There we were, now here we are.

It’s been a long summer, but the Premier League is back, and so are Everton.

For our sins, we Toffees will be there, through thick and thin.

To look ahead to the 2026-27 season, here’s some predictions for Everton’s campaign.

PREMIER LEAGUE PLACE: 10TH

It’s hard to fully judge until the transfer window is closed but, as it stands, and showing Everton a bit of faith that they will address the major issues still left in the squad in some way (if not an absolutely perfect way), then I see no reason why the Toffees should not be targeting a top-half finish.

Angus Kinnear has made it clear that the target is to challenge for Europe, but that would require more investment and more quality, as well as other teams that were poor last year — such as Chelsea and Tottenham — to continue to struggle.

So, 10th it is, as part of a cluster of teams tightly packed in mid-table.

LEAGUE CUP: 4th ROUND

Everton and the League Cup just don’t mix. I do back them to improve on last season’s dismal run, which ended at the hands of a terrible Wolves team in Round 3, but I can’t see them going much further.

FA CUP: SEMI-FINALS

I’ve been braver here. David Moyes will be desperate to try and win a trophy as he aims to prove he still has it, and Everton will go for it hard in the cup.

Last season, remember, they were impacted in the 3rd Round by an injury crisis combined with the absences of Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gueye.

But I just don’t feel like this Everton team are capable of winning a trophy. So, a day out to Wembley it is, but no silverware.

PLAYER OF THE SEASON

Jarrad Branthwaite is my pick here — with the caveat that he must stay fit, of course.

But, should he stay fit, then Branthwaite really does have the talent to take this team to the next level.

He gives Everton’s defence the ability to press 10 yards further up the field, with some insurance that he is able to get back and recover if needed, and he is superb in possession. Branthwaite’s presence in both boxes will also be a huge asset at set-pieces.

Please, Jarrad, just stay fit!

YOUNG PLAYER OF THE SEASON

Harrison Armstrong is all set to start the campaign in Everton’s midfield.

Sure, he has benefitted there from injuries to James Garner and new signing Christian Nørgaard, but Armstrong has taken his chance in pre-season.

Armstrong swiftly earned Moyes’s trust last season, and now he should be aiming to cement himself in the manager’s thinking as either a starter or the first change from the bench in midfield.

It won’t be easy — there’s plenty of competition — but Armstrong has the talent.

SIGNING OF THE SEASON

Taking the obvious caveat that the transfer window is not yet over, this was still a difficult choice.

Hayden Hackney has had a positive start to his Everton stint, and I feel Brennan Johnson could prove to be a really smart acquisition.

However, I’m plumping for Nørgaard. Once he gets fit, I have no doubt he will play most games, and provide that steel and experience in the middle of the park.

At £7M, even though the Dane is 32, I’m backing him to shine.

TOP SCORER

Thierno Barry has had a really promising pre-season, and he’s my pick to top the Toffees’ scoring charts.

Don’t get me wrong, if Everton can get a striker in, they should do... but that will almost certainly rely on moving Beto out first.

But Barry has done enough to begin the season as Everton’s starting striker, and I’m backing him to build on his 8 goals from last term by netting 12 in the league.

I’ll throw in another 3 across the cup competitions, giving him a round total of 15 in all competitions, which will lead the way for Everton.

Player of the season, I think Dewsbury-Hall will have a great season, looked sharp in pre season and looked miles ahead fitness wise.

Signing of the season, Hayden Hackney, but I think Brenhen Johnson will push him close.

Have to agree with Harrison Armstrong young player of the year.

League cup, I can see Everton having a run up to the last 8 then going out on a dreaded penalty shootout.

F a cup could be our year, long overdue and hopefully with a few easy rounds we can gain momentum, all about the luck of the draw early doors.

Can see Everton getting a top 8 finish, the Brentford’s, Bournemouth’s and Brightons will have midweek European games and catch up Sunday football.

With so many teams in Europe this season, the door is open for Everton to gain an advantage in the league.

You're a lot more optimistic than me, Patrick.

Presuming the manager doesn't change... unless Moyesie wants to go out in a blaze of glory.

Then again, no... scratch that.

How on earth can you predict what we will do in the cups? There's these things called draws where balls get randomly, we hope, picked out of a sack.

Premier League: the usual 13th place.

