Everton look to move Elanga deal forward

| 13/01/2023 30comments  |  Jump to last

Reports linking Everton with Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga continue to circulate, with the latter's acquisition of Wout Weghorst expected to be the catalyst for the Blues to get a loan deal of their own over the line.

United were said to be reluctant to allow Elanga to leave Old Trafford this month without another attacker coming in but with Burnley and Besiktas both green-lighting the Weghost's union with his compatriot Erik ten Hag, the young Swede should now be free to make the move to Goodison Park.

According Simon Jones of the Daily Mail, Everton's offer is an initial loan move with the possibility of making it permanent in the summer.

In all Elanga, who was born in Malmö but joined United from Manchester club Hattersley before being picked up as a promising youth in 2014, has played 47 times for the Red Devils, including three appearances in the Champions League where has already bagged his first goal.

The Mail's report claims, however, that the 20-year-old is becoming impatient with a lack of regular playing time under Ten Hag. He has made just five starts in the Premier League this season and been used as a substitute on eight occasions.

At last. A 6 foot plus, ball holding, goal scoring striker.
Erm, no.
If this goes through he'd better show the crossing of Dave Thomas, the desire of Peter Reid and the shooting of Kevin Sheedy or he is going to get some stick from a goal starved crowd.

Good luck, lad.

Martin, the crossing of Dave Thomas ? Let's just be hypothetical for a moment, if he was like DT, who is he crossing to ? Who's our Bob Latchford in this set-up ? I suppose we can dream of yesteryear can't we ?

Gordon
Gray
McNeil and
Townsend, hopefully sooner rather than later

Do we really need another wider player?

if correct It certainly does not inspire confidence in the individual who is pushing through the deal on our behalf.

Christopher we need better wide players, that list is too short on goals and assists to make any difference.

Not that I'm saying Elanga is the answer to those problems though.

See our scouting team have worked overtime on this one.

Does this mean we return Vinegar Joe to Wolves? Another wasted loan to add to,a long list of failures. Who remembers Anfernee Gardner and beanpole Traore?

Completely forgot Townsend even played for us… will be like a new signing!

Trossard is possibly available. I’ve been going on about him since his first season at Brighton. He’s a goal scorer/creator. Just what we need.

See some well-connected local journalists are saying that Everton are interested in bringing in Brazilian CB Montiero from Atletico Madrid, he has 6 months left on his contract.

I think maybe someone needs to tell Frank we have actually got 6 CBs already!!!

Sounds like this rumour is gathering pace.

He doesn't start for Man Utd because he's not good enough to force his way in. He's predominantly a wide player with no great goal return. Not knocking the lad's ability or desire, but he is just not what we need.

Why can't our recruitment team see that?

I don't fully understand it unless they are minded to sell Gordon to the barcodes or Tottenham. Also if they go down this route there has to be a buy clause at a reasonable amount. Is this lad good enough to make a difference? We have no room for more mistakes or ineffective squad players.

I think we need a goalscoring striker as a priority, the best we can get to challenge, play with, or dislodge Calvert-Lewin. We really needed this player before these crucial two games.

It's doubly essential as it would be a monumental gamble expecting Calvert-Lewin to be fit for the rest of the season.

The team is short of an AM too, who gets some goals, Colin … Trossard, yes please, I'd be surprised though if Thelwell could pull that one off. They were after Gibbs-White all summer and bid for him (allegedly) so such a player is on the radar.

We have a worldwide scouting network and the best we can come up with is a lad who can't get in Man Utd's team and, when he did, looks average at best.

Would we be any worse off giving young Mills a few games instead of loaning someone a similar age and developing them for another club?

Kevin, I don't think we do have a worldwide scouting network though. We have consistently bought the unwanted dross from the Sky 6, paying way over the odds… in such a way that it would appear we are an easy sell.

Remember we paid £45M for Sigurdsson, who was a flop at Spurs. There is no obvious approach to who we buy or why and where they will fit in. We haven't bought an actual striker since Lukaku, and we wonder why we struggle.

It's all linked to the same thing – no direction, no leadership, blind ignorance, and an arrogant belief that we're too good, old, grand, whatever, to go down.

We need goals!!!

We should change our name from Everton FC to Manc Rejects FC.

Just what we need, a winger with a one-in-nine goals to games ratio. That'll save us.

Unfortunately, whilst he might well become available, Trossard will not join Everton. He will have his pick of rich 7 clubs in England as well as Champions League clubs across Europe.

If you want players like Trossard, you need to buy them direct at source from minor European clubs. Once they've performed at Premier League level they are out of reach.

Apparently, if you believe the rumours, we are in for Duvan Zapata (Colombian national) who plies his trade at Atalanta.

31 years old, decent scoring record at Napoli, Sampdoria and Atalanta (130+ appearances, 67 goal involvements). Not sure that he will get a ringing endorsement from Mina after Saturday.

Do you know who else plays for Atalanta? Lookman. 9 goals and 2 assists in 17 games

I did not know that, Kieran. I thought he was still on Leicester City's books. He has had an interesting football journey – England-Germany-England-Italy. Good luck to the lad.

Kieran, great point.

It would transform our attack if we re-signed Deulofeu from Udinese and Lookman from Atalanta.

Both are far better players than Gray or Gordon.

Oh good, another Man Utd reject. Does this one have a history of long-lasting injuries or is he another pisshead who drives into things?

Or maybe another lunatic, we haven't signed one of those for a very short while, or maybe one with a bit of a history of assaulting women who can rack up a 10-year sentence a couple of months after he signs.

Possibly he'll just bring the great changing room attitude we've seen for the past 10 years or so at Old Trafford.

Is Jelavic still around? By the looks of it we will only be able to afford retirees and schoolboys, and on loan at that!

What an embarrassment we’ve become. No planning. No money. No hope!
