Jenas?

Comments (35)

Is it just me or was anyone else really interested in the possibility of us signing Jenas. I read via the link on the rumour mill that we had in fact held talks over a loan move with a view to a permenant deal.

I think it would've been a fantastic deal for us given the price of £3.5 million being touted. Harry Redknapp is quoted as saying that they weren't looking to do the deal because we weren't making any players available to swap. Who would he possibly be talking about or interested in?

I'm only writing this as I know a lot of people read this site who know a lot more about the facts of these stories and was hoping for any more information. I would love to see a quality young (@28) english international join us and I think it would be a great boost for the club given that Capello clearly rates him. It is the only runour of the hundreds in this transfer window that I have actually been interested in and was wondering if it is, like most, a non-starter?

The Daily Mail are reporting that the player in question was Leighton Baines but it's been a long time since I've been able to believe any transfer rumour reported in that paper so I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

The comments I read today had Redknapp not interested in a loan deal but wanting a player swap. It's interesting to think Baines might have been considered just a few games ago ? it looks much less likely now.

And by the way, would any of you want to be in the situation where we could offer a club £100m and the player £500k a week (I?ve just been back to check that ? I still don?t believe it), and he still says he not interested. Funny old game?

Funny that cos on Sky earlier Redknapp was quoted as saying Jenas will definately NOT be leaving Spurs in January.

The Kaka thing is appalling, I?m disgusted by the whole stinking pile of shit that is football and Man City in particular ? they should be ashamed of themselves, seriously. Money like that should be used in other ways, no club should be allowed to do it and FIFA should get a fucking grip and put caps on transfer fees and player wages. I know the court of European law dictates regarding free trade etc but it's just wrong in so many ways.

I would be really disappointed if the link with Jenas was true. Whenever I have watched him for Newcastle or Spurs, he is a bone-idle prima dona, who thinks he is some mega-star. There is not a single player in our current squad that Jenas is an improvement on. Dan Gosling is a much better prospect for us. It is noteable that, whilst Jenas was manning Spurs' midfield, they were really lightweight and had no fight.

James, I have to take you up on the points you make. If EFC were in City?s position (with all the money floating around), would you still ask Fifa to sort ou the situation? No, you wouldn?t. Neither would I.

There?s no way a cap on wages can be introduced now as it?s gone on too long. What about the salaries of the existing players? Could you imagine telling Ronaldo he?s gonna have a massive wages cut when his contract expires? Not a chance mate.

I think you?re just pissed off it's Man City that have that luxury and not us. Wait 'til the season ends and watch City fuck up (they always do).

It?s very easy for us to slag off the Sky 4 and now Shitty for spending fortunes on transfers and wages of all and sundry. We have all recently and still are hoping and praying that BK sells out to any available billionaire. I wonder if it were ever to happen if the same people who are disgusted now would be of the same opinion? Somehow I doubt it, of course it would be different if it were us.

Matt ? absolutely not, I?d still feel very strongly about it; without wanting to bleat too much about things outside of football, that kind of money should be used for better things in my opinion and it stinks to high heaven that its allowed to go on in a world where up to 30,000 children die every day from poverty ? go look at the UNICEF site and see if I?m wrong then.

It's just wrong mate.

Well, here we are again... halfway through the window and nothing not even a whisper of a striker? I think Boyd from Rangers could be the answer ? cheap and by all accounts a decent player worth takin a risk on??

Sorry but I can't belive that we have no money at all? If we haven't got enough for one signing then God help us ? What signal does this send out to our so-called top players? It must be stretching their patience as well as ours.

Terry, you?re right, didn?t our accounts show we were £70 quid in profit? We should invest it wisely.

Isn?t Jenas really really good friends with Cashley Cole? No thanks to that one. We need a striker not another lightweight midfielder.

Jenas is a decent player but with Arteta, Fellaini, Cahill, Neville, Castillo, Osman and Rodwell all capable of playing in the centre of the park surely we need a striker and at least one winger.

The problem as always is we have no money. We are 3 or 4 high quality players short of being able to challenge the top 4 but without the money...

If we had been a dozen points worse off , would we be as patient having no striker(s) I think not. Would BK be happy watching us struggle for survival..No. Would he find the money from somewhere..yes!
Who is to say that the Yak or Vaughany will regain fitness in time for the start of next season? The club should act now ...not dither... and watch City inflate the prices and wages of all players.