Player of the Season: Er, erm, who the feck knows, and there are these things called injuries and surprises. And, the window has not yet closed.

Young Player of the Season: Ditto.

Signing of the Season: Dear God, the window is still open.

Top Scorer: Someone we have not yet signed.

Barry can become a one-in-three striker this season.

He needs to up his game to match Beto stats though.

A proper right-back will put us in the Top 10.

Grealish will put us 8th or 9th and a decent striker 7th or 8th.

Without those, it's 13th again.

Most commentators are putting us circa 13th or 14th.

I think that's realistic. We don't have a squad that would suggest any better.

The Athletic picks us to finish 15th.

On the other hand, they've also published an extended look into Everton's preseason preparations, excerpted here:

“It’s been one of the longest pre-seasons, because it usually takes maybe 10-14 days of hard sessions,” left-back Vitalii Mykolenko says of the Premier League returning one week later than usual after this summer’s World Cup.

“It’s already the fourth week of training. But it’s good for us. It’s tough, but there is nothing silly. Everything is for a purpose.”

The Ukrainian was speaking to The Athletic from the team’s Oschberghof training base in Germany’s Black Forest. The setting is lavish but remote, which is part of its appeal for clubs such as Everton.

This has been a much more typical Moyes pre-season, with players quickly getting up to speed and the emphasis on making sure the squad are given valuable playing time ahead of the new campaign.

There have been changes behind the scenes. Dave Reddington has joined permanently from AFC Wimbledon as a set-piece coach, a role that had been vacant since Charlie Adam’s summer 2025 departure, following a successful ‘trial’ at the end of last season.

Daniel Ransom, who worked with technical director Nick Cox at Manchester United, has been brought in as the club’s first head of performance lifestyle, a role that focuses on wellbeing, psychology and helping players achieve peak performance.

There is frustration at how last season panned out. Coaches Billy McKinlay and Leighton Baines are tasked with analysing performances and feeding back to Moyes, before he decides how to proceed.

There were some moments for down-time and team bonding over the summer.

In Germany, a group led by Jarrad Branthwaite and Nathan Patterson hit the golf course. Mykolenko and midfielder Carlos Alcaraz played padel, while ping-pong tables and a darts board were installed at the hotel. Evenings were spent playing the game Wolf, which is similar to the television show The Traitors and became a staple of England’s Euro 2024.

First-team chefs Tom Kenton and Neil Bradbury laid on a team barbecue one evening and there were trips to a local hut on site for traditional German food, including schnitzel, along with an Italian restaurant where players could choose from one of three options pre-selected by Kenton and Bradbury.

Due to the heat, which at times rose to more than 30C (86F), players were given high-carb slushies to help their recovery between sessions. Small tubs of ice cream were available on one night of the trip to aid their recovery.

Kenton and Bradbury, who worked with England at the World Cup, liaise with hotel chefs far in advance of trips, as well as head of nutrition Stephen Long. Ingredients are sourced locally by agents working for the club and hotels, but Bradbury also took produce to Germany.

Sessions are often longer and more intense than in the regular season, so there is an emphasis on refuelling. Kenton and Bradbury, who travel everywhere with the team, monitor eating habits with Long. Kenton used to challenge players to eat 500 grams of pasta, while rice pudding is a common dessert the night before matches.

Pre-season has been intense, and the sense in camp is that there is scope for tangible growth this campaign.

“We can improve in all areas,” says Mykolenko.

“I would love to play more interesting football this season. Maybe some people will say it wasn’t good enough, but for the first 30 games, we played interesting football and people enjoyed it.

“Hopefully people will want to watch this football. Because sometimes football can be boring and you don’t want to watch it.”

The 27-year-old, who signed a new long-term contract in June, believes the summer signings will help.

“Merlin is in very good form,” he says. “He can play everywhere, it’s incredible.

“Tyrique (George, who joined permanently from Chelsea for £18million after his loan) didn’t play a lot last season, but he came off the bench and he improved our team. When he goes inside, he can finish in the top corner. He’s been good this summer and hopefully will improve this season.”

He highlights Hackney, meanwhile, as the “best player in the Championship last season” and someone he hopes can also “make an impact”.

“We’re super excited, super positive,” Dewsbury-Hall said at the Men In Blazers event. “The lads have come back very sharp. We’re bubbling along nicely.

