Hull City have made a ‘formal offer’ for Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam.

The newly-promoted side have been linked with Iroegbunam since sealing their return to the Premier League, with Hull in search of a defensive midfielder to boost their squad. 

Hull had pursued Burnley midfielder Florentino Luís last month, but the deal fell through when the player opted for a move to Ipswich Town instead.

Iroegbunam is now in their sights with The Bobble reporting that a formal bid has been submitted by The Tigers. 

The 23-year-old made 17 league starts for Everton last season, but has seen midfield competition increased by the arrivals of Hayden Hackney and Christian Norgaard. With Harrison Armstrong also impressing in pre-season, Everton could sanction Iroegbunam’s sale should a suitable offer arrive. 

Hull’s opening bid is unspecified, though it’s understood that Everton value the player at between £15m and £20m. Iroegbunam signed for Everton from Aston Villa for a fee of around £9m in 2024.

Earlier this week, Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic told BBC Radio Humberside that the club were making progress in a deal for Iroegbunam.

"I think there is progress in this player," he said.

"I like how he is playing and he is very experienced. I think we need this profile for a midfielder and I hope we will sign him.

"But, we will see. It could be a loan or permanent transfer. There is a lot of exchanging. He is in the last year of his contract which is an advantage for us."

I know he has his faults but I honestly believe it would be a mistake to sell this lad. Even though we are so well stocked in midfield.

Unfortunately, as it appears, we may need to make a sale before we bring anyone else in.

As long as we improve on him with a decent signing, fair enough. Tavernier is on the radar and this could be a sell to fun that transfer.

Would be sad to see him go. I think in a few years he will be a cracking player. But we are well stocked with CM so letting him go would be best.

I don't think we should do this unless its a decent fee and/or genuinely unlocks another signing.

Tim has not necessarily set the world alight and he's had a few bad games, but he's had some good games too, and he's a decent defensive body in the midfield where we have also lost Gueye, where Garner is currently coming back from injury AND having to deputise at right back.

The flipside is we signed Hackney and Norgaard, so perhaps there is sufficient cover in DM, and perhaps Tim going means more minutes for more attacking mids like Armstrong, Alcaraz, etc"

Obviously the same cannot be said at full back. We need a decent right back STILL and even with the cash constraints I do find it mystefying it's taken us so long to fill that one gaping hole when other teams are signing players in that position without issue.

I believe I read he is in the last year of his contract? If that is true unless we sign him up to a new contract he can walk for nothing at the end of the season. He is not going to get much game time this season unless things change drastically and therefore if we could get £20 mil with a sell on clause it could be worth it. I think there is a good player in there and I would prefer to keep but potentially £20 mil might help us buy a decent RB which we are in need of desperately. A good left back as well. With those 2 signings I believe we could have a pretty good season.

There is a player in there with more game time.
A £20m fee would be decent business however for an area we are well stocked allowing us to invest elsewhere, who knows maybe even in a full back… god forbid.

I think Moyes likes him and picked him before the likes of Armstrong previously, but I don’t think he’s going to get as many opportunities going forward, I think Armstrong has overtaken him and with the signings of Hackney and Norgard he is probably better off moving on, decent player at times but inconsistent, lovely backtrack and tackle one minute, sloppy pass the next.
I think we should definitely add a sell on clause into the deal as he will improve with more games at Hull.

I think that most transfers involving young players include a sell on clause. With this, I can see Tim moving as he won't get much game time this year with our options in the middle being so strong.
Of the ones we have, Norgaard, Rohl, Hackney, Garner, Armstrong, KDH would all be ahead of him in the pecking order. If he can curb his tendency to go into tackles like a headless chicken I believe he will have a good career in the Premier League. But he won't be getting that unless he plays every week.

Watch this kid develop into a top player.
All he needs is a good run of games.

I have always liked Tim, and like a few others, I think with further development there's a player in there.
If he is sold I hope Everton put some decent sell-on clauses in.
