Grimsby Town 5 - 3 Everton U21s

With no possibility of progressing in the Vertu EFL Trophy this season, Everton U21s were humbled by conceding 5 goals at Grimsby Town on Tuesday night.

The Young Blues took the lead through Jacob Beaumont-Clark but were pegged back before the break when they went in 2-1 down to the home side in this final Group C game of this season's Vertu EFL Trophy competition.

By the hour mark, they were 4-1 down, but William Tamen pulled one back. Grimsby notched another for a humiliating 5-2 scoreline in the final minutes but George Morgan made it marginally less embarrassing in added time.

Everton U21s: Tyrer, Tamen, Thomas (45' Boakye), Campbell, Finney, Gomez (56' J Patterson), Akarakiri (73' Morgan), Van Schoor, Beaumont-Clark (33' Loney), Bates, Ebere  (73' Welch).

Subs not Used: G Pickford, Davis.

We’ve just pulled a goal back, Tamen was the scorer — all is not lost.

Moyes has been on the blower to Paul Tait — the gist of his conversation was “Get some bleedin’ subs on now!”

I think because it was a dead rubber game, we had no chance of going any further in the competition, a different style was used by Tait.

Well, there's a change, with three at the back and overlapping full-backs...

No one making a particularly strong case to be elevated to the first team bench…

Interesting Harry Tyrer playing in goal. Having spent at least two productive years out on loan, I had hoped that Harry would have been given the Number 2 spot behind Jordan.

Is this another example of our good young players failing to progress into the 1st team squad?