“It’s very competitive. There’s a lot of good players and that’s what you want in a squad. I’m quite confident.”

Have the older players declined/players left had more of an impact than younger playet improvement/new signings? I doubt it.

The defence is worry if we are relying on Tarkowski, Keane, Mykolenko and Patterson.

But I'd think Barry, Armstrong, George, Dibling, Rohl, Hackney, and Johnson, will have a greater impact than last season. Certainly more energy within the team, and still more signings to make.

The pundits routinely misjudge the benefit of a team collective over individual stars.

This is impossible, but with a cautious manager past his best (and the best was not great). 10th, we certainly won't be that high.

Many other teams will have improved. Forest will overtake us and possibly Leeds.

With the transfer window dealings the squad is pretty equal in terms of ability and numbers, no great injection of quality, so I think a similar league placing is on the cards.

Hopefully we'll play strong teams in the cups with the right attitude and try and break the trophy drought.

It depends what happens before deadline day. If we don't get a more reliable goalscorer, then I think we'll finish around 14th or 15th and at times, we'll be looking over our shoulder. If we improve in certain areas then I think somewhere between 8th and 11th.

It's a case of what side of the bed I get out of in how I view Everton. On the one hand, we have some good players in Garner, Dewsbury-Hall, Branthwaite, Pickford.

The recruitment of Hackney and Norgaard seem good midfield signings but how many of those have we seen in the past? Schneiderlin, Delph, Gbamin etc. etc..

George and Johnson could improve us but it depends on the former being given the opportunity and the latter showing that his spell at Crystal Palace was an anomaly.

On the other hand, I think Mykolenko, Tarkowski and Keane are nowhere near good enough to play the number of games that they will end up playing and they will cost us games. What other sides would want these three? Coventry? Hull City?

Watching Tarkowski smile because he's just got away with something or made a ricket was one of my pet hates last season. The fact that O'Brien could start the season at right-back is criminal. Barry and Beto will not take enough opportunities to get the goals we need to challenge the teams higher up the table.

My biggest concern is that we got quite a few unexpected wins last season away from home. I can't see us repeating that with this squad. That puts an onus on the home form which has been woeful for 3 or 4 seasons now.

We need to make the Hill Dickinson a bear pit and play more on the front foot to try and make that happen but that isn't Moyes's way of playing. I could see a typical slow start and people saying we need a new manager around Autumn time.

Listened to Radio Merseyside last night.

Most had us in the Top 10. A few had us going to Wembley, but only semi-final.

For Barry to be a 1-in-3 striker, that would put him in the Top 10. Not sure I agree with the Merseyside shout of 20 goals. That puts him in the Top 2 (excluding penalties).

Best Shout was "What wild suggestion"? The Premier League will not need to issue an apology to Everton for a blatantly wrong decision against them.

I couldn't work out if that was because there won't be any or whether the Premier League won't bother apart from saying -- yes, it was 115 on which they were found guilty and just got fined, but stop moaning about your points deduction and we are not sorry.
Ian Wilkins
33 Posted 20/08/2026 at 12:56:12
Yes, that's the safest prediction for the season: Man City will be found partially guilty (lost in weasel wording) and will receive a politically motivated fine only. Akin to Chelsea.

Others will huff n puff…

We will do well. I do think Europe is there for the taking. A good 6th.

League Cup: Quarter-Finals
FA Cup: Semi or win

Best Player: Ndiaye

Maybe I am optimistic in every regard but, before the slump towards the end of last season, we were up there competing for Europe. We would have learned from that.

I can see us pushing up. Problem area is right-back and a holding midfielder. We need more creativity down the middle and not be afraid to take on the opposition.
Raymond Fox
35 Posted 20/08/2026 at 12:57:28
Now then, Brian, don't wind up our Saints friends -- they had a good result in their last game and that's a top coach they have now engaged.

Patric, that's a lot of predictions. Obviously 1, 2 or 3 new signings could make a big difference to how we get on. I've seen a few picks from the BBC and others and they have us 13th to 15th, so they don't rate us that much.

I think we will do better than that, 10th to 12th is where we will probably finish and Top 10 if we could sign very good players in the positions where we are lacking.

