West Brom U21s 0 - 3 Everton U21s

Everton U21s chalked up an excellent 3-0  victory against West Bromwich Albion in Premier League 2 at Damson Park, Solihull on Friday evening.

They got off to a great start inside 10 minutes when Jack Patterson gave them the lead. Josh van Schoor carried the ball down the left flank and crossed it into the box where George Morgan challenged for it. The clearance rolled towards Patterson and he cracked a first-time thunderbolt of a drive into the top corner of the net.

On the half-hour, Everton went two goals up. Patterson thundered into a challenge and when the ball fell to Braiden Graham he kept his composure to drill a low shot under the keeper.

The third Blues goal came in first-half added time. Davis did well to keep the ball in play and then skipped superbly past a couple of defensive challenges before setting it up on a plate for Braiden Graham, who couldn’t miss from no more than a yard out.

Everton kept it solid in the second half to return home with all 3 points.

Everton U21s: G Pickford, Davis, Van Schoor, Welch (79' Thomas [Y:85']), Tamen [Y:87'], Campbell, Bates (74' Akarakiri), J Patterson [Y:36'] (89' Boakye), Morgan (79' Ebere), Gomez, Graham [Y:19'].

Good to get a decent away win!

Let's hope the luck extends to tomorrow -- well done to all involved tonight.

The centre-forward we play in this team must be worth a run ahead of Beto and Barry surely

No sure why, but Braiden Graham wasn't selected for the two heavy defeats to Bradford and Grimsby.

That's a shame as it's a better indicator of the players' standard than U21s -- which isn't a good standard at all.

4 in 9 this season for Graham. That's decent. There might be some interest in him for a loan in January.

Martin Sherif got 9 in 16 at this level last season and now has 2 in 5 for Rotherham (third tier) so far this season.

Hasn't Braiden Graham been out because of injury?

Obviously a win of any sort is always good especially when a team has been struggling.

Two questions for the Under-21 experts please. I see Harry Tyler played at Grimsby; I always thought he had first team potential, after a number of successful loans... what's gone wrong?

And how old is Reece Welch? He seems to have been around for ages. Thank you in anticipation.

Robert (3),

I wonder what Moyes thinks of Braiden Graham?

I think he trains with the first-team squad a lot and his natural ability at scoring might be impressive.

Dave # 6,

If Braiden Graham trains with the first team squad sometimes, then presumably Moyes rates him. Would Moyes (and anyone else for that matter) see him scoring goals in the Premier League just now though, given how hard Barry and Beto are finding it?

(They have experience of scoring goals across Europe and with physiques that give them at least some chance when playing as an isolated forward.)

In terms of how other Premier League clubs handle things though, the approach is like this:

- invest heavily in a variety of forwards who have already performed at a much higher standard than Graham (we are light on numbers -- especially of versatile wingers and forwards)

- give players like Graham an opportunity (like Sherif is getting now... Simms and Cannon previously) to deliver on loan. If Graham could get 5 to 10 goals in a half season with, say, Wigan or Blackpool that would really kick start his career.

No Premier League clubs now develop youth by keeping them in the first team squad and giving them 5 or 10 minutes at the end of games. That stopped years ago.

A few players graduate to Premier League first teams straight from the U18s because they are exceptional -- but most don't.

Robert (7) Yes Robert I could absolutely see Braiden score some of those missed chances by the two strikers and some other players including Grealish’s miss just after Beto missed his chance v Spurs (?) the other week— Grealish’s chance was easier than Beto’s.

Get him on the bench for starters— that’s Graham not Grealish!

Completely agree Dave, 8, frustrated from Crosby.
