Everton's Champions League bid is still realistic, says David Moyes

"I don't think this season is ever over because I think there's always something to play for. Your league position in the Premier League carries such a value to it. But the fact of the matter is we are realistically still playing for a place hopefully in the Champions League and we're still trying to play for a place in a final at Wembley, and that's where we are today."

I suppose he is right, it just feels to be slipping away that's all.

This is where I roughly thought we would be so maybe I shouldn't feel too despondent.

If only we could get Jelavic firing on all cylinders again!

You're right, Paul. Jelavic needs to start banging them in. If we could just snatch three points at the Emirates and/or White Hart Lane...

Isn't it nice, though, to be talking about Europe and the FA Cup, instead of shitting ourselves in case one of our relegation rivals picks up a few points?

Carl, can you inform us all when was the last time we were realistically looking over our shoulders worrying about our 'relegation' rivals? I think some posters are stuck in a sort of time warp. If anyone criticises the club for not matching past glories we are told that it is 'mythical' and we should live in the present, if we moan about the team not looking as if they can win the race for CL we have posters like yourself saying how good it is not being in a relegation dog-fight.

Good point Patrick. If anyone tries to make comparisons with the team of the 80s, or any part of our past, we get 'it's history' etc, but, as soon as someone dare have a pop at Moyes, these same people keep refering back to Walker, Smith.

Brian, It's the same mythology that has Moyes as the most impoverished manager Everton have had.

Perhaps it's easy to forget that in the dark days before he turned things 'round in the 1980's, Kendall was so stripped for transfer funds that the Board seriously considered selling Bellefield to raise some extra cash for him. Even when the club were nicknamed the Mersey Millionaires, all those interest-free loans from Moores still all had to be repaid.

Of course, one benefit of the club getting interest free loans from the Board is the level of debt doesn't spiral with all the interest charges that get piled on top – but then I suppose it's more important to our current Board to be earning that money on their wealth for themselves. I do wonder why these businessmen want to be an the Board of Everton when they seem to have little interest in developing it as a successful business.

Dennis – a great point. We can all argue for ever about how good Moyes is and who could do better but what is not up for argument is what the fuck are these guys doing on the Board? It's a fucking disgrace and nothing will change till we get new blood there and NOT in the manager's seat.
