He must be given a chance as first choice from the bench if a defender is injured

Saying that, Duffy was the best man on the pitch when he played last season. Solid to the last.

Don't want to start a big political fracas or anything, but is it contentious as to whether you say Republic of Ireland or Eire?

Laugh Out Loud. Agree completely.
In the same vein, I see that "Caledonia" beat Estonia last night and "Albion" beat Brazil.
Anyone know the obsolete name for Wales, and we will have a full set?

Whatever about young Duffy getting a run-out this weekend against Man Utd it would simply never happen with Moyes. But certainly I did find myself thinking this kid has, one Johnny Heitinga on this seasons form. He can be a bit impetuous but no problems on strength or pace or indeed aerial ability . Was it Scunthorpe he was loaned out to recently, can't remember for sure but he got good reviews. It would be REFRESHING to see one first eleven without the Pip, Naismith duo, and Duffy and Barkley in their stead before the end of the season. Hell after this January's smoke and mirrors maybe necessary.

Cambria is the missing one.

Now you've only confused two different languages namely Latin and Gealic and gone and mixed up your respective countries. Another spanner in the works, the Gealic for Scotland is Albain or Alba.
You are aware Liam is a gealic name yes? Are you therefore by default obsolete also?

It's difficult for any manager in the Premier league to blood a young inexperienced 'promising' centre back, as mistakes made can be very costly, especially as we are trying to get into a CL place.
Apart from last week's costly defensive clangers, there was an even worse horrendous JH 'schoolboy defending' ball watching error in the 2nd half of the away match at Newcastle, but fortunately Ameobi mysteriously miskicked with the goal at his mercy.
One of the Irish papers suggested that Duffy was hoping to go out on Loan soon a la Ross Barkley.

Funny that this was suggested by Trappatoni to help him get into the senior Ireland team. Same suggestion he made to Darron Gibson, who moved to regular first team football at Everton and was chosen for the Euro squad. He didn't get one second of game time at the Euros and was passed over as substitute in the last game in favour of Paul Green, who was unattached at the time, having been let go by Derby. OUCH Also passed over for a starting position in all games in favour of Glenn Whelan of Stoke. OUCH again.
Trappatoni says today that Gibson will not be welcomed back any time soon as he doesn't have the passion for the green jersey. Good news for Everton as he works his way back to fitness.

The Welsh and Gealic for England is very similiar, can't be sure of the Welsh spelling or pronunciation but in Gealic it's Sasana or Saxonland.

Was hoping for a fuller analysis of Duffy's game and whether he was able to contain a mobile striker, etc.
If Eire is current and interchangeable with (Republic of) Ireland why do some people think it is obsolete? I was always told it was the proper name, with Erin being a poetic variant.