James (et al), although I agree that 30k kids die every year through poverty, WTF has that got to do with Man City/Kaka situation? Football has made a rod for its own back paying the wages they do; do you seriously think that ANY player gives a flying fuck about the fans/kids etc? No, if you do think that, you?re on cloud 9 my friend, the simple fact is they are only arsed about how much money goes into their bank every month.

Bill Gates gave away shed loads of his wealth to charity. Did he really give two shits who got it? It's a shitty world that we live in and we?ve all got to realise that the Dubai dudes that have bought City are that rich by only being arsed about their own bank balances.
If Kaka (and his mates) are worth what City are willing to pay then, ho hum, let em do it. I?m telling you, City will fuck up.

Maybe so, but on a typical weekend, the ENTIRE gates of the English rugby premier league wouldn?t fill Old Trafford. I quite enjoy rugby, league and union, but on a global scale ? and football is THE global game ? it?s barely registers as an also-ran.

I always mocked Jenas, especially the mobile phone thing!! but yeah, I wanted him when I heard that (poor choice of words there). He keeps the ball well, has a good engine and gets up and down (the pitch!) well.

re: City. Dont even worry. any other club they?d be something to worry about, mark my words; they?ll be relegrated and/or bankrupt within 3 or 4 years... only Man City.. think of the stupidest scenarios possible and that's what happends to them as all this proves.

The brutal truth is that if the PL/FA introduce a salary cap then all the ?talent? will bugger off to Spain and Italy, the PL will become devalued as a commodity, there will be less money coming in and all the clubs will suffer from the backlash. We?re stuck with it until it all goes horribly wrong for somebody big and the rest change their ways to save themselves.

Jenas would be a good price, but not a good signing. He is inconsistent, mardy, and I do not believe he would improve our squad.

Kaka is a good player, but he ain't going to change them on his own. Robinho has found this out. How long can Man City go on telling these stars that they are signing for Manchester and con them in to thinking they are signing for Utd?

£100M for any player is ridiculous. it was only 15 years ago (ish) that Blackburn spent £5M on Chris Sutton and everyone thought that was ridiculous.

The world has gone mad... What Credit crunch?

The way the story?s been reported seems to indicate that Moyes? interest in Jenas was genuine, so I?m interested in what this would mean for the rest of the team. It suggests to me that he?s currently on the lookout for a central / defensive midfielder to support Fellaini in the middle. I can?t see him dropping Phil Neville altogether, but it?s not hard to see Hibbert being dropped in his favour in the right back position. With Baines on the other side of the pitch, that would give us a decent supply of crosses from both flanks. Like a lot of you guys, I?m not convinced that Jenas is the answer, but at least Moyes seems to be asking the right question.

In the summer, Everton were strongly linked with Rennes' Stephane M'bia who could be a great Vieira-like holding midfielder with a tank of an engine. He since has come out and said he is glad he waited. Well, he must be (today) really impressed that talks with Newcastle are at an advanced stage. I couldn't think of anything better than to play for a failing team with a manager who everyone knows is not going to be there next August and who headbutts opposing managers.

Crazy! What is it with all these players? It can't be money because surely we would have valued him highly as he plays in an important position. So you would have thought we would have paid him top money. Grrrrrr, I just want us to buy someone... but he has to be good!

Shame about M?Bia as he?s done really well for little Rennes who are third in France this season. However, he openly admitted in the Summer it was all about the money to support his family in Africa.... Come to think of it, that would be one way to keep James Marshall and Joe McMahon happy as by signing him you would be guaranteeing a lot of the money was sent to the Third World!!!

Only joking, Boys. You are right, it?s a ridiculous amount of money, in the current climate especially. However, fear not: City will make a hash of it. They are like a poor Chav winning the lottery and rushing out to buy a Rolls Royce, a mock Tudor Mansion, enormous diamond ring, and a fur coat. They get their priorities wrong and end up looking cheap and silly. New Money has no class ? remember that!

If they were sensible they?d be buying up people like Arteta for £20m, but luckily they are not that clever... Thank God!

A year ago I tipped this player Bryce Moon to make it a huge impact in Greek football. If my memory serves me well, I was criticized for suggesting that DM should go for this player seeing that he were one of the best attacking defenders in the 2008 AFCON in Ghana. I?ve read a few articles on a few sites that teams from all over Europe are interesting in this player. West Ham looks set to table an official offer for the star, why aren?t we looking going for this player? Last year in an interview with a South African newspaper Moon said he?d like to play in England and if he could have his way he?d like to play for Pienaar?s team. Guys, would this player be able to command a place in our current team if signed?
