True Dedication

Comments (16)

As a regular and avid reader of toffeeweb, I know of all the varying opinions (Marsh to Dodd) which make this site such a compelling read. What I have written in for is to tell you, well, to ask you to show your appreciation for one hell of a true blue.

It was my Grandad's 90th birthday on New Year's Day, which makes it 81 years of dedicated match going (every home, and most away matches till he was about 50). He attended when Dixie Dean was banging them in, Young was mesmorising, Westy was stopping everything in it's tracks......you get the pic. But mostly he's still going, every game rain or shine, usually with myself in tow.

Anyway before the match with Hull starts, my grandad will be walking onto Goodison pitch to be presented with something by Sharpy off the club to thank him for all his continued support. All I am asking is that if you are in your seats at this time please, please please show him what he already knows... one Evertonian is worth 20 kopites, and clap the best little Evertonian I know.

Brilliant.

Treasure him while you?ve got him.

My dad also saw Dixie including THE game against Arsenal and I?m afraid I got a bit impatient with the constant references.

Fair play to him, I hope you both have an enjoyable afternoon! He may get the best birthday present in 90 yrs if we beat the shite twice in a week!

Absolutely brilliant, Mike. How about doing us a favour? Would you ask your Grandad these questions:

Who?s the best blue he?s seen?
Who?s been the best manager?
What?s the best goal he?s seen?
What?s his fondest memory?
This one?s for personal reasons: what did he think of Billy Bingham?

I wish I could be there on Saturday to see a real Evertonian.

I hope he has a great day as he certainly deserves it and three points in the bag.

Mike, you can tell your grandad the Lower Gwladys will appreciate his time and efforts he has and is giving to the blues. NIL SATIS NISI OPTIMUM!

With the benefit of 90 years of wisdom, can your Grandad tell us whether Dodd-Marsh are, in fact, the same person?

Mike, what a wonderful story. I?m almost envious and I hope he has a great day at Goodison. I?ll try to get him a mention on Talksport before the game starts, he deserves it. Best wishes to him.

I will certainly give him a round of applause.

The only worry I have is that it seems when we have a guest of honour, we usually draw. Let's hope your Grandad will break this jinx.

Thanks for all the positive comments,

In answer to some of the questions, I had a Q and A session with him earlier (to my shame of not knowing some of the answers)....... so to Andy and others.....

His Fav players = Hickson, Young, Mckenzie and of course Dean
Manager = Kendall
Goal = Sharpy's in 84 against the shite
Match = 66 Cup final against Sheff wed (after not conceding a goal in any round to go two behind and win 3-2) much better than draws the red shite could manage!!!!

Loved Billy Bingham as a player and a manager (he bought McKenzie and Latchford, he said wistfully..)

So there you have it........Thanks again for taking an interest in a great man and better Evertonian........

ps: He hated Gordon Lee and thinks we will stuff the shite out of the cup at Anfield!!

Mike - you don?t need to ask mate.
Just the threat of your grandad bringing his boots will be enough to send Vic limping away towards the treatment table!!!!!!
