Gueye seals loan return to France

Fringe player Magaye Gueye has completed a deadline-day move back to France on loan with Stade Brest until the end of the season.

The 22 year-old forward has been unable to break into the Blues' first team on a consistent basis and was allowed to return to Ligue 1 when the French side with a deal sealed just before the 11pm deadline.

"Stade Brest 29 has obtained the loan for six months without a purchase option of Everton's Franco-Senegalese striker Magaye Gueye," read a statement released on the French club's official website.

Unofficial sources in France reported that Brest would have the option to make the transfer permanent in the summer if the ex-Strasbourg man impresses.

A complete waste of however much money we paid for him. Never got a run upfront and didn't offer anything outwide.

Bit harsh James - we paid like £900k and he filled a void here and there

Big shame though as I hoped this was some masterstroke after the "secret weapon" business

I hope there isn't an option to buy at the end of the loan, he always seemed as though he needed a decent run of games, hopefully he'll get that while out on loan and come back with a confidence boost and be looking to push Pienarr next year.

A waste of space and won't be missed. Awful player.

On the positive side we need a real right back to replace Hibbo. Coleman is at best cover for the right hand side. Great oppurtunity for Barkley?

I love him. Hasn't had a great season but has had a lot of bad luck with injuries. Keep him for another season, if it doesn't work out get rid. This loan will do him a world of good, first team football on a regular basis.

The lad isn't a winger. Don't get angry at him playing out of position, something Moyes is notorious for doing. He has the touch and vision of a playmaker and never really got a go there.

Give him a chance, see how the loan goes.

He had one half decent game at Sunderland and that was it, looked unfit, overweight and ten yards behind play every time I saw him, yet Moyes fancied him over other lads as he's been coming on as sub,yet he now let's him go like him or not we are a man down now, he was one of the few attack minded options we had to put on the bench even though he was shite, so it will now mean an extra defender on the bench unless he brings Barkley back.

He never really looked comfortable in the side, maybe because he was played out of position. No offence to the lad but I doubt anyone is really bothered he isn't in our squad any more.

If I'm being honest, although he wasn't great he wasn't that bad either. When he did get a chance he was always a solid enough performer, neat n tidy, did have a bit of vision for a through ball and wasn't afraid to shoot.

I think he probably suffered from Moyes 'secret weapon' comment. We all thought Moyes must have seen something in training, this kid must have something special! somewhere! Unfortunately all we saw was a Left winger with no real pace and no real ability to beat a man one on one ( don't think he was a winger by the way ).

I feel a bit sorry for him, when he did get a rare chance he didn't let us down, he just didn't set the world on fire, (he did score a belter once though didnt he?) then he was out the side again.

I wish him all the best, he was never going to get a proper chance at EFC anyway.

Not that pleased to see him go, as regardless of whether you like him or not he has featured a bit for the first team and we hardly have bodies to spare in our quest for a high place in the table. Our lack of Jan transfer activity means the only players we should be loaning out are some of the young ones who won't get a sniff of a game between now and the end of the season. Gueye did seem to be in Moyes' plans to some extent, even if he was a long way from being an automatic starter. So anything that depletes our numbers isn't good.

Makes you wonder why Mastermind Moyes played him last week in the Cup.

Gueye never looks as though he can't put himself about on the football field. That's his major weakness. Anichebe looked that way also, until he realised he had to put a shift in to come alive on the football field. I don't believe Gueye can change and I see the loan move as one step closer to leaving Everton at the end of the season. That could be the plan, anyway.

There's probably not one Evertonian who would see Gueye as a more useful squad player now or in the future than Barkley. Yet Moyes has preferred him to Barkley on the bench. But now he gives him away. Somewhat perplexing.

Ironic that the best thing Gueye has ever done in a blue shirt - his great shot against the crossbar at Bolton - was probably also his last.

Didnt really seem to offer much, then again spent most of the time on the bench. Could not have been great only coming on for a few minutes here and there. Jury is still out but hopefully a run of regular games will do him good some.

Always got the impression that a lack of confidence was a big issue. Whenever he got the ball he'd to look to get rid of it quick with a simple sideways or backward pass - never threatened to do anything nor offer himself up for the pass.

