Because it was scored by a Liverpool player I might sound biased, but the saying draw a line in it, or draw a line anywhere definitely comes to mind sometimes, when you look at Salah’s goal.

They are going to be trialing Wenger’s plan with regards offside from next season I’ve been reading but it won’t stop those arguments, especially when they change the picture or change the line, imo

How sad has the modern game gone now?

The cup games on a Saturday used to be the most eagerly anticipated fixtures on the calendar; not now... not no more, telly calls the shots now.

No 3 o'clock kick offs is a disgrace, it'll get to the point soon where there won't be any Saturday afternoon games, league or cup at all, this is what Sky and TNT have done and the clubs have sold their souls.

Even our cup game against Sunderland was a 12 o'clock kick-off, I suppose not too bad for us, but a drag for Sunderland fans travelling to see their team.

I can't remember our last Saturday 3 o'clock kick-off at home, was it Villa, not sure, all our games seem to be midweek now.

Wenger's plan alters nothing. We'll just be looking for a millimetre of daylight rather than human torso...

TBF though I don't see how you can easily legislate for offside.

Completely agree Andy.

I'm in total agreement with you on both of your points Brendan, because how people can run the line and get so many decisions correct genuinely amazes me.

Another thing about offside is that it is absolutely the one area of the game that shouldn't be subjective but unfortunately it still is.

Wrexham are making this a great contest.

I love the way they are going about their business, c’mon, Wrexham.

Wrexham are making this a great contest. I love the way they are going about their business.

They are defending very well, and when they turn it over they transition smartly into attack.

Watching Wrexham v Chelsea, and with an eye on Liam Delap, I think he was very poor today.

If I was scouting him for Everton I'd give him a wide berth. He's failed to perform at Chelsea.

Please don't give Chelsea their wasted £30M back.

Agree on Delap, utter bang average footballer.

Makes you wonder what the "experts" see when they buy these footballers.

Edward Rogers

Ian, agreed. But have a look at the guy they brought on Marc Guiu...he's truly awful!

Classic top drawer CF play by Delap for Chelsea's first goal.
Paul Griffiths

Great stuff. That must be his first touch.

Mickey Thomas is losing it.

Paul Griffiths

Crap, he looks offside.

Welcome to VAR, Wrexham!

What happened to the 5 cm tolerance the Redshite had applied earlier in the season? Utter bollocks officialdom again.

Wrexham can walk tall after scaring the crap out of Chelsea. Chelsea first goal a freak rebound off their own keeper and second came from a slip. by a Wrexham player.

Whether that was a sending off was not the issue for me. The thing that disgusted me was seeing Cucurella almost plead with referee for the red card to be shown.

Earlier I watched the Scotland v France rugby game and watched a guy the size of a house talk to the ref with deference and shock... even listen to ref and then walk away without throwing his rattle and dummy away.

I admit it was rugby union I played but the petulant histrionics from today's "top" football. players disgusts me. Chelsea and others could learn from the approach of Wrexham.

Sadly the games' administrators and pundits seem to love this soap opera.

I often think I would love to see many of these drama queens play a game of rugby. There would be a bank of lawyers ready to take instruction when their little cheating cry baby walk off after 30 seconds.

That's better. Feel better for that rant!

Tony 14: did you hear the great Wrexham fans singing "Eff-off VAR"?

Would be great if PL supporters adopted same shout at each and every PL game. Imagine Sky trying to pretend they can't hear it!

Paul Griffiths

Cucurella is a snide nasty piece of work.

Watching him motionless on the ground and then all of a sudden bouncing up on his feet was pathetic. Horrible twat. I want to pull his hair.

RS, City, Arse and CFC all through to last 8.

Didn't they have a fixed draw. earlier in the comp, so they didn't play each other in that round? Hmm…

Wrexham were brilliant. As they sang = Eff Off VAR!

Dale Self

Not at all Ged, hell, I feel better after reading that.

And fix Arsenal's set piece WWF moves while you are on it.

Nice interplay by Saints striker with a winger to get it to the box. But another wasted chance from the left.

That and the earlier breakaway should have them up 0-2.

Edward Rogers

Why do Premier League managers field weakened teams at this stage of the competition?

