The Echo claims that David Moyes wants Tyler Dibling to play a central role in Everton’s efforts to cope with the loss of key players to the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in December and January.

But the club’s most expensive signing of the summer has been largely overlooked by the manager in the early months of the season, with only limited minutes since the move from Southampton that made him part of the overhaul led by Moyes.

Dibling has started just one Premier League game for the club – the home game against Crystal Palace that saw him substituted at the break with Everton losing 1-0. The claim that he isn’t ready for Premier League football has been surprising given that, unlike fellow young summer signings Thierno Barry and Adam Aznou, he arrived with almost a full season of Premier League experience under his belt.

Moyes insists the newcomers haven’t been needed because he has been content with the performances his selected players have been putting in.  “Those boys are young, up-and-coming talents. We’ve not necessarily needed Adam [Aznou] because our left-back’s been doing okay.

“We’ve not necessarily needed Tyler at the moment because our wide players are doing okay. I see them every day in training. They’ve got good bits to go – they’re not the finished article, anyway. I’m the one who gets a chance to see them most days and probably have an idea of what they’re capable of. So we need them to step up. We want them as promising players.”

This fails to explain, however, why he hasn’t given these young fringe players more of an opportunity for gaining valuable match time by making fuller use of the provision that allows the use of five substitutes during each game. Moyes has only done this once so far this season.

But Moyes holds out hope for Dibling that he will be improved to the point where he can be given more of an opportunity in the coming months:

“We’re hopefully going to try and get Tyler ready. Nobody’s really talking about how we’re going to lose Ili mid-December and there’ll be opportunities that arise for players [then] and we’ll see what comes around at that time.”

On the matter of Tyler Dibling, I don't understand how Moyes expects him in to slot in effortlessly for Ndiaye if he has not had useful minutes before.

Give him some minutes in the next few games, and not some useless 2 minutes + added time to run down the clock.

“ Nobody’s really talking about losing illi in the African Cup” Really quite a few are dreading it along with losing Gana Gueye, I’m still waiting for Grealish to move his gears and Dewsbury Hall as good as he was on Saturday is he going to stay like that or revert to the way he’s played most of the season, are you going to leave Barry as the main striker or let him play the Hokie Cokie with Beto “ In out In out shake it all about, are you going to use more substitutes with more time.

The Fulham result and performance were very good and took the pressure off you for a bit but that performance has got to be consistent and let’s be honest we won’t be playing Fulham, at home, every week.

Perhaps a real insight into how Moyes thinks and perhaps the risk aversion that is inherent in his thinking.

Prime example would be Ndiaye coming off for McNeil against Sunderland. That would perhaps contradict what he is saying slightly. Playing young players more, particularly one with a full season's Premier League experience, would I think put us in a better place.

I wasn't at the game, Dave, and as much as it was a great result (especially because the performance sounded like it was much better) I do have my reservations about Fulham.

I might be wrong but I'd harbour a guess that the Nottingham Forest Chairman would have liked to appoint Silva. I think that, if Dyche, wants to stay in his new job (I'm sure he does), then he's going to have to prove to people that he's more than a defensive minded fire-fighter.

This article is about Dibling, I know, but I don't think I've ever seen a player improve without playing competitive football on a regular basis.

Moyes is more likely to play McNeil out of position on the right wing than give Dibling any game time.

The only logic I can see in this situation is that this was not a Moyes signing and he is making a point to the club hierarchy.

That of course is not fair to the lad who at £40M chose Everton because he expected regular first-team football. Instead of other options I am sure he had.

I am still searching for why Moyes would have brought McNeil, who has been poor ever since his injury last season, on as sub instead of Dibling recently.

I think Moyes has explained why Tyler is not playing, he doesn't think he's good enough at this time.

We would all be complaining and asking for Moyes's head if Tyler's inclusion caused us to lose games.

I tried to edit an earlier post, Michael, but couldn't, it didn't work for me.

It's classic old-school Moyes though. He's gifted a star player, one whose skills are widely held in high regard, and he basically messes him up from Day 1, doesn't play him straight away... just treats him like shit.

But he is the Moyesiah and his judgement must not be questioned -- or it just makes the situation worse!!!

If the manager brings on McNeil ahead of Dibling, then I don't see a future for him at Everton.

Ray (9),

I think it is a bit early to decide that Dibling has no future just because McNeil has been subbed on a few times (odd though those substitutions were).

Give the kid a break. Moyes is never one to break in new players super quick and I hope over time Dibling will get and take his chance.

I think Dibling is really struggling with the weight of expectation.

I was watching him in the moments before kick-off against Palace and, while the rest of the lads were high-fiving and geeing each other up, he was stood still with a completely blank face. I thought at the time that "He's either stone cold emotionally or he's scared shitless!" — and after his performance in that first half... I think it's the latter.

I think McNeil will likely start when Ndiaye goes to the Afcon and it's up to Dibling and Alcaraz to show that they're up to the task of replacing him. Unless McNeil rediscovers his early Dyche form then that right wing position must be very much up for grabs.

Dibling may be a talent but he hasn't shown enough in his appearances and may be in training. Players like Dibling and even Barry seem to lack that aggression.

The disappointing part is McNeil is totally out of form. Against Sunderland, Moyes wasn't wrong to give McNeil a chance. Until last season he has been good performer and the only ounce of creativity that this bunch had till last season.

However, this season so far, he has been shite.

Not only is Tyler down the list for a start, Dwight is now pretty much out of it all together.

Tyler needs game time now, not two weeks before Afcon.
Dwight will not get a look this season unless we lose Grealish during Afcon, and he wont be up to speed in any case, sadly we might do better to sell him on.

I would like an insight to how we set up without Gana during Afcon too, and how Rohl fits in.

If Garner is restored to the mid we will need a dedicated right-back incoming January, is that option on the table or are we purely focused on the Number 9? After the Fulham showing some belief has been restored in developing what we have, with Barry showing the first signs of adjusting and contributing, and squad players proving useful too.

So from a Tyler story to a transfer question: How much can we spend in January, and who are the targets?
