, Röhl and Armstrong competing for two positions with no European football. Our response? Sign two more central midfielders.

This signing just sends out all the wrong messages. Another season of young talent being squandered or played out of position while ageing, past-it players clog up the team playing dour, miserable football.

Can no-one at the club see how miserable they are making the fan base? Sign a right-back (two actually, given the bizarre Patterson aversion) and sign some forwards who score and create goals.

Given the that we finished last season in decline, I would have thought TFG would have shown some ambition...

But it appears to be more of the same for another lucky mid-table position next season, which is somewhat disillusioning for the fans.

I wonder if Moyes is over riding the new recruitment team?

His link to Arteta and Celtic isn't exactly casting the net far and wide.

How many people have we recruited from his old boys network? His son is the European scout yet we can't look beyond the UK. His brother is an agent who brought us set piece expert Charlie Adam. The whole thing has a whiff to it but the owners appear to be happy.

I know Moyes is cutting his cloth accordingly as we obviously have no real money to compete but there must be young hungry players nearing the ends of contracts across Europe we can take a chance on.

Can you tell I am not enthusiastic about the new season. I am trying to get out of the auto cup scheme as I already know Moyes will throw the towels in.

Andrew 98. It's hard to get excited about a 32-year-old who is defensive minded and doesn't score or create goals.

Our team is crying out for goals from all areas but we are stockpiling defensive centre-midfielders.

It's very unlikely he will turn into prime Tim Cahill.

@98 Andrew. You're happy then Andrew. I and others will moan until the club is back where it belongs -- competing for trophies.

Most of us are aware enough to know that signing Christian Norgaard is not a step in this direction.

@96 Mike. You are spot on. He is choosing to strengthen an area of the pitch where we are already capable. Harrison Armstrong can wave goodbye to any hopes of a game and Hackney will have to do that period of bedding in that Moyes insists on before he trusts the player. Such as playing Lescott left back for a year and a half, waiting 4 years to play Seamus Coleman right back, playing Arteta on the wing for 3 years etc etc

It is plainly negligent to strengthen an area of the pitch where we have players ready to another areas where we don't.

Norgaard is a signing that stops the opposition playing -- not gets us playing. We have virtually no attacking threat -- we have absolutely zero pace in the forward positions

Just seen Bournemouth agree to sign Juanlu Sanchez, a Spanish international right-back, for £9.5M up front fee with £1.7M in add-ons and a 10% sell-on fee.

We have been linked with him for the last couple of transfer windows... seems like a huge mistake not signing him. Then again, only 22 and a Spanish international... so doubtful Moyes would play him anyway.

There's a lot to be concerned about at Everton, but this deal isn't one of them. This seems to me to be unalloyed good news.

We had nobody in the squad who plays Gana's role, and now we do, with an immaculate pedigree, for buttons.

There is an irony for those of us who are perpetually calling for a right-back. We have signed a genuine Number 6 -- not a converted one like Schneiderlin, Allan or Gana, something normally missing from our squad like the right-back.

There isn't one in the band of midfielders we currently possess. For me, Alcaraz will be sold then either Iroegbunam will follow or Armstrong will go out on loan.

Norgaard will also ensure we only need to sign one quality right-back as Rohl and Garner can be tasked with providing cover.

I am hopeful on this one as we have so many young midfielders that, for once, I think we do need experience, leadership, organisation and another quality player around them.

I don't think this was just a Moyes decision as this was a profile we were lacking, and learning under Arteta can only benefit us.

Looking forward to seeing him in blue.

I think Norgaard will prove one of the best signings we've made in recent years. A much needed proper Number 6 (that we definitely don't have) to mop up in front of defense and progress the ball.

If he picks up anywhere near his last full season at Brentford, he will be one of the first names on the team sheet. Similar age to when Barry signed and could well have a similar impact.

@ Sam

Sorry but he couldn't lace Gareth Barry's boots.

He didn't play a single game for Arsenal last season. Not one complete game. And prior to that he was a regular for an average Brentford Premier League team for about 3 years.

Barry was a key player in a top side and had played hundreds of Premier League games and won dozens of England caps.
Sam Hoare
125 Posted 02/08/2026 at 16:54:00
Tommy, let's see.

The numbers Norgaard put up in his last season for Brentford compared well with any defensive midfielder in the country and was certainly a step up on what Gueye managed last season.

Maybe not quite Barry's level but your hyperbole is misplaced.
Ian Bennett
126 Posted 02/08/2026 at 17:22:42
I agree, Sam. 10 goal involvements in his last season at Brentford; decent passer, good around the dressing room, adds to set piece threat or defensive capabilities.

Adding height to a midfield that offers little from set pieces, plus the above for £7M is smart business. Whether we like it or not, nearly 30% of goals are coming from set pieces in the Premier League.

If this allows Armstrong to flourish on loan or Iroegbunam to be sold for a good profit, then we will get more than just a good Number 6.

