Fellaini: 'My destiny is with Everton'

Belgian insists Moyes's move changes nothing for him
Marouane Fellaini appears to have pledged his immediate future to Everton by saying that David Moyes's departure for Manchester United does not change anything for him as far as the Blues are concerned.

“Honestly, the departure of the coach does not change," the Belgian international is quoted as saying in The Mirror. "He received a good challenge and I understand that he has accepted."

Fellaini is aware of the paper talk about him joining Moyes at Old Trafford but he denies there is anything more to it.

“He (Moyes) never told me about his project to take me with him to United. It is only in the press that I read it.

"My destiny is with Everton," the 25 year-old continues, although through the language barrier he seems to be talking about his short-term future. “After that, you never know what can happen, but we still speak of one of the greatest English clubs."

“The framework and the basics are there. It is in this sense that I mean the departure of the coach does not change anything for me.

“Despite everything he has done for the club, we always have enough quality to continue to shine."

Speculation that one of Chelsea or United will trigger his reported £24m release clause will still persist and, indeed, ramp up this summer even after Everton's managerial situation is resolved but Blues fans will be heartened to hear that Fellaini isn't looking for an immediate exit despite his dreams of playing in the Champions League.

"The departure of the coach does not change anything for me"
Hang on a minute Felli, surely we will be fighting relegation now that the only manager in the world capable of managing Everton has left us.Imminent doom is about to happen.Yourself and the other top notch players we have will surely melt and turn into poor players overnight.
Yep it's the bottom half of the table for us this season.

Great news (if true). Let's just buy a top striker and play Fella in his true position now.

Normally he has been 'mis-represented' when linked to comments that he might leave. As with most modern footballers there is no real loyalty - not akin to what we as fans feel.

So don't be shocked when he's stood holding a Chelsea scarf smiling beside Mourinho on your back pages in a couple of weeks saying "My destiny has always been with Chelsea" (United, City, et al).

Stays or goes it doesn't matter, we still should sign McCarthy from Wigan.

He was excellent again last night

Yep, simple logic get a decent striker, put him in his natural position next to Gibson. Two more midfielders... Osman as sub, then I think this team will rock.

You know it finally makes sense, Kenwright. So sell your shares... Use all the TV money... Whatever!!!

"My destiny is with Everton," the 25 year-old continues

When questioned by the Mirror about these comments after signing a multi million pound contract with Manchester United Fellaini said, (through an interpreter)

"Yes, my destiny was at Everton. I was there when this offer was made. So yes I right."

He then went on, with perfect timing, to hold the Manchester United scarf over his unique head with David Moyes' beaming away just to his right.

You's are a cynical bunch :) I assumed he meant he has hope for Everton and looks forward to seeing how the next season pans out.

The one thing I credit Moyes with is getting the players to feel like a close bunch of mates ( family ). It might be the one thing that stopped / stops some of our better players moving on. There is definitely a feel good vibe at Finch Farm.

Love the big Belgian, hope he stays, Mirallas too. Johnny can go and best of luck to him. Might as well see if Naismith can improve this season and Jelavic.

Thinking ahead, a keeper must be the absolute priority, if Mucha goes we have nobody but Howard !

Peter I think one major factors that stopped/ stops some of our better players moving on, someone actually has to come in and try and buy them in the first place.

aka... no offers, not even a whispered tap up on International duty, but it's early doors ( or whatever the Belg. equiv. is ) so I'll keep on making the right 'good pro' noises. We'd miss not having the 24M+ more than we'd miss him.
Daniel Lawrence
14 Posted 30/05/2013 at 08:40:51
Seeing as Moyes is still Everton's manager, you'd hope he hadn't tapped him up....

BTW, loved the 'waffle' quote. Surprised the press hasn't gone with Belgian Waffle. Suppose though that this wouldn't fit with the relentless effort to move any threat to the top 4 away from their clubs.

I would like to believe him, but to do that I would have to believe in two thing, firstly that he is consistent, and secondly that he knows what he himself is saying. Neither pass.
I half hope he stays, but
If Chelsea made an offer for sure he would jump.
Lets home Kenwright is dumb enough to let this guy go into his final contract year.
Oscar Johnathan
17 Posted 30/05/2013 at 10:04:16
Seems like he wants another year with us. If we can get him to sign a contract extension and then sell him next year if he has another good season, the club would greatly benefit. Get rid of the release clause and view the contract not as a commitment to the club, but a method of making as much money as possible when he eventually skips camp.

