The build-up continues to the Derby games and as the excitement mounts we dare to dream of victorious days of years gone by. Some of the younger generation will not have tasted the sweetness of victory on our old stomping ground. All of us let our hearts and imaginations rule our heads but, the closer it gets to kick-off, the more the nerves become unbearable.
Just seven times in my lifetime have we beaten the old enemy on their turf and I have witnessed just 2. But someone, sometime has to join that small band of players who have scored for the blues in winning sides at Anfield. Who will be the lucky player(s) to join this elite list:
- Kevin Campbell
- Colin Harvey
- Andrei Kanchelskis
- Gary Lineker
- Johnny Morrissey
- Fred Pickering
- Kevin Ratcliffe
- Joe Royle
- Graeme Sharp
- Derek Temple
- Alan Whittle

Sharpie had missed an open goal after intercepting a Barnes back pass and rounding Dropalot. We thought that was it, but then about 7 minutes from time, Shagger Stevens’ comes up with a daisy cutter that crept in.
Happy days. 1988 if memory serves me right - Harvey’s 2nd season as manager.
I seem to remember Andy King scoring a cracker but it may have been at GP. Andy always seemed to do well against them.
That game was at Goodison. You’ll remember the classic moment where the commentator is trying to interview Andy King, and the somewhat over-officious copper shoves them onto the track, "Off the pitch...!"
Stevie La? was a guest of her majesty and Caragher was sent off in the opening minute. No half measures when I dream, eh lads.
Tommy Lawton (scored 2 in a 3:0 win the in the 1938/39 Championship winning season)
Dixie Dean (scored 2 in a 3:0 win in 1929 followed by a hat-trick in a 3:1 win two years later)
Joe Clennell (scored 2 in our record 5:0 win in October 1914 - on the way to another championship before a World War)
Bobby Parker (scored the other 3 in the same match as Joe Clennell as well as both goals in a 2:1 win the season before)
well remembered.
That was classic and if it had been today would have been all over you tube.
I remember the joke which went round our playground for days afterwards:
EFC kid: "Scuse me mate, do you know where Kings Drive is?"
LFC kid: "No mate, I don?t"
EFC kid: "It?s in the back of the Liverpool net, that?s where it is!!!"
Oh what joy.......
I remember him scoring again the following season in a 2-2 draw at Anfield. Brian Kidd got the other. We went 1-0 down, thanks to Mick Lyons’ glorious lob over George Wood from the edge of the box.
