Beto was the star of the show as Everton beat Chelsea 3-0 to ensure lift-off at Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Guinea-Bissau striker scored twice and set up Iliman Ndiaye’s third in a majestic display.

It was his best performance of the season and Beto became the first Blues player to score a brace at their new waterfront venue. The win helped the Toffees get to 46 points - three points short of Liverpool in fifth - and maintain their eighth position in the standings.

The Everton number 9, who had one foot out of the door during the winter transfer window, has called playing for the club “God’s gift”.

“The players matched the energy the fans gave us, so I’m really happy,” Beto told evertontv. “It was like the last game at Goodison.

“For me, it’s special (to play for the Club). It’s a God gift. I asked for little things and He gave me this, He gave me this opportunity to be here and be the number nine at the Club.

“The season [wasn’t] going so well and [the fans] keep saying to me: ‘Keep going, Beto! Keep working!’ Today, I was rewarded with two goals, one assist and a good performance.

“You could see the energy (from the fans) and I’m just blessed to be here.”

Keep working hard and keep scoring Beto, do God’s work for him and get Everton, into the champions league!

The better question is do you keep & get a new contract. Or cash in, and look for an upgrade.

What would you do?

Ian,

I wouldn't trust whoever recommended buying Beto for £30 mil (?) to buy the upgrade.

Thats the first thing I would do.

Sell Beto and Barry. Both simply not good enough for the premier League.

Yeet another Barry/Beto thread.

PG. 3 weeks without a game. Not going to be much to write about.

Charlie Adam scouted Barry and recommended we sign him. He has spoken about it many times on TalkSport…

I would keep Beto for next season deffo, even as 2nd choice. I don't imagine he's on mega bucks and he appreciated being here!

Also, I had the luck of being pitch side for the warm-up during one of our preseason games this season — and let me tell you: he's a unit.

Which club did Charley scout for before he was with us, Sean?

And which club does he scout for now?

I think we would be mad to sell Beto simply because of what he is.

He is a physical specimen who is a lot faster than you think, unsettles defenders and puts a shift in, he is a tryer and always wanting to improve (the words of the Manager).

Some will say he is still raw, a bit clumsy, players of his size always have that possibility.

He has shown he can score goals and is ok with the physicality of the Premiership whereas Barry appears not to be, I hope but wonder whether he ever will be.

Lets not forget that until the Chelsea result the team were not providing an abundance of chances for a striker.

When Beto misses a shed load of chances then we should move him on but thats not the case.

The fans obviously love him as he is a tryer, and he loves them.

I think when he score the winner against "The Dark Side" the question of would you sell will be forgotten.

Wasn't that a Thelwell deal driven mostly by finances, zero up front?

I think those terms are best viewed as a sunk cost. What he provides now should be the full consideration.

His presence is growing and the way team-mates came to congratulate him was beautiful. Beto may offer some intangibles which are difficult to appreciate unless behind the scenes.

I would definitely keep him. It allows us to sit much better at the table, negotiating for a more finished striker. Not sure he will plateau around this level of performance, there is a sense of hunger about him.

He has started in 10 games and scored 6.

So, a back-up for a new striker?

If that is for me, then, yes. He would not be my first choice but could be a crucial piece of the overall puzzle.

If he continues to score at that rate, I would find time for him. He himself knows he isn't a classic striker. His temperament is perfect for giving the first choice some heavy competition and giving us a different style of attack if the other one struggles.

I think Beto gets too much criticism.

The lad's not a £100M striker; nobody could expect him to be -- he cost £30M. There's no way he should be sold, he's well worth a place in the squad.

Barry I would sell, he's probably unsettled anyway but I don't see many attributes he brings to a team.