Do they think it's "cool" or beneath them to be playing so-called inferior teams? Boils my piss.

It's probably their only chance of silverware, or doesn't winning things count any more?

John Collins

8th -10th is the acceptable target Edward.

Has been for decades.

Fuck the cups

They are basically prioritising the money. Cup wins aren't particularly lucrative in comparison to Premier League placings.

I'd imagine managers are told to prioritise the league.

I've read similar from plenty of people on this website over the years, Brendan. "Forget about the cups, because we need to concentrate on staying in the Premier League" has depressingly been written on these pages way too many times.

I'm just glad that Howard Kendall was always of the opinion that winning breeds confidence; otherwise, I don't think the mid-eighties would have been so special for us Evertonians.

Brendan McLaughlin
33 Posted 08/03/2026 at 19:21:04
Tony,

Incredibly, back then, winning the FA Cup was almost on a par with winning the league. But the cup competitions have dwindled massively in importance since then.

I haven't watched an FA Cup Final since Roberto's Wigan Athletic beat Man City all those years ago. In large part because that final was personally a difficult watch but also because the FA Cup has lost a lot of appeal.

I get the enjoyment for the travelling fans but, if it's an FA Cup weekend, as it is... I rarely watch.

John Collins
34 Posted 08/03/2026 at 19:36:39
How do you rate our chances of winning a league title any time soon, Brendan? Me, too.

So we just spew the cups? What's the point of us being in existence?

Tony Abrahams
35 Posted 08/03/2026 at 19:37:36
I love the FA Cup, Brendan, it always used to give me great pride, and seeing Everton beating Watford was one of the best days I'd ever had in my life. But when we beat QPR 12 months later to become champions, it was definitely on another level mate.

I only really watch Everton in that famous old competition nowadays. When Arsene Wenger said that the FA Cup was going to slowly lose its appeal many years ago, I was absolutely fuming with the cheeky French twat.

Pardon my French, Arsene, I should have known better, because after all you're definitely one of the most sensible people I've ever come across when I listen to people talking about the beautiful game. It doesn't stop me wanting to win the cup next year though.

I jumped for joy that day we beat Watford. So much so my infant son in Breige's arms burst into tears. He's in his 40's now.

Yes of course I watch the cups when we're involved and I'd give Breige's left arm to win one.

Where did I post we shouldn't compete for the cups?

Dave Abrahams
38 Posted 08/03/2026 at 20:22:46
Brendan (36) Brendan I think you’d have a bit of a job getting Breige’s left arm off her— I’d have a bet you’d come unstuck!
Tony Abrahams
39 Posted 08/03/2026 at 20:25:25
You can’t give something that doesn’t belong to you and expect Everton, to be lucky Brendan, so hopefully you are going to revaluate and bring us some luck next year.

Imagine winning the league though John, just imagine being the first team to win the championship in three different centuries.

Brendan McLaughlin
40 Posted 08/03/2026 at 20:29:44
No Dave #38

She only blesses herself with her right...so she wouldn't miss the left.

If we ever make it back over to Liverpool... mention it casually

Dave Abrahams
41 Posted 08/03/2026 at 21:02:05
Brendan (40) Talks cheap Brendan I think her left arm would be enough to fend you off while the right one would provide the KO and Breige being Breige would go to confession at the first opportunity and the priest would tell if it was you she hit it was only a venial sin not worth even one ‘ Hail Mary ‘ for her penance!
John Collins
42 Posted 08/03/2026 at 21:06:33
Apologies Brendan, you didn't.

I took your post as the cups being dwindling massively in importance as disinterest.

John Collins

We should imagine it as a club Tony, aim for the moon you may get the stars mate.

I would approach Wenger to be our director of football, oversee everything from the youth teams up. I said it a few years ago but he may not have come to Goodison.Hemay now.

The most intelligent man I have heard talking football.

I'm the Everton supporter.

Breige doesn't even like football.

Cut me some slack...

Edward @30,

I hope you held off on that bet! Unbelievable moaning from my RS family members, you'd think they'd never had any luck that wasn't bad (credit: Albert King).

Decent first half in the West Ham match, I'm still pissed off we went out at the first hurdle.
