Beto has revealed how a word from Everton captain Seamus Coleman helped him change direction with a bit of anger management:

"I used to play with anger, but Seamus told me to stop taking the screenshots. He said 'I used to be like you, you're not going to get anywhere if you're just angry all the time'.

"For me, anger was good, but now I'm playing more at peace with myself. I don't care what some people say now.

"I got myself a mental coach. We speak a lot. I started to become more proud of myself, knowing that I'm capable of doing certain things that other players can't do. I just kept putting in my mind 'my time will come, I'm going to have my chance'.

"I just need to keep doing my thing and don't worry about what everyone else is saying. The past is the past.

"I play more freely, I don't play trying to prove to people. In some games you're not going to play so good, but that's okay. Next game you can do better. I just needed to be at peace with myself."

Beto's backstory has captured the hearts of fans – from working at KFC post-school to being spotted by URD Tires, then making a name for himself at Udinese before landing on Merseyside in the summer of 2023.

Beto reflected: "Maybe the fans like my history. I feel they think I am one of them. I am one guy, a normal guy, who started playing professional football in a different way.

"Some players, when you see their stories, you can see that it was really, really hard. Me, it wasn't so hard. I had a place to sleep, I had food, my mum did everything to get food on the table.

"Working was normal in Portugal when you reach 18 or 19. I didn't want to study anymore. I just wanted to play football, but I wasn't playing at a high level, so I needed to go to work.

"You cannot just stay at home and play football because you don't put money in the house and you don't help to pay the bills."

Beto had probably his finest game for us today at Newcastle. He’s not very elegant, but he’s increasingly effective.

And the impact of Séamus within the Club has never been better highlighted than over the past couple of weeks.

Agreed, Pete. I'd be willing to bet that Seamus has had a word in the ear -- or more -- of everybody in the club.

And Beto's confidence since he was installed as the starter is obvious.

Really like Beto and want him to succeed even more next season.

Since Moyes joined on Jan 15th, only Salah (11), Isak (10)and Mateta (9) have scored more than Beto's 8 goals. Not saying he is world class, but he does know how to score, and his work rate and hold-up play is getting better the more that he trains under Moyes.

Everyone loves an outsider and an underdog and this one is great when bullying centrebacks - lacks a bit of quality compared to top drawer strikers but his energy is infectious and that helps the team when he's at his best.

His style of play is raw and it's obvious he's lacked the coaching young lads benefit from.

But his pace, strength, hold up play and sheer bloody effort/fight make him arguably the best old fashioned target man in the premiership.

Beto is a defenders nightmare. Even if he is playing poorly the opposition centre backs know they have been in a contest.

Does anyone think Delap would do better than Beto since Moyes came back?

Delap is also a throw back old fashioned bruiser centre forward.
Ipswich have probably created more chances for him than what we have for Beto.

£30m in today's market for a young English striker is a bargain but is he any better than Beto?

With DCL more or less gone we do need reinforcement up top. I am not sure if the £30m could be spent better elsewhere like a right back and right mid.

Ending the season on a positive note, looking forward to the new ground, new owners and hopefully a handful of new players.

I think it's quite hard to judge how good Delap is and could become, Rob. He is flavour of the month after 1 good goalscoring season in his entire career. We've seen players like that come and go over the years – without ever managing to replicate a season where everything came together.

Solanke last year. Adebayo last year. Beattie and Johnson in years gone by. Even Calvert-Lewin.

Beto is one of those players who will impress one week and disappoint another. He is a handful and also clumsy. He is not a Champions League quality striker but he might be a good fit for where we are now (giving us time to develop players of greater talent).

I love Beto but he can trap a ball further than I can kick it.
Delap has a lot more skill.

He's the sort of signing that can not only make a statement but can take us further.
