Season › 2025-26 › News Everton U21s suffer mini-derby defeat after Finney red card Michael Kenrick 26/10/2025 11comments | Jump to last Liverpool U21s 4 - 1 Everton U21s Everton U21s are playing local rivals today at the Liverpool Academy, kicking off at 1 pm GMT. It is available to watch at Everton Live, but with a sanity warning: turn the volume down because the stream comes straight from Liverpool TV complete with really annoying commentary. Everton gave up a soft early goal in the first 5 minutes after Aled Thoas missed a huge sitter inside the first 40 seconds. But a great finish from Francis Gomez had them back in contention inside 12 minutes. George Finney was dismissed after 27 minutes, coming in hard with his studs up in a reckless challenge for a loose ball. And Liverpool benefited soon after, going two-up before then getting a soft penalty that George Pickford saved brilliantly. But the relief was short-lived, a good header beating George Pickford for Liverpool's third. Paul Tait was shown a red card for daring to voice his opinion on the events of the first 45 minutes. Everton U21s: G Pickford, Finney [R:27'], Van Schoor, Tamen, Campbell, Thomas, Beaumont-Clark [Y:20'] (46' Davis), Gomez, Morgan, Bates, Graham. Subs: Lukjanciks, Welch, Loney, Ebere. Dave Abrahams 3 Posted 26/10/2025 at 13:49:43 I think the sending off ended the game for Everton Liverpool missed a penalty which was save but they have scored since the sending off and it 3-1 with another Red effort kicked off the line by Campbell. Dave Abrahams 4 Posted 26/10/2025 at 14:11:49 According to reports it should be six or seven for Liverpool although before the Red card we could have had another three ourselves. Michael Kenrick 5 Posted 26/10/2025 at 14:15:22 Yeah, it was a pretty lively first half, end-to-end at times, a slew of chances missed... and the Blues now on the back foot. Uh-oh... website server causing problems... How's yer trusty iPad holding up, Dave? Dave Abrahams 6 Posted 26/10/2025 at 14:33:05 Michael (5) Ive got my iPad working in different directions getting plenty of words but not a single picture! Dave Abrahams 7 Posted 26/10/2025 at 14:38:17 The last comment I read is its down to the coaches— one got his job after leading two teams to national youth finals and the other one got his job by default—- wonder which one is coaching Evertons team? Dave Abrahams 8 Posted 26/10/2025 at 15:06:44 I presume the game is over it finished 4-1 to the RedsBut it looks like the game was over as a match after the red card for a stupid foul by the Everton lad. Robert Tressell 9 Posted 26/10/2025 at 15:18:11 Dave # 7, I suspect it has more to do with investment in the playing squad than coaching.Looking at the RS U21s First XI today:Misciur (GK): bought from Hull - Polish youth internationalNallo (CB): bought from West Ham - England youth internationalLucky (CB): England and Spain youth internationalPitt (LB):Ramsey (RB): bought from Aberdeen, full Scotland internationalPilling (CM)Laffey (CM)Gordon (ACM): bought from Derby, England youth internationalKane-Doherty (LW): bought from Derry, Irish youth internationalBradshaw (RW): England and Ireland youth internationalFigueroa (CF): bought from Dallas, USA youth international Nallo and Gordon in particular are really big talents. We've bought in the likes of Tamen, Gomez and Graham but at a much lower cost. And Tamen has no international recognition. Ryan Holroyd 10 Posted 26/10/2025 at 15:26:31 Yep Robert. We have this weird thing as a fanbase of always blaming the manager at any level rather than looking at the chronic lack of underinvestment over the past few years. I also understand Kane-Doherty to be a big prospect too. We're just not an attractive proposition at any level at the moment. David Bromwell 11 Posted 26/10/2025 at 15:30:36 Did we not win the corresponding match last season? Michael Kenrick 12 Posted 26/10/2025 at 15:37:53 Yes, we did, David, exactly 1 year ago today! Let's read that report instead: Everton U21s seal mini-derby win with Benjamin braceUh-oh... looks like I never flushed that one out. Sorry, folks.
