Former Everton physio John Clinkard has passed away. Clinkard served as the physio of the Everton team during the mid-1980s.
He died, aged 71, in the early hours of Friday after a brave battle with cancer.
Clinkard was an immensely popular figure in the dressing room as the team won two league titles, an FA Cup and the European Cup Winners’ Cup. Affectionately called ‘Magnum’, because of his resemblance to American actor Tom Selleck who played the title role of the detective in the show ‘Magnum P.I’, Clinkard also worked for Oxford United and Wimbledon.
“Everyone at Everton Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former physiotherapist, John Clinkard,” wrote the club on their website.
Blues legend Peter Reid said: “I am devastated to hear of Clinks' passing. What a man! All the players loved him and trusted him completely when he was with us. He was a brilliant character and I’ll always remember him with great affection. My thoughts are with Steph and all his family.”
