The reason behind new signing Christian Norgaard failing to appear in any of Everton's pre-season friendlies since he joined the club to great fanfare has finally been revealed: he's carrying a "small injury".

Christian Norgaard was one of four Everton players to speak at the Men in Blazers live event with lifelong Evertonian presenter Roger Bennett that was held at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night.

“I have a small injury at the moment but soon, hopefully I’ll be ready and I can’t wait to get out there for the first time.

“We’re hopefully close, I can’t really put a time frame on it. I feel like we are getting very close, so not too long.”

The 32-year-old Danish international was expected to feature prominently in the Blues' warm-up matches following his £7M move from Arsenal earlier this month. Having arrived with impressive Premier League pedigree and being handed the Number 23 shirt — vacated by long-serving former Club Captain Seamus Coleman — supporters were eager to see the defensive midfielder anchor David Moyes’s midfield.

However, Norgaard was a notable absentee throughout Everton's final pre-season preparations, leading to growing speculation among fans regarding his fitness. Moyes has now clarified the situation, confirming that the Dane has been sidelined with a minor setback rather than anything long-term.

Norgaard addded that "being at a club like Brentford where they worked so intensely on set-pieces made me learn a lot. Hopefully I can bring this to Everton because there is so much height and so much size in the team.

“I don’t see why Everton should not be one of the best teams in the league when it comes to set-pieces.”

The manager assured supporters that the issue is relatively minor, though the club opted to exercise caution rather than risk aggravating the problem before the competitive campaign gets underway. While the decision was taken to keep him out of match action, Norgaard is expected to resume full training shortly as he works his way toward full fitness.

It remains to be seen whether the midfielder will be passed fit in time to make his official Everton debut in the opening weeks of the season, but the coaching staff will be hopeful of having their new man available in the engine room as soon as possible.

So by November it'll be like a new signing.

So minor that it was missed at the medical but bad enough he couldn't undertake his employment? Still, a bargain price, eh.

And how many games did he play during his lengthy stay at Arsenal?

And some people still ask where the Arteta money is.

He can't put a time frame on when he'll be back? I don't like the sound of that.

There's a 3 week international break coming up shortly. He will be fit after that.

This is precisely what medicals were set up for, and so, I don’t get it if, in such circunstances, a club still goes ahead and splashes the cash

David this is Everton remember. We once signed a centre half who was afraid of heading the ball.

I would imagine this is a minor knock, otherwise the medical team would have knocked it back. But don't forget Peter Reid failed his medical because of his dodgy knee and only because Howard said he would take full responsibility did we sign him.

I remember Moyes saying early last season, Rohl was out with a minor injury, returned over 2 months later,

The latest in a long line of injured acquisitions that Everton are famous for signing? I seem to remember Gibson from Man Utd or was it Cleverly? But there have been many we got saddled with over the years.

Our scouting system is one of the worst. They must come up with the prospects using a list of hospitals and clinics.

They need to factor in getting the maximum bang for their bucks from the physios, Tom.

Gotta make them earn their pay.

With Tim and Jimmy out, Christian not available and Gana gone it gives a free pass for consistent early games for the Hackney/Armstrong partnership.

If they hit the ground running they just might keep the others out when they come back . . . always a silver lining.

Other options if more injuries hit those two is for KDH to drop back and Charlie play in the 10 role. Squad begining to show depth in the middle.

Tom (11) Yes Gibson was very injury prone when he was sober and got a couple more injuries after a few drinks,

Tom Cleverly came on a free after his contract was up at United, don’t know if we got a fee for him when he moved to Watford but he wasn’t injury prone although he might have been hurt the way he was treated by the Everton crowd on some occasions.

We signed Baines and Coleman when they were both injured.

Let's hope the physio's magic sponge works on the newcomers as effectively.

I would like to know exactly what the 'minor knock' is ffs, why we not told ! We really need him now!
