Yakubu has said he was impressed with Hayden Hackney's debut in the Premier League and said the midfielder looks at ease in the top division.

Hackney produced a strong showing on his first Everton appearance, as the Toffees opened the campaign with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

The 24-year-old was involved in the build-up to Everton's second goal at Hill Dickinson Stadium, and received a good ovation after being substituted on 79 minutes. 

David Moyes opted to use Hackney from the bench at Bournemouth and has said it will take time for the midfielder to adjust to the step up in league.

Speaking exclusively to ToffeeWeb for our Once a Blue series, Yakubu praised the performances of Hackney so far and said the summer signing from Middlesbrough has looked at home in the Premier League.

He backed Hackney to continue improving in a blue shirt, but urged supporters not to put too much 'pressure' on the new arrival.

“Watching him play, when you see the way he's moving, it's like he's been playing [in the Premier League] for many years,” he said.

“The Premier League is the toughest league in the world. He’s got some leaders behind him to help him grow, and help him to do well. Let's enjoy him at the moment. We don't want to put pressure on him, you know.

“Just enjoy the way he's playing now and so far so good. It was his first game in the Premier League and he did so well. Fingers crossed, it continues like this and we love him.”