Dewsbury-Hall as our top player and I agree with your Harrison Armstrong choice.

I've not a clue about cup results or top scorer, but I'll say both Beto and Barry combined like last season's 17 goals.

Oh, and our best signing will be Hackney -- I think there is a top player in there.

38 Posted 20/08/2026 at 13:18:17
I thought that what Angus Kinnear said was bullshit. There isn't really any magic to it -- in general, you finish where you spend.

Saying last season was a failure, then investing at our current level absolutely can't be expected to improve our position. At present, we are relying on luck and outperforming the above, eg, doing a Brentford or Brighton.

Looking at our signings, they are pretty much a gamble with no real evidence of top level Premier League performance outside of possibly Norgaard. That makes it difficult to predict where we'll come...

If the gamble pays off: Top 10; if the gamble doesn't pay off: relegation battle; average... we'll be around 13th again.

If Angus Kinnear and Friedkin are the winners they say they are and not just talking bullshit, then they are going to have to make some significant signings this week; if not, then don't be blaming Moyes or anyone else.

Mark yes totally agree. The squad which finished last season in such dire straits has barely had any improvements to it so far, couple of swaps, couple of loans, and a £16m lad from the league below.

Frankly, I don't want to know Angus's view of the squad, or of any footballing issues whatsoever, he's clueless. He needs to provide the dosh and negotiate the contracts.. That's it.
Craig Walker

Well, that's 43 more quality kitchens than quality right-backs.

I'm going for an 11th placed finish.
League Cup: 4th Round (sorry, Danny)
FA Cup: Quarterfinals
Player of the Season: Dewsbury-Hall
Young Player of the Season: Tarkowski

Our defence needs some serious attention and I'm not confident we'll get any more than a right-back.

I keep checking Goodison News in the hope we'll get a decent right-back and a striker, but they keep saying Everton are targeting wingers. I just hope a lot is going on behind the scenes.

I'd love to see a new right-back, new left-back, and a new striker (but not Delap). I'd also like O'Brien and Branthwaite to start as centre-backs and George to get the nod as a regular starter or a regular sub with proper game time.
Christy Ring
44 Posted 20/08/2026 at 15:04:07
As it stands, I'd take 15th, a fullback and striker before the window shuts and a fit Jarrad, challenging for Europe.

I tip Armstrong to shine this season.
Jonathan Oppenheimer
45 Posted 20/08/2026 at 15:16:17
I'm in the optimistic camp, provided we bring in a solid starting right-back and Branthwaite stays healthy. If those two things happen, I think we'll be Top 10. If they don't, it could get ugly.

While in a perfect world we're bringing in a new left-back and centre-back, those things are not happening. At best, we're getting someone in on loan who can back up at both right-back and left-back, but unless Aznou goes out on loan, he's our back-up left-back this season.

And maybe a striker comes in on loan, but I can't see a new one being bought, because I can't see anyone wanting to pay 10 quid for Beto. We need a couple more windows to get younger at centre-back.

My optimism stems from a belief in George, Dibling and Johnson getting at least 10 goals between them. George and Armstrong will really kick on this season, and Hackney, Rohl and Norgaard will all strengthen our central midfield, which is where matches are often controlled, won or lost.

Barry is a wildcard: I'd written him off by last season, but I'll grudgingly acknowledge he seems to have shown signs of life.

Useless and likely entirely wrong prediction: finish 8th, semi-final cup run of some sort, Ndiaye (if he's with us) to have a monster season to earn his £75M move next summer. Moyes to win over some detractors (including myself) and ride off into the sunset.

What's the fun in being a fan without some optimism before a ball has been kicked?
Stu Darlington
46 Posted 20/08/2026 at 15:22:09
Our defence last season was a big problem. It will be better now we've got Branthwaite back but, if he has any injury relapses, we will be in real trouble. Another problem is we don't score enough goals. Put these two together and it doesn't look good for a top-half finish.

George and Johnson plus an improved Barry and a more attack-minded midfield may improve our Goals For column but I'm not holding my breath.

I think we need two full-backs, another centre-back, and a goalscorer to be anywhere near competitive in either the league or cup competitions

So my predictions would be, with the right additions: 8th - 10th; without: 13th - 14th.

By the way, does anyone know how to stop Saints supporters whingeing?