Anyway, good to see a story about Fellaini committing rather than dreaming of the CL for once.

I'd like to try and get £30m for him while we can.

Then sign McCarthy - he was class last night, and wouldn't cost £30m. Maybe £12m. We can use the rest to buy a striker.

Also will need to replace Heitinga with another back-up centre-half.

Fer still wants come in as well. Try playing through that centre midfield as opposed to Neville and Osman. The new manager will have a good back 4 with two patrick vieiras in front of them. I can't wait for next season a striker and winger and we will be flying

If fellaini stays then I don't see how the new manager will have any funds at all for new players. I think £25m may be more valuable to us than the big fella.

As for James McCarthy he looks a solid, busy player but at a likely 12m or more I think there may be better value elsewhere. Kevin strootman or Christian eriksen for example.

May as well forget everything ever quoted by any player.. ever! In all honesty I'd be happy if we could get £24m+ early in the transfer window, so the new manager (whoever it may be) can bring in 2 or 3 first teamers. Johnny will be off (so long as someone wants him!), so £30m or thereabouts should be available...

... depending on how much Bill / The Bank pocket.

Eugene Ruane
35 Posted 30/05/2013 at 12:35:38
God knows what he means, could be him just being polite when caught cold.

I'll throw in a theory though.

NOT one I think is true or a fact - just an outside possibility.

Ok, when Moyes left he spoke of his special feelings for Everton.

Though he is a professional and will want to do his best for Utd, I don't doubt his affection (or whatever you want to call it) for us.

(my view on that could change depending on his actions re our players)

Consequently, even though I don't believe anything could or would have been signed saying 'stay away', this is what he may (and I hope he has) have decided himself.

If there WAS any truth to this (nb: lot of 'ifs' and remember, it's just an idle theory) and our players got wind of it, then it might be smart to give it a bit of "I'm very happy here" - at least until such a time as circumstances change.

Especially when nobody has actually ever put a bid in.

I'll end as I started - God knows what he means.

And so the speculation for the Summer now starts. Fella with last season's form is the prized asset and there will be enquiries and propaganda spread by his agent as well as other players.
At the right fee I am sure Kenright will sell Fella. It's all about god business for the player and the club. The word loyalty is a thing of the past. Perhaps Everton can swap Fella for Rooney?
It was the season before last when the rumours circulated about Moyes taking over from Fergie and they turned out to be true and no matter what Fella is saying now I am sure he has eyes on Champions league and more.
Matt Traynor
37 Posted 30/05/2013 at 13:03:56
Eugene, #910 - plausible, and there was something posted under "rumour mill" to that effect. But it's all a load of shite anyway. Players, or rather their agents, hold all the aces.

If such an agreement did exist, it'd probably have a clause saying he could bid if any other team came in. Then just get one of his mates to put in a phantom bid (Newcastle are always good for this - some conspiracy theorists reckon they were used to smoke Man U out over Rooney!)

Probably more realistic is that there's better targets now for DM at Man U. Plus they have fairly strict guidelines over signings (age, fee etc). That's why I'd be surprised if they paid what we'd expect for Baines. They paid a lot for RVP, but he was an exception to their rule. More likely we'd get £5m and a couple of cast offs.

To my knowledge he has never at anytime mentioned leaving, just made a few throw away comments about wanting to play Champions League football. Who doesn't at that level and his age?

Good luck to him, a year of playing week in and week out in that central midfield position and he will be worth way more than £25million. Shame about that damn clause

Sell, sell, sell, he is completely overrated and arrogant, always thought he was too big for us, and plays about six good games a season. I've never been a fan of him; give me Baines and Jags any day over this prima donna.

Get rid for as many sponds as possible but no less than 25M.

He is a costly risky liability better known this last season for what he did with his elbow and head than what he did with his feet and footie-playing head.

One day he can be sublime, the next game he looks .........

We will be better without him and better off. Mcarthy, Macnamu ... Macnammau .... Mcmunana ... him the one on the right who we dumped, and one or two more.

