A Kevin Brock moment?

Comments (20)

Kevin Brock?s dodgy back-pass is considered one of the pivotal moments in Everton?s history. Rightly or wrongly, the greatest period in the club?s history is commonly believed to have started with this one moment... Will Phil Neville?s tackle on Cristiano Ronaldo at home against Man Utd this season be remembered similarly?

Before that moment, we had two wins in 11 games, dumping us out of Europe and the Carling Cup and leaving us 15th. Since Pip almost skinned Ronaldo?s leg, we?ve only lost twice in 13 games, winning eight along the way.

Don?t get me wrong ? I?m not suggesting we?re about to go on to win two Championships and two Cups, but footballers are a funny lot and it seems moments like this, and the confidence they inject into players, really matter.

Equally, it could just be divine intervention to reward us for kicking that cheating sod.

It was, most definitely, a defining moment in the season so far and I, for one, would dearly love to believe......

Sadly, the financial gap between the Corrupt Sky Whores and the rest of us dictates that major honors in England can only go to one of four clubs. It?s fuckered, a truly shameful situation that the powers that be seem wholly incapable of addressing.

But that tackle WAS a beautiful thing, wasn?t it?

It’s the only game I missed this season. Has anybody a link to ’that’ tackle as I can’t find it on youtube? Cheers.

Great tackle ? very hard but very fair. International Sky comments "person" Davie Provan spluttered on about how reckless it was but I?ve watched it about 374 times and it?s just the most perfect tackle this season. The histrionics from Ronaldo as well as Giggs and Ferdinand's protests were despicable.

Yes, I believe it has changed our season, apart from a couple of blips (Villa and Wigan). How ironic that the revolutionary 4-5-1 has been superceded by the 4-6-0 and seems to be working ok so far.

I do believe we?ll beat the shite at Anfield this season ? maybe twice ? we just seem so fucking hard to break down at the moment, the downside being there is little penetration up front. On a side note I know it sounds mad but I reckon AVDM could have a part to play this season.
COME ON YOU BLUE BOYS!!!!!

AVDM to play a part? Yes, that does sound mad.

King David of Rhino?s goal that ushered us into the Moyes era (depends if you?re a half full or half empty..)

Rooney?s wonderstrike against the Arse. It added some loose change to our coffers I suppose.

I’d heard that if AVDM took all his empty tinnies and bottles to a recycling company we’d have enough money to pay off our debt,

Maybe the Villa fans are thinking that Jags backpass is to them what Brock's was to us many years ago!! Not that I am knocking Jags coz without doubt he is the most improved player in our team that is improving. With ragards to the comment that we are hard to break down, well I don?t agree with that since Macclesfield should have been 2 up early on last week. Let's just keep some kind of sense here because we are approaching the kind of fixture list that makes or breaks players and fans alike.....

As a possibly naive 17-year-old who lives in Australia, I don?t know who or what Kevin Brock is or has done for us. Can somebody explain or show me a link of what happened? Cheers.

Kevin Brock holds a special place in Everton’s supporters’ folklore. In a League Cup tie between Oxford United and Everton at Manor Ground in January 1984, Brock’s back pass was snatched by Adrian Heath, who managed to score an equalizer, which at the time was seen as the upturn moment in Everton’s fortunes.

I would love to see the Neville tackle. Anyone have a link? I cannot find one. It is not even on Everton TV.

Richard: You’re probably right. Until that moment our season had been apalling. Much down to DM’s behaviour in my view.

Pip’s tackle did 2 things. Firstly it showed his commitment to us. Whatever any detractor says, I have zero doubt that this boy is an honorary Evertonian. Everything he does & says is good. Excellent captain.

Secondly his tackle, which Paul Maguire rightly points out was simply MANLY and PERFECT, did galvanise the team on the day and seemed to act as a captain’s rallying cry. After that moment we had the game.

Not too sure about Paul’s assertions regarding the 2 games against the jammy bastards, but I also feel that AVDM could/should appear this season. He obviously wants to and lest we forget, this was a guy deemed good enough to play up front, even on his own, for Inter Milan & Ajax. I want the league game off Los Kopitos. The cup game I’m not too bothered, but if we do win it & get a good draw then AVDM should get a chance.

Viva Pip!

Try this, the sound is a bit out of sync. The tackle is around six and a half minutes in. It was brilliant, I remember it just lifted the crowd, completely turned the game. Captain's performance from our Pip.

I was looking at the League Tables for the 1980s the other day ? amazing that Oxford were in the top flight then and now aren?t even in the League!

Michael, remember the shithole of a ground that was. Still the away end aptly named Cuckoo Lane terrace, used to make me laugh whenever we went there. Oxford were not a bad outfit themselves in the 80s... how times have changed.

Clarifying my earlier comment regarding AVDM - playing a 4-6-0 as we appear to be doing is an ideal situation to stick a wide man in. I guess a target man would be preferred also but we have the players to hold the ball up for the midfielders running on.

Phil Neville has changed in my estimations ? this guy is a top bloke ? he doesnt try and con the ref like some off his former colleagues, he?s as honest as they come, strong in the tackle and while a bit limited in the finer aspects of the game, I for one am happy to see him give his all for the Blues. The Shite should be shiting themselves ? we may not get a 5th round tie and three points but I reckon one of them is attainable.

Just watched Tommy Rice?s BBC link ? great quality. Three things stand out:-

2 min 20 s: Ronaldo's incredible dive ? like some dance manouvre from Mama Mia. (Seen the Missus do that one).
5 min 27 s: What the hell is Bobby Charlton wearing on his head?
6 min 40 odd - Simon Brotherston stating that Pip?s tackle is a bad one (while earlier saying it was fair). Maybe he got a carpeting in the earpiece form BBC bigwigs not wanting to upset the big boys.

@ Paul Maguire ? Could not agree more with you about our captain. For the majority of last season this guy looked about as bad as a Premier League player could: often unable to control the ball, nervous when he did, physically addicted to playing the five-yard square ball and frequently guilty of mistimed tackles. To say nothing of his love for the wayward Hail Mary?s he liked to launch in the general direction of AJ.

I was willing to believe, however, that he possessed certain valuable leadership skills that just about justified his constant inclusion in the squad.

I think I was right about the latter and I could not be happier that he has proven me wrong on the former. He really began to look comfortable at fullback this season, but, miraculously, in the past couple of games he has also looked the business in midfield. Who woulda thunk it?

It seems possible (however once unlikely) that any success in our upcoming away-and-away with the RS may just depend on Neville?s contributions.
As long as he can refrain from scything the orb into his own net, or getting sent off for a studs up challenge that?s two seconds late.

Great link from Tommy.

I might be a bit biased but it wasn’t even a foul never mind a booking.

It's reported that Ronaldo crashed his Ferrari this morning, the Ferrari rolled seven times before coming to a stop. It was laid on the tarmac clutching it's front wheel, screaming in agony. When police arrived the Ferrari complained of a nudge from behind. After the police left the scene, the Ferrari got up and drove off uninjured. The police are looking for a blue car, reg no PH1L NEV. Ha ha, top notch Les!

No doubt when he got banged up he?d be onto his agent for a transfer to a Madrid jail.