The sad thing about this season upcoming with the transfer window close to ending is we have still got the same problem as previous seasons and that is no right-back, no consistent goalscorer, and if that is not bad enough, we now have a manger whose tactics are no different from his previous time with Everton.

As much as we dislike it, we are a mid-table team with a mid-table organization, with the most loyal supporters in the country, and owners who believe other people they have hired are good enough to improve the club as they do a flyby.

Ownership of a club is the most responsible position there is and our present owners have to take more responsibility on what is going on in the club other than relying on other people. You want a winning team, you hire winning people -- not survivalists.

Best post on this thread is what Mark @38 has written.

The saddest and most poignant question is definitely the one that Jonathan has asked in the post above Mark @37, in his final sentence.

The football season starts in 2 days and I'm already completely bored with Everton. I used to spend all summer looking forward to the opening day of the season, and now I can't even be bothered downloading my season tickets onto the phone.

Hopefully things change. Moyes usually produces better results in the face of adversity. This time next week we might even have a new right-back, after the most thorough and studious research that any recruitment team has ever undertaken since Denise Barrett-Baxendale implemented her 25-point plan.

53 Posted 20/08/2026 at 16:31:55
I should add, Tony, that it's easier in some strange way for me to be optimistic, because I've never known anything but below-average as an Evertonian. It feels like there's only one way to go from here, now that we're seemingly spared from relegation fears.

I can relate to feeling quite bored supporting my hometown team, Minnesota United, who have been solidly mid-upper tier for several years and now have nothing exciting to offer, can't score goals, give up bad goals, deficiencies all over the place. It's all relative, of course.

Surely a step back from last season for me would be quite depressing, but if it's a step up, like I foresee, then it will be the best we've seen in about a decade, and that's a good thing.

Obviously the football has to be enjoyable to watch, too, and the home form improved, but my hope is those two things will help renew your joy this coming season.

Neither of our two biggest weaknesses have been addressed.

We score very few goals from open play. We struggle to defend from set pieces.

I have no faith in the set piece coach (Dave Reddington) who has just had his contract renewed -- although he had to be an improvement on Charlie Adam whose only claim to fame was he slept on Moyes's couch for a few months.

Unless we get a proven goalscorer (Richarlison?) and a top-quality right-back (????), we will struggle to finish in the Top 10.

If we address those issues and keep Branthwaite fit, we may get 8th but only if Villa, Newcastle, Brighton, Brentford, Sunderland and Bournemouth have a downturn.

I think the top 6 are unassailable: Arsenal, Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs -- Oh how I hate to call them the Top 6 but, with the acquisitions they have made...

Then there are questions over Leeds, Forest, Fulham and Palace who I would hope finish below us.

Ipswich bought a number of players we were linked with: Maeda, Fatawu etc, so may make a fist of survival but I think Coventry and Hull are set to go straight back down.

Come on, Angus, be a man of your word and get us a right-back and a goalscorer.

Craig @ 52.

One thing guaranteed for this season is that rule plus those on overturning throw-ins, turning goal kicks into corners, subs being delayed entering play for players who take too long to come off, and injured players leaving the field for a minute will all be used to the advantage of a select band of teams.

Kinnear's interviews this week were a piss-take.

TFG did not invest enough in the squad during the 2025-26 season to make Europe a serious consideration. Going into December, we had £40M+ PSR headroom but the owners decided to take that out of the club through the dividend payment to themselves. The manager needed reinforcements in defence to push on and he got a young winger on loan.

Therefore to brand last season as a failure because we didn't reach Europe is disingenuous. They failed to invest in the squad to reach Europe, then called the season a failure because we didn't reach Europe.

TFG have also not invested sufficiently in this summer's transfer window to move the dial either. No wonder Moyes has been sulking all summer.

For all his limitations, Moyes cops the blame and basically is left to see out the last year of his contract. It is really annoying that they are making me feel sorry for him.

11th if it goes okay based on the current squad.

New owners and new stadium and I would have thought new ambitions and delivering a team on the pitch that will compete with the Top 6... but I just cannot see it.

We will finish somewhere between 8th and 14th with the current squad. My concerns are Tarkowski and Keane as an old-guard central defencive partnership.

