Just a couple of days ago, David Moyes voiced his displeasure at the lack of goal contributions from his on-loan winger pairing. Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom, on loan from Leeds United and Napoli respectively, had failed to register a goal or an assist this season until Saturday.
“Let’s be fair, you won’t have longevity if you’re not going to get me assists and you’re not going to get me goals. You have to find ways of coming up with those numbers, it’s just the world that we’re in,” he sounded off at the pre-match press conference.
“We can get all the statistics now and we can talk about it. Those two are both attacking players, I think both of them have done well but yeah, I need goals from them, I need assists from them. They both need to improve. They’ve done a really good job in recent weeks but there's parts of the game we want them to improve on.”
The veteran manager’s words seemed to work a trick when both Lindstrom and Harrison combined to score the opening goal for Everton at Molineux Stadium. After collecting the ball from Tarkowski in the final third, Lindstrom lifted his head up to find Harrison in acres of space on the left. He took a touch to make his way into the box and rifled in a shot that took a couple of deflections and beat Jose Sa at his far post.
Harrison finally got on the scoresheet for the first time in 39 appearances while Lindstrom registered his first assist of the season which delighted Moyes.
“We can't keep expecting Beto [to score]. We need Jesper and Jack to come up with the goals and Jack's got one today, which I'm pleased about. He scored a few goals in his time at Leeds United, so he knows how to do it and I'm glad he got one tonight,” Moyes said post-match.
“One's not enough for me, you know, we need [Harrison and Lindstrøm] to come up with more and more assists but I’m pleased they got the goal tonight.”

We need to be able to know we can rely on the flanks and midfielders to score a good amount per season and that just hasn't been the case in recent seasons.

I agree he's running out of time but that's because he doesn't look like he's got the confidence to run like a proper wideman?

Exactly. There was an article on ToffeeWeb pre season explaining he failed at Napoli as they used him as a winger versus a Number 10. And he we are using him as a winger all season.

You let them go and try something else.
Plenty more fish in the sea.

Maybe he hisn't doing enough in training to warrant getting a game playing inside, but he definitely doesn't look like he's doing enough on the wing to warrant Everton, trying to sign him, imo.
I'd still like to see him get a few games playing inside, but if this was going to be the case then I think it might have already happened by now?

I'd say in both positions Alcaraz comes out on top for ability and strength plus he looks, although briefly, like he wants to succeed in the Premier League while it looks like it's too strenuous for Lindstrom.

I'd hope a specialist right winger with goal and assists can be found. Seems an eternity since we had a good one.

I don't think you can fault Lindstrom for his effort and if he is genuinely interested in a longer stay then I think he'd end up being significantly stronger with a tailored pre-season behind him.
I'd still agree it doesn't really make sense if we are never going to use him anywhere else as you could probably find a more natural winger.
Watching the game again and he's certainly doing his bit in terms of being very mobile up and down the right flank. 2 minutes into second half he found excellent space on the right as we broke but Doucoure inexplicably ignored / just didn't see a simple pass to play him in and the move fizzled out on the other side of the pitch.
That must be so frustrating if the manager is calling for more from you in the attacking positions and he threw up his hands justifiably but he immediately shrugged it off and got back to playing his part until he was subbed off 15 minutes later.

As Dave says, the Premier League looks a bit strenuous for him.
I'd sooner spend the £18m on someone like Tom Fellows or another specialist winger.

The teams competing and challenging will have decent backup and depth in the squad. No player is going to play every game with suspensions and injuries, so to a degree, it is a numbers game, but balancing that without sacrificing quality.
Good backup and squad player? I'd say yes, but do we want to spend that sort of money of backup? That's for the club to decide.
Without Google, I have no idea who Tom Fellows is, by the way!!
