Trip to Macclesfield

Comments (25)

To avoid any further any FA Cup banana skins, I think it's best to play a full strength and as mostly home-based players we have available on Saturday. I would go for Howard, Hibbert, Jagielka, Lescott, Baines, Gosling (he deserves a start), Arteta, Neville, Osman, Cahill, and Anichebe. Fellaini should be a sub as he is so prone to yellows and in a physical game like this is in danger of a red.

Hopefully Yobo, Saha, Fellaini & Pienaar can add some strength to what has been a very weakened bench recently. The blues for the FA Cup ? Come on!

Cutting to the chase, a good cup run gives both the club a fans a boost; the club gets extra revenue and the fans get to dream of a final, something we?ve not had since 95. You should always play your strongest team to win a game and we simply don?t have the Arsenal type resource of a youth squad capable of winning a cup on their own.

I agree, we need to start our cup runs with a strong squad and hopefully progress to the Final.

Realistically, I know we?ve had some early exits, but if we need full strength to beat them then we?re not in with much of a shout of winning the entire Cup.

Having said that, obviously we can?t pull an Arsenal. However, I could certainly see starts for Rodwell, Gosling, (Baxter?) and maybe another. Cahill could use a rest. Maybe Jags too.

I know we all want to win something but you have to be sensible and realize players need rest. This is a good draw and a good chance to rest some of the guys who will be needed for our upcoming brutal stretch in the league.

We have a paper-thin squad ? do we really need to risk someone like Cahill, on a likely dodgy pitch in bad conditions, to beat Macclesfield?

FA cup skins apart, we should have easily enough to beat this lot with the kids playing. The FA Cup probably represents our best chance of a return to European football next year, so take it seriously, yes, but keep the 3 points v Hull at the back of the mind and play a mix of normal starting XI and youth. Rodwell, Gosling, Lukas (not spelling his surname) et al should be deployed. IMO.

ps: Anyone know any of the pre match pubs in the town?

I live in Macclesfield and I?m well excited about seeing the Mighty Everton at Macc Town. Hopefully we?ll tonk them, that?ll make up for the last time I was at Goodison!!

As for Pubs in the town, I am not sure which ones the Rozzer?s will be closing. But there?s two opposite the train station, The Old Millstone and The Queen?s Hotel, that are ok.

COYB!!!!!

Yeh right, Joeyenkoo! Just like we lost to Shrewsbury when they were bottom of League 2 and Oldham last year. And if anyone thinks Moyes will play his strongest team for an FA Cup game you are in dreamland.

Someone recently posted that Fellaini was just one booking away from missing the trip across to the shite, can anyone confirm this? If true, I?d be happy for him to sit this one out

Big difference though Mick is that this time last year we were still in the Carling and Uefa Cups. I think Moyes will go with a fairly strong team this time with perhaps the odd player or two sitting it out.

Dave, it's true about Fellaini, it's on the OS. Two things are certain in any Everton game: 1. Fellaini will get booked 2. We will have a dead cert penalty not given.

FA skins apart I did say Mick. That said, looking at the odds, Maccies are 7/1 to do us, maybe worth a little flutter to cover the train tickets?? And back Rooney?s bruv to score too and you could look at 45-1 on the double.

Seriously, as all away lower league cup ties are, this will be tricky, but there shouldn?t be any probs playing the likes of Rodwell, Gosling, Lukas, VDM et al, they all have some PL experience. Big chance for VdM too.

It is that time of year again where our hopes of ending our now 14-year trophy drought rest on the FA Cup.

I fancy us this year... it could be famous last words but, if Moyes goes for it and we get that luck of the draw, we could be organising a homecoming in May.

The key is to make it to the 5th round as this is where the Premier sides still in Europe field a weakened team because the European competitions start again in the midweek following the Cup matches.

The Sky 4 will all be focusing on the league and the Champions League, Aston Villa will be focusing on a top 4 finish and the Uefa Cup, Spurs will be trying to win the Carling Cup and Man City will be going for the Uefa Cup and a top 6 finish.

If it all goes to plan, we should find ourselves in the quarter-finals with only a handful of top flight teams remaining in the competition. It really can be that easy ?just ask any Portsmouth fan.

Here?s hoping...

Yes Fellaini is one booking away from 2-match ban.

If he does get booked in the next couple of games. I believe the RS game is followed by FA Cup Round 4, closely followed by Arsenal and Man U. So he will miss some important games.

Imagine you will see ?an injury wracked? Everton team take the field with Moyes getting his excuses in advance of another dismal Cup display. I have no confidence in this man ever bringing us any kind of trophy. Sorry.