I would rather see Branthwaite partnered by another young central defender with pace. Get the right-back that we need, a couple of more players in that Moyes wants, and Delap as a striker, and we may make the Top 6.

Good luck and enjoy the new season.

Talk about a piss-take. Steve Brown's obsession that the dividend emptied our transfer coffers and impacted our PSR is the pissiest take of all.

To speak with such "authority" absent any understanding of the difference between revenues (from which PSR/SCR limits are calculated) and retained earnings (from whence dividends are distributed) is truly farcical.

But people are gonna believe what they're gonna believe.

Not jumping in the middle but we're we not allowed, due to the rules, to spend the £40M on players, Mike?

I'd love to know where some supporters think we might be if TFG didn't show any interest in Everton and had not bought us at all?

Instead of being 2 years into a 5-year plan and probably consolidating our Premier League position whilst building a squad of players to try to compete, maybe we'd have been better off in the clutches of those football experts 777 Partners, or the charlatan John Textor???

I know 'patience' isn't in Evertonians' vocabulary, including mine. Nothing's perfect, but it could be a thousand times worse. We're solid, steady and boring -- just like David Moyes.

Personally, I was encouraged by Angus Kinnear's interviews which put a different complexion on things.

Two important assurances came out of his mouth:

1. TFG want a sustainable successful Everton team and are building towards that and wish to avoid the issues that Villa and Newcastle have encountered by having to sell their best players after a season of relative success.

2. We will get a quality right-back and one or two others before the window closes.

Now if that doesn't come to pass, I will be as mad as every other Evertonian, but for now I am prepared to park my impatience.

I think:

Premier League: 8th
League Cup: 5th Round
FA Cup: 6th Round

Player of the Season: Dewsbury-Hall
Young Player of the Season: Dibling
Top scorer: Barry
Signing of the Season: George

Moyes tends to be at his best when his back is to the wall.

Everton easily top half. Pickford definite Player of the Season.

Johnson is the only really class player brought in — he got 19 goals in a season at Spurs and scored the winner in a Europa League Final... could be a steal.

The two cups… lucky dip on them, no Everton fan could say what team Dithering Dave will put out.

Young Player of the Season can only be Armstrong. Top scorer? We could have four on similar stats: Barry, Ndiaye, Dewsbury-Hall, and Beto.

And finally — who cares how many kitchens???

It's so hard to call. I don't think our signings so far move the dial significantly, at best we have a squad equal to last season after losing Gueye and Grealish.

Of course the younger players have progressed but it remains to be seen if they're going to play. I think Kinnear's comments are softening us up for failure to get our remaining targets with just 11 days to go. 11 days!!

If we lose to Palace, I can see a painful start to the season continuing on from our dreadful form ending last season. I'm not optimistic, I can see us jettisoning the cups to ensure survival in the Premier League. I predict 15th, hope I'm wrong.

The betting for the game Saturday is 6/5 Everton, 9/4 Palace & 9/4 a Draw approx, odds. Lets hope we can get the season off on the right foot.

Mike@59, I’ve read Steve’s post three times and I can’t read him saying anything like what you’re actually trying to say that he has said.

I just think Steve is stating absolute facts when he says that when Moyes, needed financial backing last January, our new owners were more interested in putting a little bit of what you describe as pocket change, back into their own bank accounts.

I’ve just read it again for the fourth time and it still looks like Steve, is defending or even starting to feel sorry for Moyes, because he wasn’t backed by the owners in January, and he hasn’t been backed enough in this window either, up-to now.

Hopefully things change Mike, because your defence of the silent friedkin’s, is becoming tiresome. I’m serious, I hope you’re laughing at us miserable, moaning, sour-balled bastards in a couple of years mate, because nothing would give me more pleasure than watching thousands of Evertonians, celebrating us winning a trophy.

My biggest wish for Everton, is that Mike Gaynes, is going to be proved right, although this is currently very debatable because you’re taking every bit of stick that our owners are getting, personally, and I honestly think it’s impossible to defend them against some of the stick, they’re currently receiving, imo mate.

You claim you were a journalist, so apply critical reasoning. Just a little bit - maybe start by telling us what Everton’s 2025-26 PSR head room was after the net losses in 2023-24 and 2024-26?

He did seem to be saying at that point that we are targeting players whose "prime position" is right back. That seems to suggest that Ben White is not a target.

