Season › 2025-26 › News Royston Drenthe suffers a stroke and is rushed to hospital Michael Kenrick 19/10/2025 4comments | Jump to last Royston Drenthe, 38, who was on loan with Everton in 2011-12, has suffered a stroke and was rushed to hospital. A statement from his current team FC De Rebellen, a team of veterans in the Netherlands, said: “Last Friday, Royston Drenthe suffered a stroke. “Drenthe is currently being taken good care of and is in good hands. The team and those involved are hoping for a smooth recovery. “Royston’s family is asking for peace and privacy during this period so they can provide him with the support and space he needs for his recovery.” His season-long loan at Everton was due to expire at the end of June 2012 and was not converted into a permanent contract, despite the obvious skill and flair he could bring to the team. Disclaimer () Kieran Kinsella 1 Posted 19/10/2025 at 16:24:45 Royston Drenthe has suffered a stroke. Rushed to hospital only aged 38. A colleague of mine a few years younger just had one recently. Hope they both make a full recovery. Always a bit of a nutter was Drenthe but he had some real talent. Best wishes to him. Mike Gaynes 2 Posted 19/10/2025 at 16:52:07 Wishing him well. Always enjoyed watching him. Jack Convery 3 Posted 19/10/2025 at 18:37:56 Hoping he makes a full recovery soonest. Be strong Royston. Michael Spear 4 Posted 19/10/2025 at 19:01:46 Probably the only Everton player Ive had my picture taken with! He was Man of the Match in a1-1 draw against Ipswich in December 2011 where my late wife had treated me to a Hospitality ticket for my 65th birthday. Engaging guy and generous with his time. Hope he gets through it all ok.
