A change in the wind?

Comments (16)

Has anyone else noticed the change in fellow Evertonians' attitude to the next installment of the Merseyside Derby? When we drew that horrible lot, I'll admit I cursed our luck, dreading being turned over by that shower three times in one season.

However, after last night's match, the only feeling I have towards Sunday is feelings of excitment, I'm genuinely looking forward to a Derby match at Anfield. Now, we've taken points off Liverpool in the past, but there was a big difference between the draw last night and the 0-0 a few seasons ago. Look at the stats for last night's match and it only confirms what we all saw, that a weakened Everton side matched them all over the pitch. I include Anichebe in that, and am a little angry at what I would deem to be a premeditated attack on his performance.

So we go to Anfield again on Sunday, and I for one will have an extra spring in my step. No longer hoping we can get something out of the game but believing we will. Talking to other blues and looking at the players coming off the pitch last night, I believe the feeling is universal. Come Sunday, there will be nothing to fear but fear itself.

Premeditated? Don't be silly. Anichebe is extremely limited; he had some good touches but spoiled it all by he diving blatantly for a penalty rather than taking a shot on goal. That is not the Everton Way.

I learned in 1977 never to anticipate derbies!
We won 2-2 at Maine Road and Duncan Mackenzie gave Tommy Smith the run around! I couldnt wait for the 2nd leg.
We got hammered!
Sundays game is completely un-related to monday night but I hope we can do it!
Re Anichebe, I agree with Michael - he should have stayed on his feet and slotted or squared!

I agree with Michael, in that position he should have shot, and to be fair to the ref Anichebe barged one RS player into orbit then fell down when he was touched by another.

Lets be fair to Vic, if that had have been Ronaldo, Lampard, Gerrard would play have been waved on? The PL?s untouchables, in fact Hibbo?s ?tackle? on Gerrard last season was less of penalty shout and was treated far harsher. Rafa?s biggest cock up on Monday, leaving Clattenberg on the bench :)

Mark...the ’77 replay. I think we all thought that our chance had gone after the disgraceful, biased peformance of that liar
The players were absolutely demoralised and were mere shadows in the replay

I agree with Phil, I was at that game and came away thinking we had won, I was celebrating so much I didn’t see the "goal" had been disallowed. I think everybody connected with EFC was devestated including the players and that manifested itself in the replay. This time is different, I sense that fans and players alike realise there is nothing to fear at Anfield. This team needs to start winning trophies and a win on Sunday would be a massive boost to everybody associated with EFC. This is payback time, all those fortunate enough to be there have a responsibility to back the boys in Blue ( including Anichebe ) for the whole 90 mins. I have no doubt that Gerrard & Co will be stunned by our support, they are already quite fearful believe me, once their poncified players here the roar on Sunday all their nightmares will start to unfold.

I agree Ian, some of the criticism of Vic has been way over the top. OK he’s never going to be Alan Shearer and I think Vaughen is the better prospect by far, but Vic gave it his best and has got lots of good reviews elsewhere for his performance on Sunday. He still learning and very short on full 90min Premiership experience and yes I know that’s a chicken and egg thing in that he has to perform to get the games, but give the lad a chance. He’ll learn from the penalty incident, although I’d bet if he’s stayed on his feet, shot and missed, there’d be a few on here saying he was naiive not to have gone down. Sorry but right now he’s all we’ve got , so support the lad and don’t let’s get into another "local boy gets hammered" situation.

I’d disagree with Mark and say that this game does have a lot to do with Monday’s. They missed their chance of regaining top spot because of us, and they would probably want to get back to the PL to ’set things right’.
Only they can’t, they’ve got the hassle of playing us again, this time with us enjoying more confidence, more fans and a trophey we want.
An FA Cup match is just an unwelcome appointment that they have to show up for.
I think an VDM swap on 60 will frow the game our way...

I agree with Howard - Vic had a great game. He was a focal point for our attacks and won loads in the air and held the ball up too

Makes you wonder if people on this site have ever played the game with some of the rubbish spoken on here...

I wonder if the people suggesting Anichebe dived have ever played the game, at any level, he ran across the pitch to close the two Liverpool players down, he must have been already knackered at this stage, he then outbattles two of them and runs 45 yards with the ball. this was a lungbursting effort, I was literally yards away and whether you saw it as a fouls or a shoulder charge, I can assure you the impact was considerable, any player in the world would have gone down under such circumstances.

Please stop this anti Vic bollocks

Michael

This "Everton way" you speak about, its a good job no one bothered to run it by Anders Linpar isnt it ? otherwise we’d still be in the championship

The guy didn’t try to stay on his feet and was waiting for the shove or tackle. Embarrassing.

I think he went down easy, Nick, but he showed a lot of potential on Monday, and I think some people would have slagged him off regardless unless he had scored a hatrick.

However, it wasnt my intention to start off the Anichebe debate, more to do with how Monday’s game has possibly given us an edge on Sunday that we might not of had beforehand, and I agree with what you said on that subject.

I was hoping for Howard Webb to book Anichebe after that pathetic dive. Not only was it a poor attempt to ’cheat,’ it was also completely obvious what he was about to do.

It was losing position there that Liverpool gained possession and scored. I hope that teaches him a lessonl

The Everton way! Give me a break for gods sake. If Webb would have awarded a penalty and we would have scored it, would anybody be complaining? How many times has Gerrard conned refs into giving away penalties. I am sorry but the only way to fight fire is with fire sometimes. If we win Sunday’s game by a disputed penalty then I for one wont give a damn. Stop being so bloody noble Michael.

I recieved the below email from a Hammers fan over in New Zealand. I just thought its enjoyable to see other supporters give us a bit of recognition and saying how good we are. Its something I'm certainly not used to anyway so its a nice insight into how other fans view us now:

alright traillo?
watched your game yesterday. fuck you're good, like i said when you were here, i couldnt' understand what had happened - you prob got more injuries now but you're right in the groove. pinear (?) was magnificent, jagielka, hibbert, arteta; the whole lot. they're what a team epitomises. you're lucky that moyes isn't a fashionable kind of manager, otherwise someone with some money woulda snapped him up. man u could do a lot worse and probably will when fergie hangs his t cups up.

i'm happy enough with our lot, bellamy wanting to go to tottnam? arsehole. glad we took a stand, hopefully he'll rot on the city bench once the bigger names come in. hopefully zola'll give sears a bit of a go - i'm unaware of him having a game since the munted dwarf took over. anyways, hope you're keeping well. thought i saw you at the derby - were you there? laters....

I totally agree with you Michael. Anichebe has developed this... Diving, and that's what it is, and it has to stop. Everybody has taken a dive at sometime, usually as a last resort, but on Monday night, on a couple of occasion Big Vic could have shot and he might even had scored. Its is something he has added to his game this season, and I for one would like to see it stop.