This is the market of player we are in for.
Conor McCourt
127 Posted 02/08/2026 at 17:23:04
Tommy, don't forget last season, even with Gana, we wanted a defensive midfielder but ended up with Dewsbury-Hall. Because Idrissa has left, the option has become a reality.

It's a squad game and Hackney will challenge for a start with the others.

As for Iroegbunam, Armstrong and Alcaraz, we aren't going to start the season with all of them, it's not rocket science.

129 Posted 02/08/2026 at 19:26:19
I think some people need a dose of reality on our transfer budget. There's no £40-50M players coming.

If you can get an idea of our SCR position, as Paul Quinn has kind of estimated, there's no big money available, unless we have a big sale.

These are the figures he's estimated:
85% of football revenue plus net player trading allowed.
If their 2026-27 revenue lands at c.£260M, the allowable squad cost ceiling is c£221M, With a current wage bill of £152M and player amortisation of c.£65M (total squad cost c.£217M), Everton are already in the high-80s/low-90s on SCR.

So how people are looking for £40M right-backs and £60M wingers, I have no idea. The reality isn't nice, but I'm not expecting any big money moves, even if Ndiaye went for £60-70-80M the holes needed to be filled in the squad, you are looking at 3 or 4 £20M players at best.
John Collins
130 Posted 02/08/2026 at 19:58:41
My concern, David, is we sell Ndiaye and don't reinvest the full sum.

I don't think we will sign a right-back tbh... Ben White at a push.

Moyes loves 6 foot 2 plus full backs. I'd have a good bet O'Brien starts at right-back v Palace.
David West
131 Posted 02/08/2026 at 21:11:41
John. When you look at the numbers, if a huge bid comes for him, it would be hard not to except, when you think we need a right-back. So I don't see the benefit of not investing the full fee. I don't think it would be up in the £80M mark. Probably £65M... £70M.

The other argument for Ndiaye staying, apart from being one of best players, is with SCR and the amortisation of the fees, his fee was not much, therefore isn't impacting SCR as much; he's on small wages too.

Not a lot of people are looking at the transfer window with realistic expectations, so they are bound to be let down. I was always wondering where the SCR limits would be for us, now I'm basically not thinking anyone big will come in.

See lots of negativity on Norgaard... probably the same people who moaned we didn't sign Xhaka. He could turn out to do a good job, I said our midfield looked lightweight, he fills that role.

Tommy Carter
134 Posted 02/08/2026 at 22:09:08
@130 John. I've said it in here before. Man Utd are playing Champions League football next season. I think if you sold them Branthwaite and O'Brien tomorrow, then they'd be their starting centre-back pairing instantly.

We have £100M of centre-backs, both of a great age and with the ability to improve, both 6'-5", rapid, and can both play. It's insane that you would not start these players as centre-back.

Just like it was insane 20 years ago to not start Wayne Rooney as a central striker.

Just as it was to not play Jagieka and Lescott at centre-back together.

Just as it was to play Lescott left-back ahead of Leighton Baines for nearly 18 months.

Just as it was to play Seamus Coleman right midfield for nearly 3 years.

Just as it is to manage football teams for nearly 30 years and never have a striker score more than 16 Premier League goals.

Or to never win a game at Anfield in nearly 30 years of management.

Bournemouth yesterday and today just taking the piss out of our ace recruitment team:

Bournemouth are finalising an £11.1m move for Sevilla right-back Juanlu as new manager Marco Rose's squad nears completion.
The 22-year-old will cost an initial £9.4m, with a further £1.7m in add-ons, and is expected to move to the south coast on a long-term contract. Juanlu is a tall, attacking full-back with significant experience despite his young age and has been heavily capped at Spanish youth level.

Sorry, I posted that not reading earlier posts. I'm glad others got there before me.

Great to see Sam Hoare giving his opinion. I'm more pleased with this signing than I was yesterday. A true 6, like a true 2, has been an issue for a while now.

However, 2 strikers and 2 full-backs are higher priorities in my opinion than our new Dane.

We simply cannot - CANNOT (sorry MK) - start next season with either Beto or Barry. Worryingly, the oldest manager in the PL by 9 years seems to be moving towards RB Jake and striker Barry.

Haha.

I am more interested in getting goals into the team. So if there is a player that is coming in, is capable of scoring or creating more than the fella he replaces, then bring it on.

Statto or not, 6 goals and 4 assists from his Brentford form would be welcomed. Gana got 5 goals or assists last season.

I am looking forward to seeing him. If the back two are O'Brien and Branthwaite, then he is exactly the experienced player to play in front of them to sense the danger. He may also allow the full-backs to bomb on, with him prepared to sit back.

Good teams are about balance. Somebody prepared to do the dirty work, put in a challenge, stop the game and take a yellow. He stiffens up a midfield that looks a bit soft without Gana. If he allows us to sell Iroegbunam and add £13M net to the kitty, then that is decent business.