Not sure if the real problem was lack of quality, lack of confidence, playing out of position, or a combination of all three. Still he's not going to gain anything keeping the bench warm so loan out good for all parties.

"Moyes has preferred him to Barkley on the bench. But now he gives him away. Somewhat perplexing"

My thoughts exactly. Why use him as a sub recently if the thought was to farm him out? Surely Oveido or Barkley would have been better options.

Perplexing indeed.

Seem him for reserves a few times when he looked very handy behind the striker. He's definitely not a winger though. Think a loan away is a good idea, either with a view to selling him or to improve his current game.

Sam interesting comment. Just looking at him play he looked more suited to that role and he had an eye for a through pass. Never given a chance by moyes to play there so we'll never know if he could have done a job there. I wonder if he's done this to give Kennedy more of an opportunity to figure?

We certainly have no problems loaning OUT or transferring OUT ????????

We have Oviedo to provide cover on the left and what I have seen of both would suggest Bryan is better player. Hope Gueye does well for himself as he was patient while he waited his chance in the wings and looked for a time like he might make it.

He's not good enough for us at the end of the day. A ball played to Magaye will be nicely controlled and passed backwards, and he was incredibly static.

If we save a bit of cash until the end of the season and recoup his modest transfer fee then I will be happy.

Same issue as Bilyaletdinov. Needs to play in the centre but was never going to get a run in the team there. I hope he does well at Brest and can make a case for coming back and playing in his preferred role, but as long as Fellaini is there (and before him Cahill) there is little scope for establishing himself.

He's had his chance I think. Basically not good enough for Everton. He needs to move on. Moyes interview seemed like he would have kept him as cover had he been committed, but the lad wanted away and Moyes didn't see enough in him to keep him against his will; which I agree with. We'll have to look to the youngsters instead e.g. Kennedy, McAleny etc, maybe recall Barkley sooner rather than later especially if we get a cup run going ...

Not good enough, and nowhere near as good as Oviedo. That's all.

Was it the Leyton Orient game? He stole in unmarked from a cross and buried a sweet volley in the back of the net and of course the shot that hit the bar at Bolton. He was in the middle of the park and showed some ability. The reward is back to the bench and farmed out on loan. Never given a chance, hope the kid does well out on loan.

These kids are our future seeing we have no money. Ive said it before and will say it again Moyes tenure at Everton is up and he needs a new challenge, hopefully Chelsea will come in for him and we will really see how capable the man is. He can take the big fella with him and we keep Baines.

They have an option to buy if he impresses - that surely means we are getting him back in summer.

Gueye actually has a good first touch and pinpoint accuracy in passing I've watched him in the Reserves a few times where he has even played in Midfield however he never seems to look interested I don't really think he is happy at the club so a break may do him good.

He always looked scared he would make the wrong pass or make the wrong decision which is why I think he never looked confident and the use of the ball was usually safety first.
I hope he gets a chance to play up front and develops his natural ability and has a cracking career. Never going to get a run with us so I wish him all the best.

It is important that our oldest youngsters get regular playing time. I applaud Moyes for loaning Gueye out, but both Vellios and McAleny are stuck in the reserves so they need to play regular football too.

Gueye is a perfect example of how Moyes destroys talents. Moyes needs to understand that this club will stagnate unless he starts playing some of his best youngsters regularly.

Personally, I do not rate Gueye very much, and think he should be sold; Kennedy looks to be better then Gueye right now.

Barkley has stagnated in his development, just as Vellios, McAleny, Gueye and Junior. Only Barkley is getting what he needs, while the rest are rotting in the reserves and getting worse each year because of it.

I think both Barkley and Vellios and the two closet to breaking through in the first team, but Moyes will have to start playing them very soon or they will suffer the same destiny as Gueye has. Gueye is not a left midfielder, he is a central attacking midfielder.

Jimmy #183 They are not good enough and even when loaned out they are not headliners.

Gueye was making up the bench numbers as Barkley was and even Kennedy has been on the bench.
We do not have good enough subs and thats why our squad is so poor.

We have a pretty decent first eleven when all are fit and thats about it.
If Heitinga is an example as a first choice sub then you can see our predicament.
We got stuffed at Leeds when we tried to play with changes.
