Season › 2014-15 › News Club to Hold Finn McEwen Appeal Event , 24 March, 0comments | Jump to most recent Everton are backing an appeal for Finn McEwen, a seven-year-old boy from Liverpool, by holding a registration event at Goodison Park. The appeal has received widespread support from across the country including from Everton, the team that Finn is a huge fan of. The Club will be holding an event on Thursday 26 March between 12-7pm to raise awareness and encourage people to register in an attempt to find a match for Finn and others suffering from Blood Cancer. The appeal, which began ten days ago, is to find someone with the same tissue type as Finn who can donate some of their blood stem cells to him. This is the only potential cure for Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS), a bone marrow disorder that he has recently been diagnosed with. Article continues below video content The search for a suitable donor for Finn is particularly urgent as MDS in children can rapidly develop into acute myeloid leukaemia. The fact that so many people, and so quickly, have responded to Finn's appeal, is a huge boost for Finn's family at this difficult time. Finn himself had a special treat this week when he got to meet his Everton heroes, including Romelu Lukaku, Leighton Baines and John Stones. The 26 March event in the Club's 1878 Lounge gives people the opportunity to take a few minutes to register and be tested to see if they are a match. Testing is a simple and non-intrusive process that requires a registrant to swab the inside of their cheeks. Registration will start at midday and will run until 7pm. Speaking about the support that Finn has received, his mum Carole says: “Finn is the most wonderful, fun-loving and caring little boy. This has turned our world upside down and all we want is for him to get better. "We are so grateful to Everton Football Club and their supporters for their help. Not only have they given Finn a wonderful experience in getting to meet his heroes, which he was absolutely thrilled about, they are also helping Finn by registering as potential blood stem cell donors and by encouraging others to register as well. Everton's support has been a ray of light in a dark time.” While Deirdra Taylor from Delete Blood Cancer UK added: “Could you be the one person who could be Finn's match and donate some blood stem cells to save his life? You really could be the one who registers who could match with Finn. If you do match him or another person, the process to donate blood stem cells is most often just like giving blood.
