Distin: Still early days under Martinez

Blues are still adapting to new regime
Sylvain Distin says that even though Everton are in a good position after passing the quarter mark of the season, the players are still adjusting to the new style of play under Roberto Martinez. "[The manager] is always very positive and honest as well," the Frenchman says.

"To be honest, it was the same with the previous manager. That is the mentality of the club, it has always been very positive.

"The fans have always been very demanding, the players as well. That is just how it is here."

Everton had the chance to move into second place on Sunday but were held to a goalless draw by Tottenham that keeps them in seventh, but Distin isn't fazed and acknowledges that there are plenty of games to go.

"Even if we get results, we are still adapting to the new style of the manager, the new philosophy of playing. We have had good results but nobody feels, 'That's it, we understand everything'. We don't. We are still adapting.

"It takes a bit of time. It is very early, even if we had gone second it wouldn't change anything. It is a very long season but we are still up there. We are enjoying it."

Teammate Leighton Baines is of a similar opinion but admits that the Blues will need to keep winning to stay in touch with the leaders

"Hopefully we can start winning a few more," Baines says.

"It is quite congested in the top six or seven and a win can do a lot for you.

"We have to stay with the pack and keep winning games."

The left back suggests that Everton's form at Goodison Park, where they are unbeaten in 2013, could be key to their chances of cracking the top four.

"I think we have to make it so that other people don't enjoy coming here," he told everton tv.

"If Tottenham and Chelsea are not getting any results from us here then it will make other teams think twice about how they approach the game."