Also, he's a little over-rated for me at any rate

Stuart 880:

No, you are not the only one; that's how I interpreted it. It's a small example of the double-speak you get from players in this situation:

"I am flattered to be linked with ... but I am enjoying my football at the moment and am focussing on ..."

"I have a contract with .... and I am very happy but you never know in football..." It's a way of declaring your availability without actually asking for a move and so forfeiting contractual "loyalty" bonuses.

Simon Hughes

Hope Fellaini stays, world class defensive midfielder in my opinion. However... What if:

Fellaini gone £24M
Heitinga gone £2M?
2012-13 TV money increased by £5M

Take into account their wages plus Neville's and not forgetting Mr Moyes's £60k per week then surely we can bring in 4 or 5 quality well-paid players. Maybe the new manager will give youth a chance too (Barkley, McAleny, Long, Lundstram, Duffy).

According to what I've read (please correct if wrong), then the new TV deal brings in from next season an extra £30M annually! This must be a great chance for our beloved club to finally get back on an even keel and pay off a sizeable chunk of debt while also being able to spend on the pitch.

Despite all the negativity over the past week, I am more than optimistic for next season.

Carl Sanderson

Simon 049:

Agree with almost all of that, except the bit about youth. (I am far from convinced that Barkley et al are ready for the big league.)

I applaud your positivity, particularly your closing sentiments, but it is all predicated on the right managerial appointment. Kenwright, in my view, lacks the imagination to make a good decision in this regard.

Harold Matthews
50 Posted 30/05/2013 at 17:43:22
Yeah Carl. Apart from Ovieda I wouldn't want to try any of the youngsters. Barkley might make it if he learns to do things automatically instead of dawdling for two or three seconds whenever he is in possession. Coleman managed to overcome a similar problem and I hope Barkley tackles the situation with equal determination.

No mate your not the only one.
This is the third time in as many months Fellaini has something along the same lines.
And this is the third time I will say he is probably going as we need the transfer funds and he realises he is the most sellable player. He is telling the fans "before the shite gets leaked to the press (as per usual) insinuating Fellaini is a greedy bastard agitating for a move,I have not asked for a move.If I go it 's because the club want me to."

This could be quite a positive thing? ....

He's either excited about the prospect of who the new manager is ( I'm sure the players are clued up on it or have an inclining ).

He's totally confident in the teams prospects for next season & aware of "some" transfer activity.

He's talking out his arse?

I think last terms team + a couple of additions + players in their rightful positions + a more imaginative tactical manager = Something, fresh, new & exciting. The only thing that will disappoint me is an internal promotion & then the above may not happen. Saying that, I will embrace anyone but Neville.

As we're having a Wigan theme running through this thread, I prefer Malony to McCarthy although his age might count against him, and of course McManaman who looks a prospect.

I see the big man has been gobbing off again talking to other clubs. As much as I like him as a player I think it's time to tell him to piss off once and for all and let a bidding war commence. With the money we could get for him we could probably buy Fer, McCarthy AND macmanaman or Maloney!!

Katie Price wears underwear shocker!

I like the big man and I would like him to stay, I especially don't want him to leave if the money ends up going straight to the bank. But if the only way we can add players to the squad is to sell him then so be it, sacrifices have to made sometimes or in our case every other season.

61 Posted 02/06/2013 at 18:16:52
I would prefer to keep hold of our best players, but if we get a £24m+ offer for Fellaini and he is keen on a move away then we should take it and re-invest. There is Leroy Fer or Etienne Capoue who could fill Fellaini's boots, say £6-7m for either. McCarthy from Wigan to take over from Osman, say £6m, McManaman from Wigan to give us some pace on the right wing, £3-4m. Figueroa could come in on a free to replace Heitinga (on the bench) who we should get around £4m for. That would leave at least £11m to find a decent striker (Negredo?) and we have five new players for the loss of two! I don't necessarily expect any/all of these to come off, but it goes to show how we could actually improve the squad without a loss of quality.

Is the FSW going to take Felli off our hands? Well according to rumours of Caught Offiside he may do.

Napoli are ready to make a move for Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini according to Corriere Dello Sport.
