Ivan Toney is going nowhere in January, insists Al-Ahli sporting director Rui Pedro Baz. Toney had been recently linked with a potential return to the Premier League with several clubs interested.

Included among those sides are Everton, who have been plagued by a lack of firepower from their strikers. Thierno Barry and Beto have one goal between them so far this season and their lack of impact in the final third has largely dominated the discussion around this new-look Toffees side under David Moyes.

While Beto hit a career high in the second half of last season following Moyes’ return and Barry arrived this summer with plenty of excitement following his 11 goals with Villarreal last season, both have found it difficult to make an impact while leading the line.

Moyes has continued to show confidence in both of them, on the pitch as well as off it, but it’s hard to escape the feeling that it might be wearing thin. The links surrounding Toney and the Blues suggest that Everton might be willing to dip their toes in the water when it comes to bringing in a new striker during the winter transfer window.

However, a probable move for Toney looks difficult at this stage.

"Ivan Toney is a top player, a top striker. The rumours around his possible exit in January are not based on reality. It’s just not true. We’re counting on him, it makes zero sense to address this subject in November,” sporting director Rui Pedro Baz told Goal.

The 29-year-old arrived in Saudi Arabia 18 months ago and has had a great run of form since leaving Brentford. He was second in the goal-scoring charts behind Cristiano Ronaldo with 23 goals last season.

While Al-Ahli, led by Toney, finished fifth in the league last season, they won the AFC Champions League and the Saudi Super Cup. Toney has started this season on a strong note as well, scoring five goals from the opening seven games.