He also said that they are looking at a number of positions.

I can't help myself - I am hoping for a good win against Palace followed by a big week in the transfer market.

Steve (#84), whilst I wouldn't insult Mr Gaynes by citing him as "Trumpian", because he clearly isn't, he does always project Friedkin as a billionaire benefactor to us with hitherto sod all benefit to the squad, much as Trump might do in relying on the likes of barking-mad crawlers to impose his utterly bent "leadership" on the rest of the world, to his own personal financial advantage, and fuck the morons who all but religiously support him day in day out.

I genuinely don't see Toffee fans as being akin to MAGA imbeciles, or Friedkin fans, but the reality right now unfolding in front of us in terms of signings is redolent to the core of the situation we've plunged into ever since the (bent) Premier League was established.

And Friedkin endorses that, obviously.

91 Posted 21/08/2026 at 04:55:22
Don @ 87, I am not insulting him simply reflecting how he is projecting himself.

2023/24 net losses - £53.2 million
2024/25 losses - £8.6 million
2025/26 potential headroom excluding revenue increase - £43.2 million
2025/26 commercial revenue - £265 million (up from 195 million).
Dividend payment to Roundhouse - £44 million.

If there were additional costs basis net profit and loss in player trading, for example, the additional revenue addressed them.

It is really simple maths, unless the premise is that the dividend payment was included in the P&L. We'll see when the final accounts are published.

Last season I was surprised we finished as low as 13th. Moyes has made a career out of lowered expectations and then exceeding them in the league.

I think he does that by forsaking the cups, not deliberately but as a consequence.

It a numbers game - pick a team of players who you trust and stick by them. They'll get to know each other's game inside out and as a result will be able to pick up more unexpected points.

The problem comes when trying to rest players for early cup games - the squad players aren't integrated and performances are disjointed and the early exits happen.

The other problem, and I could be wrong about this, I don't recall Moyes teams ever finishing strongly. Last season was particularly bad, but I think his teams drop off because those favourite players are more tired than other teams who use more of a squad based approach. This also impacts his teams if they get a bit further in the cup.

I fully expect us to be touching top 6, maybe even winking at top 4, before trailing off and maybe getting anywhere between 6th and 10th.

We won't do well in cups, the squad is too small and the trusted players even smaller and older.

In George I think we have a gem - I hope he gets into the trusted zone. He'd be my pick of young player and signing (if he counts).

I'm not optimistic we'll win anything, but we'll have a run of decent games in the league and because teams have European football.

Spurs will finish above us.

Forest will do the double over us.

We won't beat one of the Sky clubs.

I’m not one for American politics Don, but I thought Jon Ossoff, gave a very good and honest description of Donald Trump, the other day.

The internet is responsible for a lot of unrest, but one thing that it has clearly shown us is that most Politicians, are completely untrustworthy, corrupt and vile, imho.

Trump, reminds me of Frank Underwood, just like the current Everton Football Club, remind me of Coventry City, in the seventies and eighties. (Minus that solitary fa cup victory) A club that just seem to be very happy that they’re playing in the top league, even though a look at the history books (real history books, that don’t tell lies, or can’t be spinned) tells us that no other club has played more top-flight games.

A few signings in the last 10 days of the transfer window that make our optimism worthwhile and that will keep us happy ‘til we can shout “ Free at last, Free at last, Free at last” when finally Moyes exits the club.

Leverage - Laurie? These multi billionaires, definitely know how to play the game mate. Dip into their pot for a little bit of pocket change and watch their investment grow.

Money = power = the ability to carry a huge amount of corrupt politicians in their pockets like “Nickels & Dimes”

Trump, might be a protector of some of the most rotten people on the planet but, when the alternative is probably death, “sleeping with the devil” comes to mind.

Anyway the premier league starts tomorrow, so I’m going to drive past our stadium this morning to see if it can get a bit of blood pumping through my blue veins…. Hopefully it works and I can belt out our song, singing, - “we shall not be moved - Coventry🙈”

Tony A @ 76,

You are right that I am beginning to feel sorry for Moyes. This is annoying as I don't rate him at all.

Mike's narrow defence of TFG on the impact of the dividend payment on 2025/26 expenditure is based on that the fact that it is not reflected in the P&L. It appears as a short-term liability on the balance sheet.

