Thierno Barry can take “great confidence” from his performance against Fulham, believes manager David Moyes.
Barry had his best game in an Everton shirt against the Cottagers and even though he’s yet to get off the mark in the goal-scoring department, he was instrumental in the Blues’ 2-0 victory over Fulham at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
On his fourth start in a royal blue shirt after signing from Villarreal this summer, Barry received a standing ovation from the crowd after what was a turbulent week following his ludicrous miss against Sunderland.
Barry kept the opposition centre-backs on their toes and was excellent at combining with his teammates in the final third. He also had the ball in the back of the net only to see the linesman’s flag as he wheeled away to celebrate.
“I thought Thierno had his best game for us,” Moyes told evertontv. “We need him to keep stepping up all the time, we need him to up his ante all the time.
“There's a great history of number nines at Everton Football Club and it's not an easy thing to follow when you go back through time.”
Pleased with the reception Barry received from the Evertonian support, Moyes added: “Let's hope maybe we can give him a little bit of respite. He'll get more confidence from his performance, he'll get great confidence from the support he had from the crowd.
“It was a great, great way to see him because everybody knows we want him to do well. And he performed well, he really did.”
