Beto began his goal-scoring exploits in the league by registering Everton’s opening goal in the 3-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium last weekend.
It was the Toffees’ second win in the league after beating Brighton 2-0 at home, and they are fifth in the league with six points heading into the first international break of the season.
Manager David Moyes praised Beto’s humility, work ethic and ability to take constructive criticism in the post-match press conference. When asked about his manager’s words, Beto said, “He's a good man, he's a good person and he's always trying to push me, you know?
“Sometimes he jokes around, ‘Beto, you can't do this, you can't do that.’ But he's always trying to push me and when I do something bad, he says, ‘You need to be tidy, holding the ball – set.’
“I know that I need to improve that, but he knows too, so it's good to have him [on my side].”
There was some speculation about the relationship between the two being frosty after Moyes openly asked for more output from his number 9 during the pre-season. However, those apprehensions can be put to rest.
Beto has seen a career resurgence with Moyes taking over the reins at Everton in January. Since Moyes’ return to the club, only four Premier League players (Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Chris Wood) have scored more goals in the league than the eight Beto scored in 21 appearances under the Scottish manager.
He also got on the scoresheet against Mansfield Town in the Carabao Cup after tapping home Harrison Armstrong’s pass, a move he would go on to repeat against Wolves just a few days later.
“My favourite goals are tap-ins and these kinds of goals,” he said after the game.
“It's so difficult to have these type of goals, but I think this season, if I'm more alive, I need to believe that the ball will arrive – and it will arrive.
“I told Jack (Grealish) at the beginning of the game, I said, ‘Give me one today.’ And five minutes passed, he gave it to me, so it was perfect.
“I'm pleased with the result. A tough, really tough game to play. A really difficult stadium to play. I think the last two times that I came here, we drew last season, the other season we lost, so it's a tough stadium to play. We got three points and I'm really happy.”
Despite enduring a difficult start to the season with a 1-0 loss to Leeds United at Elland Road, Everton have managed to turn things around quickly. They’ve recorded three wins on the trot against Brighton, Mansfield Town and Wolves respectively and confidence is high in the camp.
“It shows what we can do,” added Beto. “I think we can go game by game. We need to just focus on the next game.
“We can't focus three, four games ahead. Game by game, prepare for the game and we go, we play.
“Every game I think it's possible for us to win. You can call me delusional, but I'm like this. And I think I can score every game too, but football is football.
“I think we can show more than what we showed today and we just need to keep going.”

Glad that he recognises where he needs to improve, if he keeps working his arse off and giving his best (and scoring goals) then hell be loved by most blues.

D M criticized you at every opportunity pre season because of your attitude In training. Your game against Leeds was widely classed as the worst performance of an Everton player in recent times. Moyes alluded to your "I've earned my place, now I don't have to try too hard".
Beto, you haven't done near enough to earn your place at Everton. You are one dimensional, lacking in basic skills, easily read, and cost Everton £27 million in having to buy another striker because you aren't good enough. At 27, you won't improve. Your attitude should be, how am I playing in the premier League on these wages? I'm going to give 100% every game, then maybe you would have earned your place, but not yet you haven't.

NOOOOOO!!!! A thousand times, NOOOOOO!! Complete joke if we are relying on Mr backwards to supply goals or assists.

On Beto, he has his many limitations, but by today's standards £27m is nothing for a centre forward, so it's quite impressive that he's scored a few goals. Neither he or Barry look like they can elevate Everton to a better level, but that's what we have for now.

If you were in our midfield Paul, wed all love you for your ‘nark.
Keeping everything crossed that Grealish read your posts and thought, “thats it, Im going to show Paul K that I can still do it!” You could have single handedly turned his career around 😀

He must be doing something right.
He has settled in now - gotten used to the pace of the league (that can take a while) and now has a supply line like never before at Everton.
I think he will do his bit - and has been anyway.

He can be effective though, he's quick and gets into scoring positions. Disingenuously, this has a lot to do with his unorthodox approach. He, we, teammates and defenders have no idea what he's going to do next!
27 Posted 03/09/2025 at 20:43:50
So, if he keeps scoring at a decent rate and at the end of this season has 12 to 15 goals in the league, then who would criticise him? Beside Paul Kossoff of course.
28 Posted 03/09/2025 at 21:04:15
He may not be the long-term answer to get us to the very top but he'll do for now and is an amiable chap to boot.
29 Posted 03/09/2025 at 21:14:54
12 to 15 goals has to be the benchmark for me this season.
30 Posted 03/09/2025 at 22:11:59
Are you applying different standards for Beto.
For me
Good in Air DCL
Possum shot Beto
Speed of Mark Beto
One on One Beto
Hold up play DCL
Touch DCL
Would that we had someone with all and 100m and no PCR to buy

Yes his control of the ball is questionable (as is Barry's) but, now that we hopefully have a midfield capable of furnishing good chances for them or any other lingerer finding themselves in the opposition's box, I'm somewhat confident that this season we may at least end up with a positive goal difference... which will be nice for a change!
32 Posted 04/09/2025 at 00:42:29
With more gifted support players, we have a varied arsenal of offensive options and sharing the load should translate to less pressure on individuals. If the blend is right, we will reap the benefits.

You mention you do it as a bit of fun and a wind up etc, I remember what i perceived to be your bigoted views about Gaza recently (on an Everton forum) and that's what brought you to my attention, unfortunately for the wrong reasons.

He might have his limitations (who hasnt?) but I like his attitude and hope it comes good for him with us.
Scoring the winner in the forthcoming derby would do nicely (preferably 9 minutes into injury time, sending the RS home with faces like slapped arses).