However, anyone has run a P&L will know that the state of the balance sheet directly impacts the P&L statement. While they measure different things - the balance sheet is a snapshot of financial position, and the P&L measures performance over time - they are both considered when making spending decisions.

TFG had headroom under PSR for the 2025/26 season before the increase in revenue of 70 million is factored in. But reality is, they likely still had spending headroom in January based on revenue generation after the dividend payment.

Honestly, I find Kinnear's argument that last season was a failure because we never reached Europe to be false. TFG did not back Moyes in a serious way to make a push from January onwards. Based on spending so far this summer, he is also not being backed in a serious way to push for Europe in 2026/27season, but Kinnear is talking it up as a real aim.

Of course, if they spend 50-100 million over the next 11 days we can all reconsider and go back to blaming Moyes when results don't match the investment. But at the moment, he is being lined up as scapegoat in chief if we don't make a good start.
Tony Abrahams
102 Posted 21/08/2026 at 11:39:48
I also don’t particularly like David Moyes, Steve, but I tend to agree with what you’re saying.

I’m not as aware of the financial implications as much as people like yourself, but the real reason I questioned Mike, is because whatever else TSF, did with their money last January, they never backed Moyes, and my own view is that I don’t believe it was because of PSR, and it’s not something that I thought you was saying either in that particular post.

One of the reasons that I think there are a lot of very unsuccessful football clubs, (I could list a few reasons) is because of deflection.

Not enough people are prepared to take real accountability for their actions, and if Moyes, ends up being the scapegoat, it won’t be lost on myself why he became the scapegoat, and this will just drive me to the conclusion that Everton, are still not enough of a professional outfit, in the area that it’s needed the most.

Dale @74.

I think you probably still go to school and pinch your dad's ciggies. Youv'e never put a post up with any sense to it.

My post, I think pretty much any Evertonian with a brain would not diagree with: Pickford won it 4 out of the last 5 years. Johnson... well, he is a class act compared to what we've been buying for the last 10 seasons.

The cups are a lottery for all Everton fans because we don't know what team is going to play. Armstrong will walk the Young Player of the Season award simply because he will play a lot more than George or Dibling or any other young pretender.

Goal scorers -- I've named four... I possibly could've also put Johnson in there as I expect them all to score between 6 and 10. With a bit of luck, Barry, might get more -- that will depend on if the fans leave him alone.

Finally, I think we will get at least 10 more points than last season, so that will get us Top 8.

I've made it a bit more simple for you to read, Dale. UTFT -- no more depression from you, Dale.

Seems like a lot of apathy doing the rounds. Uninspiring window so far, World Cup still in the rear view mirror and Moyes’s dummy still out the cot. Not much to get excited about. I see us between 11th and 13th. However, judging by Kinnear’s words, a poor start to the season could see Moyes under pressure - particularly if he persists with his uninspiring use of the wider squad and his limited in-game subs. Would I feel sorry for him if he was sacked? Are you kidding? He’s paid massive amounts of money to do a relatively straightforward job and would get a huge pay off if he went. He should be inspiring the fans by talking up our chances, that itself could be worth a few points over the season, instead he’s clearly not happy with something behind the scenes. Disappointing leadership.

Jimmy @104.

I'm not a Moyes man either but I will tell you the only people who talk themselves up are normally people who know they're going to win or be amongst it (team or individual).

You're speaking as a fan but I've been on the other side of the fence and it's not like you think. Moyes will never hang himself, and as I said a few weeks ago, we have to go with him hoping they kick on. In my opinion, I think we have our best squad for a long time.

Plus they say we might get a few more in. I hope it's quality, not quantity. Keep the faith -- we won't be 11th to 13th, we will be much higher. Stats don't lie, Jimmy.

Good luck to the Toffees tomorrow.

I'm annoyed by this:

Everton supporter my whole life with lots of Spurs fans in my school. We have a better stadium, owners as rich as them, but can't attract any players. Why? Moyes.

You hear the Spurs signings talk about de Zerbi and his passion. Who is going to say that about the Moyes sales pitch?

"Okay, I want you to run around and we'll hoof it your way from time to time. If you don't score or assist, I'll cry about it to the papers after that game."

And a positive -- Merlin Rohl is a gangster.
